Sky News report that Israel is expected to approve Benjamin Netanyahu's plan for a takeover of Gaza when the security cabinet meets later today.

According to the Times of Israel, the full cabinet is due to convene at 6pm local time, 4pm in the UK.

Israeli media are reporting that the plan could potentially span over five months, and it is likely to be aimed at destroying Hamas and pressuring it to free remaining hostages.

While some ministers have been critical of the plan, reports suggest Netanyahu is likely to secure a majority of support.

Oh has there been reports of Hamas killing GHF staff members?

While Hamas have seemingly killed Palestinians working with the GHF, I do think it important to point out that Israel's insistence on using the GHF (and not allowing impartial aid agencies in) is most likely a war crime and, at bare minimum, is far, far outside of norms.

I don't mean to suggest support for Hamas but let's not pretend that Israel is trying to distribute aid.

Yes, Israel has long been in a near impossible situation to manage, and no I dont think that its pursuing its current course out of the same type of pure malevolence or evil ideologies that we have seen during the worst moments in history - but it is engaged in a campaign of probable war crimes against civilians, and it will most likely only escalate from here.

If normality ever returns to the US, I hope we see Trump and his administration charged with war crimes too, for their complicity.

The only plan that can work is something like the good friday agreement.

Everyone uncinditionally pardoned on both sides, as unpalatable as it might be, and then people might, just might be able to move forward instead of looking back.

The current plan can only work is you successfully genocide / ethnically cleanse the palestinians out of existence, other wise there will always be someone's son or daughter with an axe to grind that sustains Hamas, or forms the next terrorist group.

So you think Hamas should continue to govern then?

The IRA were bad enough but nothing like on the level of Hamas. I don’t think they used their own people as human sacrifices did they?

Israel abandon air, sea and land security measures so Hamas don’t need to paraglide in, they can fly into buildings, sail in ships full of arms and drive explosive laden vans in?

You think Palestinians themselves should continue to be used as human sacrifices and be indoctrinated to believe that killing Jews is worth more than their own lives?

Ok then.

i don’t think you could just back out now and call it quits. It sounds like Gaza is lawless now with various militant groups and desperate population on brink of mass starvation.

The Saudi/French led conference produced the New York declaration that many pro Israel posters were waxing lyrical about the other day. In short it involved a temporary international security military under the umbrella of the PA and was a phased plan to a Palestinian state.

It sounded like a positive plan that ultimately could secure the safety of everyone in the region.

Honesty I think Hamas would just start setting off rockets while plotting the Oct 7 sequel.

Yahya Sinwar was previously released from an Israeli prison during the last hostage-for-prisoners exchange (and they'd cured his brain cancer for him) and liok how thst turned out.

What a lot if people in the West don't seem to understand is that Hamas etc aren't doing this because they want liberation for Palestine in it's current or 1967 borders. They want all of it. From the river to the sea.

Actually some Westerners agree with them, come to think of it, hence you get white American woman unironicaly spouting off about "settler colonialists", talking about a country with a majority Middle Eastern descended population.

I just listened this morning and the pain was evident. They can’t get them back, they haven’t so far. He’s close to death and others too and feel out of options.

Plus who is distributing the aid that is sitting there? Of course the lead military are concerned, it’s their lives going in. It won’t be safe.

But this situation is also intolerable, the aid is sitting there in the hot sun and Hamas will do anything to win, including using Palestinians.

Edited

They’ve been using ‘the blood of Palestinians to ignite the resistance’ since this whole ‘Palestinian cause’ started.

Why people don’t think Hamas is capable of deliberately starving their own civilians for propaganda, as well as the hostages, is beyond me.

No government, or leader of a group of people, would deliberately carry out an act of war like they did on Oct 7th, knowing they had no hope of ever defeating the super military of the country they started it with, while also deliberately putting civilians in harms way, unless they wanted as many of them to die as possible. The immense pressure on Israel for permanent ceasefire, so they can do it it again, hasn’t worked so what was their logical next step with what they could control. I mean, hello!

Why the hell Egypt wasn’t forced to open its borders for evacuations of children and uninvolved civilians at the start of the war, when this should have been foreseen as a tactic, I don’t know.

Civilians should have been isolated from Hamas from the start. We’re told most don’t support them.

I would like to know why the international community, Starmer et al, have never mentioned that.

Have they?

As a plan it seems very problematic. Not just for the people of Gaza but also for Israel and the Israeli hostages. What's the alternative though?

Hamas are just refusing to negotiate in good faith or to surrender.

I've heard it suggested that the purpose of the plan might be to motivate Hamas to negotiate from more of a solutions driven perspective - who knows?

Whether this plan gets adopted or an alternative one, I'm not sure a good outcome exists. It would have been better if Hamas had just released all the hostages and surrendered its weapons during the first ceasefire.

Oh yes i had forgotten that they had killed staff early on. The sites of food distribution seem “secure” now for the staff, the only deaths being those of civilians seeking aid of course.

@ConscientiousObserver i think sadly that all the men were treated like soldiers, so extraordinarily badly. Also I recall those being help by other armed groups being in the worst conditions.

It’s horrible. The man in the video looks like he needs medical treatment now to survive.

They have probably been deliberately starving and refeeding them all through this. Hopefully they’ll feed him more to keep him alive a bit longer now they’ve achieved the taunt to Israel they wanted to achieve. He is still valuable to the sick bastards.

Remember how starved the three hostages released in early February were? That 6 released later didn’t look like that.

They must starve some to taunt Israel with the holocaust narrative and feed some to make it look like they took good care of them.

I don’t think there are any boundaries for Hamas.

Yes I think that was a miscalculation on Hamas's part because he looks close to death anyway so delaying things indefinitely won't keep him alive.

If the hostages were worth a lot to Hamas they should have looked after them a bit better.

Oh has there been reports of Hamas killing GHF staff members?

Yes
Hamas’s threats against GHF staff are not a recent development. The terror organization and its affiliates have killed GHF staff, published threatening rhetoric against the aid group and Palestinians who associate with it, and embedded operatives at a GHF distribution site.

On June 11, 10 members of the GHF’s local workforce, on their way to a distribution site, were murdered by Hamas, according to the GHF.
Days before the murders, Hamas and the Arrow Unit published statements deriding the new aid mechanism. They warned Palestinians that they would become a target of the “resistance” if they associated themselves with entities linked to Israel and the United States.

“We affirm that the resistance security forces and units now have full authorization and mandate to strike forcefully and decisively against any entity or individual that collaborates or coordinates with the enemy’s schemes or any treasonous entity outside the law and the traditions of our people. All collaborators, thieves, and criminal armed gangs are legitimate targets for the resistance units and security,” the Hamas statement said.

It is absolutely horrific and heartbreaking. We are truly watching the most horrible things humans can do to each other in Gaza. Nobody should be starving anyone to death.

The hostages families are desperately calling for a deal that will release their family members.

I listened to a spokeswoman this morning who said Israel has an ethos of not leaving anyone behind, given Jewish history I can see why. When you are shown tortured hostages such as Evyatar David what are the options?

SOAS lecturer also brought the other side of the discussion but could not answer why Hamas would not release the hostages.
