Palestine Action demo 9 August

To my amazement, last night I discovered that some posters on MN think that "radical Islam" means simply "Muslim" 😬

I wonder if this explains why so many are unconcerned about who might be pulling the strings behind the "peace" rallies that were first organised on 7 October? Do they know what radical Islam is, how powerful it is, that it is widely acknowledged as the greatest threat to UK national security, that its intentions are clearly stated, that it is 10000000% different than simply observing Muslim faith?

Palestine Action are planning a rally in central London on Saturday and hope to overwhelm the police presence. Is anyone concerned about this? I'm worried that the seeds of civil unrest are being sown, without it being entirely clear who is sowing them.

You know the Palestinian mob actually tore apart those two poor men who were no threat to them at all and had gone to a police station for safety.

There is a picture of the mob proudly holding up their inner body parts with glee which I won’t link to as it is horrific but it has been blurred in one MSM source I found which is Googleable.

That was in the West Bank not in Gaza.

Then you have people pretending not to understand why Israel has a military presence there.

Wow that's awful animal type behaviour. Any country would have a military presence with that type of behaviour going on.

Beachtastic · 17/08/2025 13:39

I do feel the Palestinian flag has been co-opted, unfortunately, ever since it was waved in processions in London immediately after the horrifying attacks on Israel, with people chanting "From the river to the sea..."

The co-founder of Palestine Action spoke publicly in support of Hamas on 8 October 2023, and still people are bending over backwards to support his group "because human rights" etc.

Hamas has never made any secret of its genocidal aims.

Given all the above, however well-intentioned the flag-waving, does no one stop to think how terrifying all this is to the Jewish community here? (And to others; I'm not Jewish!)

When younger, I supported all sorts of demos (e.g. CND) and remember my dad warning me to "beware of strange bedfellows." I had no idea what he meant at the time - I probably thought he was referring to my sex life!! - but I do understand it now...

Something darker than what's happening at the moment in Palestine?

Palestine Action is one UK based group with one suspect co founder.

Many many people all over the world use the Palestinian flag as a support for a people currently being massacred. Thousands of health care workers in Dublin marched yesterday using these flags. To say the flag they used "puts me in mind of a swastika" is just shocking.

This 100%

This thread is about Palestine Action. I am talking about where its co-founder's sympathies clearly lie, and I am worried that a lot of people who sincerely "support Palestine" (and the right of a dangerous group to exist) could unwittingly be lending their support to something much darker. I am not denigrating the Palestinian flag itself in any way.

I'm sorry but that is disgusting rhetoric.

Hamas have a different flag that is not the Palestinian flag.

You are saying that flying a Palestinian flag is equivalent to displaying a swastika.

I actually think this is the lowest of the low.

I think equating the flag of the Palestinian people who have been murdered in the tens of thousands, with the economist and others estimating the real death toll to be over 100k, with Nazis is a bit of a stretch and incredibly offensive.

Of course. But the Hamas ideology is clearly fascist; it's the distortion of their intentions (and the way the UK is lapping this up) that puts me in mind of the swastika, which was once seen as just a rallying symbol for reclaiming Germany’s strength and dignity after WW1. I doubt many of those displaying the Palestinian flag here in the UK have much grasp of what's at stake for Israel, or by extension for Jewish people in our own country.

Unreal. The Palestinian people have nothing left and now you think their flag should be outlawed @Beachtastic

I've said absolutely no such thing!

I have described my feelings when seeing it here in the UK.

The Palestinian people have not committed genocide and many Palestinians actually took in jewish families fleeing persecution during WW2. We display their flag to highlight the plight of a displaced people who are currently suffering a genocide. Scroll down the CITME board and you will see a heartbreaking thread by a christian whose whole family in Palestine has been wiped out by Israel.

Lots of inaccuracies and slants in that piece - it is clear where the writer’s (I do not say journalist because it is an opinion piece) loyalties lie. What a pro Palestinian group in the US says does not prove Palestinian Action a terrorist, what Hamas says does not prove Palestinian Action a terrorist. One of my brothers is quite right wing - it does not make me right wing! Not relevant but just another sloppy part they could have checked with google is that Holyhead does not operate a route to Northern Ireland. Anyone can blog or put an opinion piece online these days - it does not make it fact.

Richard Barnard used a metaphor to call for people to smash up factories manufacturing arms. Whether he secretly supports Hamas is not known either way - he says he doesn’t, I do not know the man or know if he does or not, I doubt you can say 100% either way either. Proving what one individual thinks is not relevant to whether or not Palestinian Action as a collective group of people is a terrorist group, to do that you would have to show that it is their collective mission to plan terrorist activities and that they have collectively displayed a pattern of violence. Even if it is shown that some individuals within their group support Hamas, which is reprehensible, those individuals are guilty of supporting a terrorist group not terrorism itself. Sinn Fein, a leading political party in Northern Ireland and Ireland, have many members who have expressed support for the IRA they have even had MPs/TDs who were past members of the IRA - including the leader at one point. I would never vote for a party like that for allowing individuals to join with such views, but the party itself has never been classed as a terrorist organisation because it has never carried out or planned terrorist acts. If holding reprehensible views was illegal then a lot more people would be in prison; for instance, Katie Hopkins called immigrants cockroaches, a Reform candidate said a nuke should be used to wipe out Islam, Tommy Robinson has said too many hateful and offensive things to count and has violently assaulted people, even Stamer echoed Enoch Powell with his speech referencing the “island of strangers”. If someone openly calls for violence against people then it is hate speech but if they just have reprehensible views we can’t do anything except hope they get food poisoning. However much you disagree with someone’s views, it does not make them a terrorist or soon all direct action groups who cost corporations money with traffic jams or splashes of paint will be designated terrorist and it will dilute the meaning of the word.

@Beachtastic interesting article despite the source not being one I would naturally gravitate to!

Hmmm, "me either" as the Americans say... but I guess a religious perspective makes it easier for people to understand what is really going on here.

How on earth can anyone 'celebrate' this. I despair how some are so brainwashed, they should be ashamed of themselves.

Some consolation that the bloke at the window has since been killed in an airtstrike, shame it was a quick death be nice for him to have endured the fear and torture his victims did.

The actions of the people who lynched those two soldiers were absolutely disgusting and what happened to them was horrible and unjustifiable.

Just regarding your last point though regarding the military being needed though, :
"Tensions had been escalating prior to the incident; over 100 Palestinians, two dozen of them children, had been killed by Israeli forces in the preceding two weeks"

"Huge respect for these people! I agree with the guy who says he doesn’t necessarily agree with vandalism - I would be the same - but vandalism is not terrorism and changing the parameters of what a terrorist is doesn’t just affect Palestinian protestors.
It is an attack on civil liberties to outlaw peaceful protest. A lot of changes were snuck in during the last few years and many people are unaware that they could be arrested for demonstrating for other causes too! One protestor I heard interviewed previously worked for the government and said he had been worried about the gradual erosion of civil liberties under successive governments. These are not old hippies - they are highly educated individuals - people who worked within government, heads of corporations, army personnel, lawyers, doctors etc…"

The IRA also blew up various buildings in the UK with bombs giving warnings to avoid casualties- was this simply vandalism or was it terrorism?

I have already stated on previous occasions that the IRA were a terrorist organisation (as were the UVF and UDA) - they were formed after huge civil rights abuses but went on to commit terrible atrocities, murdering innocent people. The IRA were terrorists because they killed and bombed innocent people, not for splashing paint or breaking windows.

I have also already stated I don’t agree with vandalism as I don’t really think it progresses a cause or achieves anything. However, there is a difference between vandalism and terrorism which is why many countries are criticising the UK and many in the human rights sphere are saying these new laws are an attack on civil liberties and the right to protest. The danger in reclassifying what is terrorism and needing permission to protest is an attack on democracy itself. If someone committed assault on a police officer they should be charged with assault - that is a serious crime and they should go to prison for it. I do not approve of any violence, particularly against the police who are doing their jobs. However, that individuals crime should not be labeled terrorism, it is assault with a deadly weapon, a serious crime with a hefty prison sentence but not the same as terrorism. Their group should not be charged as terrorists for the actions of one person, if it was shown that violence was routinely used by several members of their group then it could be seen as part of their mission but the actions of one individual does not make a pattern of behaviour.

In terms of throwing paint at the JNF I read that the motivation was because the JNF fund illegal settlements in the West Bank which makes them complicit in war crimes - less anti semitic and more anti violent displacement I would say. Again I don’t really think throwing paint really achieves much or furthers the cause. I think they should instead concentrate on the legalities of raising funds to send abroad that are going towards illegal activities and try to get the organisation investigated for their part in this. Pursuing criminals who fund illegal settlements in the courts, highlighting their crimes in the media and hurting them financially through boycotts etc… is the way to go, it would hurt them a lot more than a little bit of paint.

Reading about why they chose to protest was interesting. The concerns on infringement of right to protest was a significant part.

Journalists also have concerns in how they cover the protests, for example:
