Conflict in the Middle East

Does the CITME forum negatively affect your mental health?

Personally, yes, it does.

To see people day in and day out try and justify a genocide does affect my mental health so I try to stay away at times.

I have also noticed it is the same handful of posters on both sides arguing, neither convincing the other.

I have unfortunately witnessed at times anti-semitic and anti-Palestinian comments, which are not pleasant to read.

Does it affect you? It is not always a pleasant place whatever your stance is on the conflict.

@Gloriia here is a link to a video of the man Israel murdered along with his colleagues, as you seem to be having trouble understanding that we are dealing with the deaths of humans here. Israeli claims of oh but Hamas are not reliable as has been repeatedly shown. They have killed close to two hundred journalists,

You calling them silly is embarrassing. They do a fine job holding the genocidal IDF to account.

'Asking how anyone can be sure someone is a terrorist before accepting such a grave accusation is exactly what responsible reporters do- it’s not a sign of ignorance but of integrity.'

Oh of course you ask and challenge but professionally not in a yeah but no but way.. It was cringeworthy to watch. Perhaps I need to try a different channel but then we have Jeremy Bowen on the bbc wanging on about not being able to film out of a plane window seemingly oblivious to the fact that is normal in areas of conflict as there will be classified military locations etc they wont want the bbc sharing globally . Obvious to everyone except Jez.

The way you write phrases like “wanging on” really undermines your own argument. Honestly, some of your posts are so poorly phrased and off-putting that I’ve wondered if you’re unintentionally making the pro-Israeli side look worse.

Tell you what disappoints me, the media. Sky news now 2 reporters wittering on about the bloke killed who was a terrorist and also worked for aljazeera. These silly reporters up there with Jeremy Bowen intelligence wise asking exasperated IDF spokespeople 'yes but how do you know he was a terrorist??' As if they're going to reveal all their intelligence, the stuff we've seen online seems pretty incriminating and that's without all the classified info we won't see.

News flash Sky reporters, they don't kill innocent journalists Confused.

I find it disappointing when serious journalistic inquiry is dismissed as “silly.” Asking how anyone can be sure someone is a terrorist before accepting such a grave accusation is exactly what responsible reporters do- it’s not a sign of ignorance but of integrity.

Moreover, relying on unverified “online” content as proof is deeply problematic; social media can easily spread misinformation and propaganda. Blanket statements like “they don’t kill innocent journalists” are factually incorrect. Multiple independent investigations- including those by Amnesty International, the UN, and the Committee to Protect Journalists- have documented cases where Israeli military actions have killed journalists, sometimes with tragic consequences.

It’s crucial to uphold demands for transparency and accountability, especially in conflict zones where civilians and reporters alike face extreme risks. Dismissing calls for evidence and justice undermines not only journalism but also fundamental principles of human rights and international law.

Frankly, your points sound rather “silly” and aren’t persuading anyone.

Oh fgs.

If it harms your mental health why on earth do it at all?

Admittedly its often frustrating when others don't even try to understand where opposing points of view could come from. And it takes me away from more constructive things sometimes.

But damaging to mental health? Get off it then!

Can't unsee starving children with their skin burned off which is then followed by living amongst the ghouls that justify it.

Free the hostages, hamas surrender. We should all say it together!

Everyday I see more and more companies and governments distancing and condemning the Israeli government for their genocidal actions in Gaza and the West Bank.

For example just today:

'I find it incredibly depressing and infuriating'

Well I find it encouraging to see that so many don't lap up the crap that hamas spout. Many can see there is aid, the people stopping it are hamas themselves those terrorists who couldn't give a shit that their people suffer whilst they gorge on food and sell it at exorbitant proces.

I do not know one person irl who parrot the 'the IDF is doing a genocide' hysteria. Rather, yes the gazans are suffering so we can only hope the IDF get rid of the terrorists and left gazans live in peace.

'Free the hostages and get rid of hamas'. Stick that on the placards.

I do not know a single person in real life who is in denial that the IDF are carrying out a genocide of the Palestinians.

This is no longer a isolated opinon - it is mainstream.

Alittlefeedbackwouldbenice · 12/08/2025 14:04

I find it incredibly depressing and infuriating.

We act like we are more enlightened now then in previous generations, with our talk about equality and human rights, and desire to not let history repeat itself, but we are no different, we never learn. History is doomed to repeat itself.

We wonder how people looked the other way in other genocides and now we can see exactly how it happens because here we are again, but this time we (as a society) at the ones choosing to look the other way.

It makes me realise that people I might be friends with, neighbours with, might be willing to either support genocide. That a certain section of society are willing to disbelieve evidence that conflicts with their view.

Before the US elections, Trump said that he could open fire in the middle of 5th avenue and people would still vote for him. Despite that vile statement they did, and the unwillingness of some people to believe incontrovertible evidence in Gaza makes me think he was absolutely right.

And that is terrifying. We live in a post truth world, and that is terrifying. It leaves us all in a vulnerable place.

Everexpanding · 12/08/2025 12:33

Yes, I have found discussions on the citme very disturbing. The quantity of apologists for genocide spreading misinformation is very disturbing, those who do so while feigning concern and calling for civility while defending the indefensible is possibly the most disturbing, changed my view of humanity.

The past week has been very enlightening on these threads

No I don’t think it matters and it hasn’t been deleted 🤷‍♀️ all the nasty comments were though.

I do find it ironic that some posters object so strongly to being mocked, when in other threads they’ve been more than happy to mock, gang up on, or belittle others.

This.

Double standards as usual.

I'm saying we all experience it though. I've had the piss taken out me repeatedly on these threads. You have to shrug it off, report attacks yes but I think it is ironic that some report sarcasm and mild mockery when they dish out worse.

We should perhaps all agree to watch our tone?

I agree with you and I've certainly had the piss taken out of me, had sarcasm used against me etc. Plus what I consider much, much worse which is being accused of not caring about the deaths of Gazan children, lacking humanity etc.

We all experience it at times and I don't think the mods use double standards when deleting posts. I don't always agree with their decisions but I accept they try to be impartial and stick to the chat guidelines.

what I’ve just described isn’t the odd snippy comment.

We all experience it though, it isnt double standards. I've been hounded on other threads being asked the same thing repeatedly, literally constant quoting, really ott.

We all feel strongly about our beliefs and yes sometimes sarcasm is there but it is a forum for adults to debate. I think as long as there isn't abuse and attempts to bully then we should be able to tolerate the odd snippy comment.
