Conflict in the Middle East

Many pro-Palestinians DO actually support Hamas

There I said it.

Obviously they won’t come out and admit it, for fear of exposing themselves as supporters of evil, and also because they worry that they may be traced as it is supposedly illegal to support Hamas, as a proscribed terrorist group.

The evidence is all there -

The blind belief in the blatant Hamas propaganda which defies sense and logic.

The demonising descriptive language used to describe Israel.

The insistence that a war Israel didn’t start justifies Israeli and Jewish people around the work being persecuted, attacked and even murdered.

The protests against Israel but not Hamas who actually started the war.

The complete lack of interest or outrage in the Israeli hostages who actually included children and and a baby.

The calls for immediate ceasefire since the war started with no calls for Hamas to surrender.

The complete lack of accountability for Hamas and Palestinians in general.

I cannot fathom that anyone with a sane mind would support evil, barbaric murderers and rapists who also actively want to get their own civilians killed, and kill them themselves, so can we assume that for these people, their hatred of Israel and the Jewish people is greater than their care for human life as a whole.

A genuine question.

After witnessing image after image of starving/malnourished babies and children this week, I have not much left to say.

but: “This cartoon really captures the moral distortion we keep seeing — where starving Palestinian children are still met with demands to ‘condemn Hamas’ before their suffering is acknowledged.”

Edited

Surely you should be saying

‘EGYPT! OPEN YOUR FUCKING BORDERS!’

So aren’t you concerned that Irish children are receiving antisemitic education
They're not. Where's your evidence they are?

What is so special about Gaza that Irish can relate?
It goes back to British mandate Palestine when the same soldiers and officers that terrorised the Irish then went on to terrorise the Palestinians. Many of the same British colonial officials served in both places.

Really did the British terrorise the Palestinians? You mean the Jewish and Christian Palestinians too?

When did Jewish people terrorist the Irish?

How is that relatable?

Someone on these threads said in NI that pro-pal and pro-Israel are split along sectarian lines, the republic seems to have a very pro-pal stance.

They may not have the same pro-pal anti-Semite overlap that we see in mainland UK.

This sounds about right.

I live in Scotland and, for some reason, we seem to have inherited the brain rot that is sectarianism.

It’s alive and well in my city, and a good majority of those taking part in the Pro-Palestine protests are ultras belonging to a certain football team.

The other side are equally as problematic, albeit I don’t think they care about the Israel/Palestine conflict to the same extent. They are certainly problematic in other ways.

These people have been primed for hatred and bigotry, so it’s no great surprise, really.

Beachtastic · 02/08/2025 19:34

This thread would be hilarious if it wasn't so tragic.

@LadyCankleOfGrantham
"I was talking about the leaders who’ve spoke out about the curriculum. So aren’t you concerned that Irish children are receiving antisemitic education"

No because they are not. If they haven't been taught that particular lesson which was the only thing the leaders spoke out about.

Are you interested in the states on antisemitism in Ireland? This is the third time I’ve asked so I’m assuming not.
Send them on so , (I presume you mean stats)

What is so special about Gaza that Irish can relate? It’s not the only country, or even the most recent country with “stolen land”. So why do Irish people care so much about this specific country and not others?

I don't have space on this thread for 800 years of history but suffice to say there are massive parallels between the two countries. Even down to Balfour being involved in the both countries and the same Black and Tans regiments terrorising Ireland and the Palestinians.

And I don’t see genocide in Gaza, its conflict perpetrated by a terrorist state. Much like how Magdalene laundries aren’t actually a genocide, but me saying it doesn’t make it true (I think you missed my irony there). Both are humanitarian crises, much like the many happening the world over. They are not a genocide.

You brought up the "genocide of teenage girls" in a completely unironic way so I am not at all understanding why you have decided to twist this (perhaps because you were wrong?)

We know the answer. You can choose to be deluded about it if you like.

Impact SE (Israeli non profit)wrote the report about Anti semitism in the Irish Curriculum. It is the report that is used when discussing anti semitism in the books in the Irish Curriculum.

World Jewish Congress denounced the INTO teaching materials called "Talk about Palestine". That is not curriculum. It is an optional teaching material produced by the teachers union.

Genocide is the deliberate and systematic destruction of a national, ethnic, racial, or religious group. It involves acts committed with the intent to destroy, in whole or in part, such a group.

While the atrocities of the Magdalen Laundries in Ireland and England are a huge stain on the society I cannot understand how it would fit into the definition above can you?
(Also it wasn't just teenage girls it was a wide section of ages and backgrounds)

Let’s not forget that they don’t give a jot about the many humanitarian crises and compare this to the Holocaust.

Isn’t it funny how, of the many current crisis, and the many last crises, they compare the two? Then when you tell them it’s antisemitic to do so, they call you an antisemite for “saying Israelis are Jewish”.

They’re thick AF and I see these people every time

Im not saying ALL pro-Palestinian supporters are antisemitic, but a fact the surface a little and you’ll easily find some ancient trope about Jews under there

Just watching The Tattooist of Auschwitz on Sky right now and feeling more and sickened at those who try to draw comparisons.

They are seriously lacking in some cognitive function.

It also occurred to me that Hamas and their supporters are actually trying to play out the holocaust with Palestinian civilians and the Israeli hostages as a form of psychological warfare.

The World Jewish Congress is an Israeli non-profit?

Ate you sure?

But let’s pretend you’re right. Because it’s Israeli it must be a lie?

Have YOU read it? Are you interested in the rates of Jews, real people, experiencing antisemitism in Ireland? Or are Those pesky Jews playing victim again amirite.

This is why I’m not buying the whole “Us Irish support Palestine as we can relate, it happened to us!”. Just say what it’s really about.

To what an Irish person dismiss genocide of teenage girls in living memory is disappointing. My GPs were Irish and I heard horrific tales of what happened in the Catholic Church (which is why I renounced my Catholicism decades ago).

So you don’t want to see stats on antisemitism in Ireland? Or hear about the alarming number of Sinn Fein TDs who support Hitler?

But sure no antisemitism to see here!

Do you know what genocide means?

And to hear someone is not Irish dismiss an event that shaped Irish history and culture and population as "not in living memory" so we shouldn't talk about it.

The famine isn’t in living memory, I’m amazed they aren’t working to be outraged about more recent Irish curated disasters.

Are you Jewish? If not it’s not up to you to decide if Ireland is antisemitic. Are you interested in looking at data around this?

But hearing an Irish person call Jewish people “over the top” when they talk about being victims definitely isn’t peddling an antisemitic trope. No way Jose!

Actually Ireland is in more of a position to speak out than anyone else because they called our genocide by a coloniser a famine too.

I completely reject any idea that Ireland is largely anti semitic. Our history is very much mirrored in what we see as the Palestinian struggle.

(Oh and that report is completely over the top : as a teacher I have read the whole thing and I have never seen such nitpicking)

Facts tell you otherwise. Perhaps look at the stats and listen to the Jewish leaders who’ve spoken about how’s there’s antisemitism in Irish curriculum?

Besides Ireland isn’t really in a position to speak out against human mistreatment given the very recent living memory incidents of women, girls and children abused, tortured and killed horrifically while its people turned a blind eye. To posture about how terrible other countries are is laughable when victims haven’t even had an apology yet
