Conflict in the Middle East

Why aren't women and children being evacuated from gaza?

I've just seen horrific photos of starving children on a news article. Why on earth are we not evacuating them? The population isn't huge, if split between many countries the cost of supporting them would be minimal compared to other expenditure.
I don't understand how it's been left to get to this point without anyone intervening, or really how everyone hasn't intervened.
Who cares about the land at this point, these are children who are likely to die by the look of them, who could live a happy healthy life somewhere else.

@YourBrickTiger I'm going to assume you are asking this question in good faith about What I'm struggling with aside from the actual situation is why are the likes of American and UK troops not storming the place to stop Israel? Surely that's how Hitler was stopped?

The simple answer is that the America and the UK are allies with Israel so we certainly won't be "storming the place" anytime soon. The difference with Hitler is that he was the enemy of America and the UK - we were at war with his government at the time as I expect you know .

Also, some people do find genocide inversion offensive, especially those who may have Jewish family or connections (Google it if you're not familiar with the term). Which is why they get upset when certain words are used (which you may or may not care about, I don't know).

Yes I totally appreciate that. The Holocaust is one of the worst cases of mass murder in history and the whole thing makes me physically ill. If that didn't come across I apologise - I have been shouting at people for a year who are minimising the Holocaust because of what Israel is doing now.

I can't actually believe you are denying it. There are children dying of malnourishment every hour. I know a lot about the Holocaust and WW2 and find the personal attack very hurtful and deeply unnecessary. Get back to me when you've been to Berlin and visited concentration camps like Auschwitz. Think you are perhaps covering for your own ignorance. I'm not really sure what else would you call a whole eradication of people and starving them to death. But clearly you know best.

'Malnourishment' was not what the Holocaust was about. If you have been to Auschwitz you would know that the Holocaust was systematic. It was a long term strategy to dehumanise the Jewish people, dismantle their livelihoods and civil rights and then sytematically murder them in an industrial death complex. The Jews did not wage war on the German state or people. Unlike Hamas. The comparison completely inaccurate and deeply offensive.

Comedycook · 25/07/2025 16:19

Its nothing like the Holocaust...unless you are going for a very vague 'people are dying' type comparison.

Personal attacks on me don’t change reality. You’ve not answered my points. If you’ve been to Auschwitz you know that the Holocaust went way beyond starvation to building factories of death. What is happening in Gaza is appalling, but there are other wars, other atrocities, other starving children. We cannot invade all those countries; we cannot save every child in the Congo, Yemen, even Ukraine. There was a complete lack of outrage - and still is - about the Yazidi and the Rohingha and the Congo. We failed to support the Syrian people when they were being slaughtered by Assad.

I deeply recent you implying that I was minimising the Holocaust. I've spent the last year striking out at people who keep doing that. If my words made you think otherwise then that's on me. Of course I know what happened during WW2 and I've seen those death factories for myself.

I just feel that Gaza is heading the same way but again - you could be right with the other countries you refer to. Seeing the pictures of so many dying children is too much. And it does very much seem that Netanyahu is just trying to eradicate them. I don't understand why he isn't being taken out. But yes, you're right that it does apply to other places which aren't highlighted as much. All the best.x

I’m sorry, but no. This is not another holocaust, and if you knew anything of the history of the holocaust or the 2nd world war, you would not make that comparison. And as a basic point, Britain did not go to war with Hitler because of his genocide, it was because he invaded Poland and sought to invade us as well. Following your train of argument, do we also invade the DRC? Yemen? Somalia? Syria? Myanmar? North Korea? There are other wars, other atrocities, other starving children. The lens is always only on Gaza.

Why can't you discuss this without bringing in the Nazis? Ridiculous holocaust inversion. You clearly know nothing about the Second World War, how and why it happened, or what the Holocaust was. Never mibd any understanding of this war.

Bumble6 · 25/07/2025 15:22

If they were to allow Palestinians to take refuge in other countries, where do all the posters thinking this is a good idea, think they should go? As many neighbouring countries in the middle east do not want to take any would they be spread throughout Europe? The U.S? South America?
The population of Gaza has a massive amount of young people and children in it so we'd be talking masses of people

Probably the same motivation that some people have in dismissing Palestinian suffering.

They see them as collectively responsible for the actions of their government.

Doesn't make either of them ok.

Yes, but when people deny access to refugees they might (rightly or wrongly) explain it with security concerns.
No such concerns exist in the case of a restaurant.

inamarina · 25/07/2025 15:08

TrelawnyBastian · 25/07/2025 14:44

I don’t know thats why I asked, why?

I guess that people who choose to exclude and/or attack Israelis purely based on their government’s actions might just dislike Israelis (or Jews in general, but they will hardly admit it). Why else would they harass those people?
I might have missed something, but I haven’t seen Russians being treated like that around the world, definitely not to that extent, despite their government launching an unprovoked attack on a neighbouring country.

You missed the point. PP are saying there's a fault with Palestinians that's why according to them they were not evacuated into neighbouring countries.

So does this also apply to Israeli's who are clearly unwanted in some places. Is it also their fault?

Deciding whether or not to allow large numbers of refugees from a particular place into your country is not the same as tolerating a restaurant representing the cuisine of a country whose current government you’re not agreeing with.
I don’t know why the surrounding countries won’t take in Gazan refugees.
Some of them had negative experiences in the past, like Jordan and Lebanon, and their reluctance seems to be based on that, at least partially.
What would the reason to smash up an Israeli restaurant in a completely different country be?

TrelawnyBastian · 25/07/2025 14:44

inamarina · 25/07/2025 14:42

Why did protesters in Greece deny access to Israeli tourists? Why was an Israeli restaurant in Berlin vandalised? Why were two of the Israeli embassy staff in Washington DC shot dead?
Do you think it’s because people are just trying to express their legitimate criticism of the Israeli government?

I don’t know thats why I asked, why?

Anti-Israel sentiment in Europe is very high. I don't think many Europeans want to see Israelis, especially those who participated in the genocide to come to the EU.

Is that fair? Do you think that Israelis are to blame for the growing anti-Israel sentiment? Is it their fault that people are protesting that they even land in their country for a vacation, let alone settle there.

inamarina · 25/07/2025 14:42

By the look of things in Cyprus and Greece nobody want’s the Israeli’s either. Why?

Nobody wants them.
Why not.
Why do other Arabic or Muslim countries not want them.

However it should have been the people living in Israel that should have been evacuated, it was them that were invaded, murdered, raped and held and still being held ! hostage.

Where were the pleas from Governments to open our homes to the people living in Israel - like there was for the Ukrainian people when Russia invaded them / began a war against them.

I have seen some people say Hamas should have/ could have evacuated.

Can I ask how Palestine was supposed to evacuate its civilians? Innocent Palestinians essentially live in a prison, they cannot leave. We’ve all seen boat loads of Israeli’s leaving Israel (rightly so if they are frightened), but at least they have the choice.

I am by no means in support of Hamas, but I am just so blown away by people justifying what is happening in Gaza, to innocent people. What happened on October 7th is absolutely terrible, horrendous a nightmare for those hostages and those who were sadly killed by Hamas, but the response for nearly 2 years is unjustifiable. It is a genocide!

If you are pro-palestinian, you are anti-Semitic or a terrorist sympathiser, but those in support of the Israeli government and their genocidal war mongering lunatic of a leader can say what they want! Justifying shooting kids trying to get aid, dehumanising a whole race of people, believing un reputable news sources making false claims. It beggars belief!

Nothing anyone says can make me believe Israel is right, it’s gone too far. The world isn’t coming to save those poor innocent babies in Gaza and some people are happy about that. Disgraceful.

Voxon · 25/07/2025 13:56

There are two possible scenarios for Hamas.

In the first, they launch an attack on Israel, evacuate their civilians, and fight a conventional war. Israel responds, targets their fighters directly, and ultimately defeats them with minimal civilian casualties.

In the second - which is what we’ve seen - they launch an invasion, deliberately keep civilians in harm’s way, embed themselves in homes, hospitals, and schools, and build terror tunnels beneath densely populated areas. This forces Israel into a brutal dilemma: either strike and risk civilian deaths, or hold back and let Hamas regroup. Either way, the world watches, then blames Israel, not Hamas.

The war is won militarily, but antisemitism explodes globally after decades of infiltration, and Hamas gains propaganda victories by turning dead civilians into weapons.

Given those two choices, it’s no surprise which one Hamas picked. They don’t aim to win on the battlefield, they aim to win in the court of public opinion, even if it means sacrificing their own people.

No I think you find more and more people believe it

and there are far more people suggesting it isn’t happening than I ever saw suggesting the hostages were happy

I never saw that
but there are at least a couple of genocide deniers on here

Spot on.
