Absolutely this! I mean it shouldn't even need saying surely?!

Yet it needs saying that innocent civilians die in wars? That apparently needs to be repeated day in day out with even individual examples of people dying being recounted. Just in case anyone forgets for a minute that the IDF are killing more people than Hamas now.

Agreed. And of course we know that lots and lots of palestinians and their allies did not have that 'sane and intelligent' reaction. What did she do about that?

see below comments Albanese made regarding Hamas leadership, stop with the pathetic smears,

Albanese added: "I want justice to be served. I expect it to be served."
"Clearly, Yahya Sinwar was a military target (...) and an individual who had committed crimes and ordered crimes against Israeli civilians, but he should have been tried and brought to justice," she continued.

Ooh she sounds like she really hates Hamas with that comment doesn’t she? He was a top Hamas leader and still the worst she could say about him was that he had committed & ordered unspecified crimes. Why not call a spade a spade or a massacre a massacre?

Compare that to the emotive rhetoric she uses against Israel and it’s pretty obvious she is minimising what Hamas did and continue to do.

She is a highly biased commentator- no wonder so many people on this thread love her.

A sane intelligent person would have been horrified and saddened by the events of October 7th, A sane intelligent person would not have chosen to collectively punish a civilian population and outdo do Hamas in horror and unjustified killing. A sane person would have prioritised the retrieval of the hostages over their own primeval lust for revenge.

What would 'anyone's' first reaction to 7 October have been?

I think anyone’s first reaction at the moment would be to attempt to halt the starvation, bombing, sniping and maiming of the civilian Palestinian population by Israel which is what Francesca Albanese is focussing on doing

Everexpanding · 18/07/2025 09:21

SharonEllis · 18/07/2025 09:09

But what has she done to condemn them and to help get rid of them? If you care about Palestinians surely getting rid of Hamas oppression would be your first priority?

Marketing manager for Hamas possibly more appropriate.

Rather than focus on the message that she is trying to give, it is safer for some to say she is pro-Hamas and ignore her concerns?

Seems like a convenient way of not wanting to listen to what she does have to say.

I have yet to see any evidence that she has supported Hamas, except that her criticisms of Israel draw attention to the plight of Palestinians.

So you can’t provide any evidence that she has ever condemned Hamas for 7/10 or held them accountable in any way for the resulting war?

In the absence of that then yes I will assume she is pro Hamas.

Without any evidence to the contrary I'd have to agree!

This would be consistent in her role as United Nations Special Rapporteur on the occupied Palestinian territories I think.

No one has responded to the comment made by @Anonimummy that Francesca Albanese has never ( to her knowledge) called our Hamas for their actions on 7/10 or held them accountable in any way for all the civilians including women & children that have been killed as a result of that massacre.

Has she ever criticised Hamas at all does anyone know?

If not maybe she needs a new job title to reflect the fact she supports Hamas.

This would be consistent in her role as United Nations Special Rapporteur on the occupied Palestinian territories I think.

Not if that person’s work is focused on Palestine and Palestinians.
It would be bizarre if she were commenting on Dafur/Western Sahara/North Korea.

Exceptionalize is such a weasel term. It just seems like a justification for any actions. So let me ask you a question: are you aware big any action carried out by the IDF on behalf of the government in this campaign which troubles you, and which you think is “too far”, or is everything necessary/ acceptable.

Exactly, Francesca Albanese's job title is United Nations Special Rapporteur on the occupied Palestinian territories.

Good point, Would be good to see some sort of consequences for those who have been complicit if only to discourage similar in the future but hard to imagine now when Israel itself has been allowed to act with impunity,

There we already numerous legal cases brought in other countries. I don’t know, but if the case for alleged genocide is successful, it might bring more legal cases against those who facilitated it? Perhaps Albanese is simply highlighting to shareholders and customers?

Stripes56 · 18/07/2025 07:52

Mistakes that repeatedly happen are indicative of an attitude that is systematically cavalier (at best) or purposefully malignant towards the safety of innocent Palestinians.

You cannot repeatedly make mistakes and then not learn from them if you genuinely mean well to innocent civilians.

This systemic disregard for Palestinian lives will surely be part of the evidence in future trials regarding alleged genocide?

Albanese job role is to look specifically at the human rights situation in Palestinian occupied territories. She is doing her job remarkably well.

Everexpanding · 18/07/2025 07:47

It can do if you hold Israel to unequal/unrealistic standards and if you only criticise Israel and not others. If you exceptionalise Israel you probably are doing it motivated by antisemitism.

I think expecting a country not to commit war crimes is not holding it to an unrealistic standard, you shout anti semitism it doesn’t work to change the facts.
Was the systematic blocking of aid and medical supplies a mistake? Or an action with genocidal intent?

SharonEllis · 18/07/2025 06:35

GuevarasBeret · 18/07/2025 06:25

I think I would agree with all of your second paragraph other than the phrase “make mistakes”. It some of the mistakes are actually deliberate wouldn’t that be a problem.

Additionally, what do you see as the route to peace? And does the continued bloodshed and destruction make peace, never mind a lasting peace more or less likely?

This thread is about Albanese, not me. Her route to peace is more interesting and relevant than derailing. What is it?

GuevarasBeret · 18/07/2025 06:25

SharonEllis · 18/07/2025 06:14

No it wouldn't. To put this war and the conflict in general in various wider contexts would be entirely appropriate in the context of the UN.

Yes there are. Why wouldn't there be. Some of us don't see the world in black and white. Some of us don't eceptionalise Israel, Israelis or their government but recognise that they are human, flawed and likely to make mistakes like any other people, like any other army, like any other government. Particularly in the face of what is a rather exceptional terrorist guerilla army and a rather exceptional number of multiple fronts.
