At long last the police are cracking down on hard marches

I think it's great that the police are starting to take supporting terrorists seriously and are now using anti terror legislation to start making the arrests that should have happened some time ago. As predicted as the Gaza conflict has ground on there are more and more pro Palestine looks prepared to flirt with proscribed groups.

Maybe some halal time or fines will make these people think a bit more.

A number of police officers on a road with some members of the public taking photos and filming. The police appear to be carrying a person although only their foot can be seen in the image.

More than 70 arrests at Palestine Action ban protests

The protests - and the arrests - come after the pro-Palestinian group was proscribed as a terror organisation.

Absolutely rubbish, we all have eyes

I remember going to protests for things, including Iraq war. Very different vibe.

These marches have people with faces covered, symbols of "the resistance" everywhere (terrorists), obviously antisemitic signs, deliberately trying to make Jews uncomfortable or intimidated. I think Hamas have thanked then as that's who they're helping

They're bullies really. Racist bullies. It's not a peace movement at all. They just hate Israel.

They can deny that all they want but the very first time I saw signs with swastikas or people ripping down hostage posters I would have left and not gone back.

I have not seen a single person with a face cover in any of the marches I have attended. I have marched alongside mostly families with your children. Quite similar vibes to the anti war in Iraq March actually.

Hamas have encouraged you to think in those terms by reporting all deaths as civilian, whether they are Hamas or not... as well as flooding social media with distressing images of dead and dying children, unlike Israel who are more respectful of the families concerned.

I'd be interested to know how you would fight a terrorist opponent that is deeply embedded in civilian life to the extent that they ensure its activists cannot be identified (unlike normal wars where combatants are uniformed). Can you not see the problem here? And do you really think that Hamas is interested in a peace deal? They have their eyes on the prize, which is to eradicate Israel once and for all ("from the river to the sea").

Have you considered that if Israel wanted the "mass slaughter of civilians" it could easily have eradicated the entire population of Gaza long ago, instead of ~2.5%? The Hamas-controlled Gaza Health Ministry does not differentiate between civilians and armed militants in its reporting. It simply labels all deaths as resulting from "Israeli aggression". Even if you accept without question the number of deaths they report as entirely civilian, the ratio of deaths per air strike is lower than would be expected, despite the fact that Hamas deliberately hide behind hospitals and schools.

Obviously 2.5% of such a massive population is significant and distressing, but it simply does not add up to the claims you are making. Please be cautious about swallowing Hamas propaganda hook, line and sinker and then voicing it as thought it's incontestable.

I doubt you will read this link, but sharing just in case it helps:

I am not going to spend time responding to a poster who is dismissing tens and thousands of civilians mostly women and children dying as Hamas propaganda.
I think we are going in circles here.

I would be really interested in a thread with more. moderate voices where we could have a more interesting discussions about moving forward ie two state solution etc and how people think that could happen. Maybe I will try to start one.

Regardless of your age, there won't have been a single moment in your life where some war/conflict/humanitarian crisis hasn't occurred....and there won't be for the rest of your life. Do you feel this passionately about other conflicts?

Yes I do actually.

We are not just talking about Israel fighting Hamas though, are we? We are talking about mass slaughter of civilians. This war is not making Israel or the world a safer place, on the contrary.

Gosh. So many “errors”

Gaza officials say children killed in strike as Israeli military admits 'error' https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/c0rvxjnvv71o

A ceasefire does involve Hamas too.

I personally can’t sit and look at in silence the humanitarian catastrophe we see in Gaza today and I don’t know how anyone can. There are practical things one can do. Personally I donate money to Doctors Without Borders and I buy Palestinian fair trade products from the Amnesty shop.

I agree there’s a humanitarian crisis in Gaza. There is also one in Sudan. Why does the Gaza conflict garner way more coverage than Sudan? Is it because of the involvement of Israel?

Consequences for Israel of giving up on fighting Hamas?

Any calls for hostage release? Condemnation of hamas?

That is true. But the marches I have been past are all about wanting the war to end and nothing about wanting further death.

I think you are very focused on “the hard left”, ignoring that being pro palestine ie peace in Palestine and anti Israel occupation, is a pretty pedestrian view.

Yeah, threatening people, including patrons in eateries are doing nothing but stroking their own egos. I'm out with my situationship man, right now, so I'm signing out.

SisforSusanna · 13/07/2025 14:26

Dangermoo · 13/07/2025 14:21

Well maybe if the hard left gave it a rest, took off the keffiyehs and stopped intimidating people, they might command more credibility. I bet you have no problem with the ubiquitous far right label.

I dislike the Daily Mail and I am ashamed of myself for reading it (online) for celebrity gossip. Describing people are hard left and liberal luvvies is very Daily Mail in particular the comment section.

Beachtastic · 13/07/2025 13:49

Blimey, yes, very interesting!

In a November 2023 interview, James “Fergie” Chambers said that he pays the legal fees of Palestine Action members. Chambers is an heir to what Forbes considers one of the wealthiest American family enterprises, Cox Enterprises, from which he has reportedly “inherited millions.” Chambers has stated, “I chant death to America every day” and posted that “We need to start making people who support Israel actually afraid to go out in public.” In October 2023, he posted that, “No faction of the Palestinian resistance, Hamas or other, has done anything wrong.”

And the co-founder due to stand trial next year for “one count of inviting support for a proscribed organisation, namely Hamas, under section 12(1A) of the Terrorism Act.”

Obviously nothing to worry about there, we should just let them crack on...

Christ, that Chambers bloke has obviously got Daddy issues!

Dangermoo · 13/07/2025 14:06

So why make a sarcastic unoriginal post about the Daily Mail? No, it is not genocide.

So by that definition, acts of vandalism that happened during Kristallnacht can be described as mere criminal damage?

Surely you can see their actions are racially motivated? But that’s ok, because Jews don’t matter?

I agree with this. It's very obvious it's a movement motivated by antisemitism but they're clever with words to avoid accountability. Like the poster upthread jumping straight into the "Israel lobby". It's obvious antisemitism.

If Tommy Robinson built a protect group tomorrow saying he was defending Christians or something, would they be allowed to have mobs outside mosques? To boycott Muslim businesses? To vandalise Muslim companies?

They'd all have been jailed the first week it happened.

Jews don't count

How do you think 'From the River to the Sea' would be achieved without further death? What do you think 'Judaism yes, Zionism No' actually means?

EasternStandard · 13/07/2025 14:06

SisforSusanna · 13/07/2025 14:05

Exactly. It’s about ending the human suffering and ceasefire. I have marched next to all sorts of people. Lots of families with young children.

No one is arresting people in marches though just terrorist supporters, the thread title is a bit misleading.

SisforSusanna · 13/07/2025 14:03

Both Netanyahu and Gallant are alongside Hamas wanted for war crimes and crimes against humanity by the International Criminal Court and The UN, Amnesty and Doctors Without Borders have all called it a genocide, so it’s not a controversial view.

I do occasionally read the Guardian. I occasionally read the Daily Mail. I have a The Times subscription.

Coming from a proponent of the same inaccurate repetitive labels, such as genocide. Taker of the Guardian, are we?
