I'm an Orthodox Christian. It has just occurred to me that we might lose all of our sacred places in the Holy Land if this hostility by israel continues.

How do you bomb a church by mistake? I don't accept that excuse.

I don't know considering it was hit by a tank you would think a church was big enough they would see it and know what it was. Catholic churches tend to be pretty distinctive.

The priest that spoke with the late Pope was injured in the attack.

Patriarchs and heads of churches jpined together to show solidarity.

On the matter of the same God, we have what is the example of God in Jesus who said that who had seen Him had seen the Father. Now He had to be speaking of the God the Jews worshipped because nothing else makes sense of that. He was a Jew and went to the Temple to worship there. As for Islam, they believe they worship the same God, the Compassionate, the Merciful, and we can assess their way of life, they way they speak of God by measuring against Jesus. Do they help the poor, the sick, and so on? Yes they do. Don't just judge by the few psychopathic killers - if you do, you have to do the same for Christian lynch mobs over the centuries as well. Some of them killing others who thought they were Christians, because they didn't feel the same about the words of the various creeds.
And WWJD? Well, he didn't withhold from helping people according to belief. Think the Roman centurion who begged help for his slave. The nearest he would have come in belief would be to Mithras, if he wasn't a follower of someone more wildly pagan and non-existent. He didn't ask for the articles of belief of the man whose friends let him down through the roof for healing. (Though of course you could argue that their faith in Him was shown by their actions.)
I actually have more difficulty believing that I share belief in the one and only God with some of those who define their belief by the creed, if they then go on to suggest that we drown the migrants in small boats, or in the past, condemn poor women and children to the Magdalen Laundries. By their fruits you shall know them.

Oh no, The Jerusalem Post are writing about it too, as are numerous other perfectly legitimate news outlets.

Are people seriously attempting to dismiss this as fake news or merely being sneery towards Instagram etc.?

They're panicking, American Christian Evangelicals are one of, if not the largest supporters of Israel approx 30 million+. Unfortunately the Scofield Bible which deliberately misrepresents scripture has been wholly accepted by this group as the truth.

Leading to millions of people like Senator Ted Cruz who said:

"As a Christian, growing up in Sunday school, I was taught from the Bible that those who bless Israel will be blessed, and those who curse Israel will be cursed. I want to be on the blessing side of things,” [an apparent reference to Genesis 12:3.]

And

“Biblically, we are commanded to support Israel."

Losing this base would be extremely detrimental.

Yes, but he's divine in Christianity, which is blasphemous in Judaism and Islam, I'd absolutely love to think they're all actually worshipping the same God ( although, shit, the irony ) but can't make the creeds fit.
Interesting that you think otherwise though, I'd be keen to hear more why?

Because I see the schisms as evolution of faiths, driven either by self questioning believers like Martin Luther or by those with desire for power and it's subsequent rewards.

I'm not a fan of weaponising religion for war and power, but I see great things done with co-ordinated faith for communities. It depends who's leading the way and how convinced their followers are.

It is impossible IMO, to hold that Christians have the same God as Muslims or Jews. The consistent mentioning of this acceptance of monotheism somehow = the one true God after the explicit revelation of Christ to the world I think is a total contradiction because what I don’t hear in these analogies is the difference between an unknowing with a certain confusion due to the time in salvation history someone is living in or maybe a culture that comes to believe in one God through natural theology vs an explicit rejection of Christ therefore God. If the point is do they worship one God then okay, sure; but to say they worship our God? The Trinity in some confused way? While also rejecting Christ? This is not possible!

Within this discussion the idea often comes up that “well did Moses understand the Trinity?” as a defense of this position. We don’t know if he had a conception of Trinity in his earthly life so at best, we have an argument from silence or just no verdict but at the Transfiguration it is somewhat clear Moses endorses Christ. Again, not knowing clearly vs rejecting are totally different things. Christ's own words deny the multiple road pathway to God.

• John 14:6 Jesus saith to him: I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No man cometh to the Father, but by me.

• John 5:23 That all men may honour the Son, as they honour the Father. He who honoureth not the Son, honoureth not the Father, who hath sent him.

• 1 Timothy 2:5 For there is one God, and one mediator of God and men, the man Christ Jesus.

How can we possibly say we worship the same God as them when ours has made this impossible? Again, if we want to say monotheism, sure. To say they can worship the same God with us without the Trinity and Christ post revelation is simply false. My question to that would be what would it take besides a monotheistic belief to rationalize that a different group worships the same God as us? Or better framed, how much of the revelation we possess can someone reject yet still be right?

Muslims do not believe they worship the same God as us which just adds to the case that this position is untenable. Islam’s Quran opposes those “who say that God is the third of three” (5:73). A further passage declares that “we worship God alone; we ascribe no partner to Him, and none of us takes others beside God as lords” (3:64; similarly in 6:161-163). The Quran also says that God asked Jesus, “Did you say to people take me and my mother as two gods alongside God?” Jesus then denied this (5:116).

The Angelic Doctor has a great quote that I have seen, which I am sure many are familiar with, “On the contrary, he [Muhammad] perverts almost all the testimonies of the Old and New Testaments by making them into fabrications of his own, as can be seen by anyone who examines his law. It was, therefore, a shrewd decision on his part to forbid his followers to read the Old and New Testaments, lest these books convict him of falsity. It is thus clear that those who place any faith in his words believe foolishly.”

If we want to reject Christ’s teachings, Islam’s own teachings, Jewish beliefs, Aquinas and just basic common sense about the laws of non-contradiction and the impossibility of rejecting such a fundamental component of something while also claiming to accept it, then sure I guess you can say we worship the same God as Muslims and Jews. I reject that position as they reject Christ as Lord and God.

Jesus is demoted to a prophet in Islam rather than the son of god.

For me it hinges around the Trinity.
There's no way Islam or Judaism could accept Jesus or the Holy Spirit. That would be blasphemous, no?

I used to believe that as well, but once I started reading and hearing the way God is described in the Bible, and especially in the Gospels compared with the Koran, I began to see 2 very different persons being written about.

It might surprise you that not everyone has the same relationship with god, hence the schisms in every area of abrahamic faith.
Always remember that for a thousand years or so holy books have mainly been in the remit of men who understood the power of faith and fear.

Abraham is the accepted patriarch of Judaism, Christianity and Islam in that chronological order.

Judaism, Christianity & Islam all stem from Abraham the patriarch. It certainly is the same God.

Don't the Abhraham religions all have the same god?

It might seem the case but once you start comparing the way God is described in the Bible, especially God Incarnate Himself, Jesus Christ in the Gospels , with the Koranic version, you start to see that it's unlikely to be the same person at all.
I wouldn't expect anyone to take my word for it though, best look into for yourself!

No, different countries have different rules in accordance with their laws.

In the era of AI generated fake news, I’m not sure I trust certain sources. I’ve seen deep fake videos before and they are eerily realistic.

Of course it's not fake news, it's being widely reported across numerous trustworthy news outlets.

I wonder if it's because most Christians in Palestine are Catholic or Orthodox? There is a error in some of the more fundamentalist Protestant denominations that we Catholics are not true Christians, and I have even been accused by some of them (online-surprise, surprise!) of being a pagan because I "worship" Mary as a goddess and "worship" idols because we have holy artwork in our churches and homes. This error has become quite common in some of these denominations because of a book written by a man called Hislop, can't remember his first name. It's an extremely anti-Catholic manuscript by all accounts.
As the Orthodox also venerate Mary, honour the saints and have holy artwork I imagine the same false accusations are thrown at them as well ?!

They generally don't bother us because they're not sure what we are. They feel more confident attacking Roman Catholicism because it's western and they're more familiar with it.

Our Church wrote their Bible, so we don't pay any heed to what they say as they have no knowledge or understanding of Holy Orthodoxy. It's not something you can read and learn about from books, you have to live and be immersed in it to fully understand.

Thank you for this prayer, which I will try and memorise and God bless you.
@Coolpotatoface You're bang on the nail the lack of reporting by the MSM is anti-Christian bigotry. To this day, Christians are the most persecuted group globally and the Western media rarely report on it! I think we all know why!

"I thinking we all know why"

I don't. Why?

Agree.
There are not 100 people who legitimately hate the Catholic Church. But there are thousands that hate what they believe to be the Catholic Church.”
