And this is why the pro-Israelis are not coming here to denounce it. It’s a bloody disgrace, but they don’t want to admit that Israelis are capable of mindless violence against Christians as well as all those Palestinians squeezed into the Gaza strip. They can’t just stand and bleat about Hamas.

They are violent extremists, there's no bloody excuse for this behaviour across Israel. If the government wants them gone then nail their flag to the mast and say so. Otherwise clear up your homegrown mess

Jesus spoke Aramaic, so what did he call God? Apart from Abba, which is Father, but more of a Daddy implication. I remember being told by a theological teacher who had been to Israel, how she had been moved to hear a small boy call for help to his father, using the word "Abba". It gave her a new insight to the Lord's Prayer. We don't have a Bible using anything but our vernacular, in English speakers case a word derived from Anglo-Saxon pagans. French use Dieu. Why on earth would Arabic or Aramaic speakers not use their vernacular name for God?

And I am sorry to have used "not kosher" in this context, when what I meant was "not acceptable". I used it, as I sometimes do, jokingly, for anything which is rejected. Obviously here it was interpreted seriously, but did lead to useful information.

I agree. And I think there are lots of similarities in language across the 3 abrahamic religions because they are rooted in the same place with a lot of cultural mixing. Its why all this perception of the Jewish people as white europeans is so ridiculously wide of the mark. All 3 religions are rooted in the Middle East.

Jesus used the Aramaic word ABBA for father to address God.

The really sad thing is that the Holy Land might soon find itself without any Palestinian Christian presence. The Palestinian Christians originate from some of the earliest Christian communities and their presence in the Holy Land was a connection across time.

It’s a terrible time for all Palestinians but Christian Palestinians are more vulnerable as they are a minority group in Gaza and have been targeted and oppressed by Hamas as well as being targeted and oppressed by settlers in the West Bank.

ALL my Dad’s and Mum’s family and friends in Palestine and Iraq and Lebanon ( where he was exiled to) use Allah. Why would Arabs use the English word? Where are you getting your information from? You haven’t answered me regarding if you are an Arab.

Yes 'them' Seventh Day Adventists follow the guidelines set out in the Old Testament about clean and unclean meats which I think is what is meant by biblical (rather than rabbinical) kosher. As I said, not the same as Jewish kashrut but same origins and similar practice. I was trying to make sense of the pp's implication that there a kosher dimension to the attacks on Palestinian christians.

My Mum is a half Lebanese Catholic and uses "Allah". Although she doesn't generally speak Arabic as she doesn't remember much from childhood, my whole family use expressions in Arabic and one is "Allah!" like as an emotional expression - much like saying “Oh God!”

Thanks, my Christian friends in the Levant who speak Arabic also use Allah.

My friends in Syria in the last village to speak Aramaic also use Alaha or Elaha.

@BibiSuzanne calls god "Allah" because her dad did. No Christian denomination calls God "Allah". Jehova, Emanuel, God, Jesus, Christ, yes. Allah, no.

I did not say they keep kosher or halal. Just that they opt for the halal option.

We meaning Christian Arabs. I was raised Roman Catholic by my Palestinian father and Iraqi mother. Both sides of the family used Allah and Ya Rab for God. Are you an Arab? If so what word do you use?

I know what Allah means. It is not a name I associate with Christianity. Not the orthodox churches, not Catholicism and definitely not Protestants.

Christians in the ME may choose to not eat pork and opt for halal meat, that does not mean they keep Kosher or keep Halal.

Actually some Christians do adopt kosher eating guidelines, though I think with some variation from Jewish kosher rules. Christians were originally Jews, right? Seventh day adventists spring to mind but I think there are others. BibiSuzanne has put you straight on calling god allah.

We do call God Allah. It’s just the Arabic word for God. Some Christians, particularly orthodox Christians do not eat pork and opt for halal meat. If you research how orthodox Christians pray you will be surprised to see it is very similar to the way Muslims pray.
Christianity began in the Middle East and Islam adopted many Christian (and Jewish) customs.

Violent Jewish settlers are also being let off, scott free, when they commit crimes (assault, arson, murder) against Palestinians. Indeed the IDF back them.
