Israels plan for Gazas future

Defense Minister Israel Katz said Monday that he has instructed the IDF to prepare a plan to establish a "humanitarian city" on the ruins of Rafah, which would eventually house the entire population of the Gaza Strip.

According to Katz, the plan involves moving 600,000 Palestinians, primarily from the al-Muwasi area, into the new zone after security screening. Once inside, residents would not be allowed to leave, the defense minister said.

Katz added that, if conditions permit, construction of the "city" would begin during the 60-day Israel-Hamas cease-fire currently under negotiation.

Bingo.

Perhaps @HellsBalls because of international pressure. We’ve seen some of that. Just recently Netanyahu agreed with the EU to let in more aid…Why? Because the EU were about to have a get together to discuss increased sanctions. Or / and because Netanyahu can’t be seen outright to be doing what he plans to do. Slow and steady wins the race.

@MissyB1 ”Yes it is one of Israel's ways of killing off the civilian population, along with attacking hospitals, and arresting medics. If you make it as difficult as possible to survive by withdrawing the basics then more people die - I mean thats obvious isn't it!”

If this is the Israeli plan, along with carpet bombing refugee camps, along with the extermination camps and separating the men from the women and children (it’s almost as if someone has watched Shindler’s List), then why are they so bad at it?
Why has Israel only managed to kill about 30,000 Gazans from 2,000,000 when they are all grouped together? It’s been 2 years! What sort of a piss poor genocide is this?
It would be like shooting fish in a barrel, or as claimed to have happened, dropping 500lb bombs on tents. Is the IDF really so incompetent they can’t even get this genocide up and running? FFS IDF! What’s wrong with you?

Or, is there no genocide? No mass slaughtering civilians? No carpet bombing? No concentration camp?
Why are all Western governments including America still supporting Israel? Why will no one take Palestinian refugees?
Why are the protests ineffective?

Bingo.

PaxAeterna · 14/07/2025 21:22

@Martymcfly24 That’s an interesting theory. Very Trump style approach.

HellsBalls · 14/07/2025 21:16

@MissyB1 ”Or you could ask why has Israel killed an estimated 60 thousand people?”

The IDF haven’t killed any Hamas terrorists after 2 years?
They really are a lot worse at this war business than I thought.

PaxAeterna · 14/07/2025 21:04

@HellsBalls You can’t seem to get a grasp at what the legal argument for genocide is here. Which makes it difficult to have a conversation with you. You have a very repetitive argument.

I came across old footage the other day. I know you were concerned that refugee camps (specifically Jabalia) weren’t actually camp looking enough for you. And I thought to myself Hells would find this really reassuring; it doesn’t look like a town anymore.

Or you could ask why has Israel killed an estimated 60 thousand people? Not 30k as you incorrectly state, in fact many organisations suspect the number of dead will turn out to be far far higher, because of bodies buried under the rubble and difficulty in listing the missing in a war zone. Why have they destroyed nearly every single hospital in Gaza? Why have they bombed tented refugee camps - burning the occupants alive. Why have they decided to block food and medical aid? According to you they aren't trying to kill civilians so they cant possibly have done these things eh? Accept thetes plenty of evidence thst they have - as you well know.

Your last paragraph is an interesting and very relavent way of looking at it. He plans to develop Gaza for Israel and this method is a classic developer tactic.

I agree. My DH does a lot of work for Irish travellers and they absolutely love to think they have won a bargain so he will inflate the price and then they bargain him down to the price if should be .
Everyone is happy.

It's like they have a plan already and once there is enough condemnation(even the IDF military leaders are against this)of this plan they will release the watered down version.

Or it will be a case of you can leave now but if you stay you are going into the camp.

Edited to add no disrespect to any Irish travellers it's in the culture to haggle.

Agree. I find it a real weakness in the Israeli leadership that they think this plan is remotely workable.

Where is the long term plan, it's going to cost 4.5 billion to house the eventual full 2million population of Gaza. Gaza already had a very high population density in an even smaller area this is unimaginable without high rise buildings.

The international community cannot be expected to feed people indefinitely while Israel has rounded them up and caged them in.

I just find the whole thing bizarre. You would wonder if they are putting out an absolutely ridiculous solution so that the next one they come up with sounds more reasonable.

No they don't say that.
I can't imagine having strongly held opinions that I actually had to lie to perpetuate.
They said they are pressuring Hamas, which is exactly what I said they said.

Wrong. Netanyahus objective is to end the existence of Gaza and replace it with Israel. It has been for a long time. His methods so far are clear military methods to achieve that.

ForgesOfEmpires · 14/07/2025 18:55

itsagreayarea · 14/07/2025 18:23

How many deaths from starvation is acceptable @ForgesOfEmpires? Is 50-100 few to you? Do you know how many are in an acute state of malnutrition?

I never want to conflate the will of Israel with the policies of the current Israeli coalition government and its far-right supporters.

Their objective is to end Gaza. Of course starving its inhabitants is one of the objectives. They make no bones about it - they say it out loud with no fear. You are foolish to think they don’t benefit.

oh yes great idea. Maybe they could ask for their Hamas ID card on the way in? Or separate the men from the women?? That’s probably the way it will go. All the bleeding hearts will be on about it. But what’s a bit of international criticism.

It might help if you read posts.

I posted that Israel is doing it to pressure Hamas. Which is exactly what you've also said.

What I feel about starving children is irrelevant to the conversation but as you asked, I'd far rather no children starved. Actually when my kids were little I'd pack them extra lunch so the kids in their class without any could share. I always think practical help is more useful that public performance.

As for the children in Gaza, I'm sorry that some are hungry or even starving. I'm equally sorry for the tens of millions of children in the surrounding countries who are starving, particularly in Syria and Egypt where there is actually a far bigger problem, not that you'd notice.

I'm also deeply troubled by the 3 million children here in the UK who are malnourished.

I'm not responsible for any of that though, but in terms of Gaza, Hamas certainly is, so perhaps instead of insulting me and accusing me of not caring, you can redirect your ire at them.

I didn’t ask if you cared. I pointed out that just because children aren’t dying in large numbers now, it doesn’t mean that they won’t. I mention children because when adults start to die it is truly too late to prevent deaths on the grand scale it would take to satisfy you that this was all a plan.

Meanwhile, there is enough aid for months ready and waiting for the population but it’s being denied.

In Sudan and Yemen, there is actually widespread famine and starvation right now.

Are you as concerned for those countries citizens where the catastrophe is already happening, as for a catastrophe which has not happened and is very unlikely to?

Maybe Hamas should surrender or as they won’t, maybe the civilian population should be separated from Hamas so they are out of the crosshairs while the IDF finish off Hamas without more civilians getting killed, seeing as there, very unusually, doesn’t seem to be any other form of safe haven for them?

Yes of course. Only those with a truly black soul wouldn’t be concerned about people starving to death

The Israeli government themselves said that they use aid as a pressure lever on Hamas. So I guess that is the “benefit” or so they say. It is true for you to point out that it’s not the quickest way to take out a population .

There is little food, not no food. Although you are correct to point out that less than one hundred children under 5 have died (which is not enough for you to be concerned I know) children have started to become malnourished. This will slowly weaken their bodies, disease kills them first, things they may have recovered from before.

If nothing changes now, in a few months we are likely to see that children become acutely malnourished at which point it is difficult for them recover without medical help. So there will become a certain point where it becomes too late for these children. The ones who survive will forever feel the impact, it can affect their heath forever and impacts of their cognitive development. So that would be the logic behind urging aid to be delivered swiftly & in sufficient quantities BEFORE people are dying in large numbers. It will prevent a catastrophe.

How many would satisfy you? Would one be too few? Many children are dying from illnesses or wounds thry might have recovered from if they weren't malnourished, babies have been admitted to the hospital looking skeletal, British medics and medics from other Countries have testified to this. They have admitted them and tried to treat them. Why would they lie? And of course there's always the risk of getting shot by IDF snipers as you queue for food /water/medicines.... Again British medics have treated people this has happened to, usually children.
