Israels plan for Gazas future

Defense Minister Israel Katz said Monday that he has instructed the IDF to prepare a plan to establish a "humanitarian city" on the ruins of Rafah, which would eventually house the entire population of the Gaza Strip.

According to Katz, the plan involves moving 600,000 Palestinians, primarily from the al-Muwasi area, into the new zone after security screening. Once inside, residents would not be allowed to leave, the defense minister said.

Katz added that, if conditions permit, construction of the "city" would begin during the 60-day Israel-Hamas cease-fire currently under negotiation.

As I said, the damage is catastrophic , but it's completely false that 90% of Gaza is demolished. I appreciate the UNRWA statement was misleading

You did say it was catastrophic.
I don’t think I used data from UNWRA. That report is cited on the WB report.
92% of domestic houses are structurally uninhabitable, as per those definitions. It’s not a broken window or fence.
It doesn’t take into account whether they have access to water or electricity or amenities.

The data in the WB and UN reports only include building and civil infrastructure, the a significant proportion of the farm land is also destroyed witch itself constitutes a significant proportion of Gaza.

If 90% isn’t true, and 87% or 92% is true, Gaza is destroyed and this constitutes genocide.

I agree with @veiledsentiments,and I'm afraid I think that Israel's actions will fuel anti-semitism

Blaming Jews for antisemitism because of Israel’s actions is like blaming women for misogyny or Muslims for Islamophobia—it shifts responsibility from the bigot to the victim. Antisemitism isn’t “caused” by Israel.

There’s a brutal war in Ukraine, but no one is attacking Russians in the street. China, Sudan, Iran—many countries commit undisputed atrocities, yet their diasporas aren't harassed worldwide.

The truth is, Israel’s actions just give existing antisemites a convenient excuse. They don’t have to admit they hate Jews—they get to pretend it’s just about opposing Israel’s “unique evil.” It’s not outrage; it’s cover.

No, only hatred fuels antisemitism. Blaming Israel is an excuse and a cover. Its hardly as if antisemitism was invented in response to Netanyahu's government was it? Racists will always find a way to be racist and use any excuse to justify it. But its never justified. Why are you and others making excuses for racists?

What was the official percentage in the May report?

Martymcfly24 · 11/07/2025 23:53

@itsagreayarea that report is very damning. 29.9 billion dollars of damage in an impoverished country. Frightening

@ForgesOfEmpires I’m parking this WB report here re: destruction. The UN damages analysis is based on this.
I haven’t read it all. But see Annex 1 where it defines damage intensity classification. It includes:

  • Completely destroyed: When structural damage exceeds 40 percent of the original asset, the asset is considered 100 percent damaged and its full replacement cost is used. For example, the building has sustained significant structural damage, including collapsed walls, roof destruction, and foundational damage.
  • Partially damaged: For assets that have sustained damage of 20-40 percent, the calculation applies a 40 percent damage value to reflect partial loss.
  • Minimally damaged: If damage is minimal (10-20 percent damage), such as broken windows or doors,

The UN report I cited only included destroyed and partially damaged. So what you said here is not reflective, and minimises the damage.

To anyone on this thread worried that the destruction is being exaggerated. Have a little read. This is just the dwellings. Imagine living in an intact house in the middle of a flattened neighbourhood? No water. No electricity - no roads. No school to send your kids to.

Read the sections on education and projected social impact.

Gaza is destroyed and will take billions and decades to repair it.

Anyone who seeks to blame Jews globally for Bibi is an antisemite. So their antisemitism would be the actual problem. When people are racists it's really nothing to do with anyone but themselves.

Exactly. I'm certainly 'arsed' about racism.

No. I can’t. I think Bibi has created a whole load more problems globally for the Jewish people. And if you are trying to goad me so that you can then stand on your soap box and call me anti-semitic, then go ahead. I really CBA.

So just to recap: I made a minor error about the location where Hamas murdered children on October 7 - a horror that no one denies- and corrected it immediately. That was three days ago.

Meanwhile, someone else falsely claimed that 90% of Gaza’s homes have been demolished, which more than quadruples the actual number. Just a few hours ago, right here, that happened.

An honest mistake? I believe likely yes. The press coverage was misleading. But no retraction, no apology, and yet I’m the one being hounded thread to thread for ‘spreading propaganda’?

Your forensic concern for accuracy is seemingly highly selective.

You're not interested in setting the record straight- I did that nyself within moments of realising my mistake. You're interested discrediting me. And it is very bullying to target someone like that.

I think you are generalising my comments as I’m pro Palestinian and you are not. We can agree I think that mistakes just happen and are worth calling out. It’s got nothing to do with supporting Israel or not. It’s just human nature. No ones being a bully doing so. I’m done with this line of conversation for now though as I can’t explain more than I already have really

Did I actually say that Hamas were no longer a threat to Israel? I don’t think I did. I said that a whole load of other problems were now likely to come to Israels door, due to Bibi and his government’s disproportionate action against Palestine. You have to admit that the tide has turned against Bibi, and the IDF, and the Jewish Settlers, in the occupied West Bank. Is that the fault of every Jewish person in the world? Of course it bloody isn’t. Do I envisage hard times ahead for Jewish people because of Bibi and his government, then yes, I’m afraid I do.

You said I don’t believe that Hamas is Israels real problem anymore, no.
This suggests a. That Hamas was a 'real problem' for Israel. We can agree on that. 7th October was a genocidal attack on a huge scale that Hamas vowed to repeat over and over again. Hamas have a history of terrorism against Israelis and stated intention to kill Jews. b. that Hamas is no longer a 'real problem'. So what changed? You said you didnt know if they had been defeated? How are they no longer a problem then?
Now, in addition you are blaming the Israeli government for future actions by antisemites against Jewish people. Surely a person that attacks a Jewish person because of the actions of the Israeli government is simply an antisemite and wholly responsible for their actions? Or do you think such terrorism is justified?

I was just about to post this. Keeping in mind three things:

  1. Damaged can mean anything, from a broken window
  1. UNWRA is a completely unreliable source.
  1. UNOSAT (UN Satellite Centre) updates indicate approximately 66–69% have been damaged or destroyed, which is much more likely to be accurate

Still a very high % if true, but we won't know if it's true until later.

None of us mentioned these stories so why are you trying to score points by repeating these horrific, disgusting stories?

We are not responsible for what Trump says, he's a lunatic.

It wasn’t Trump this was in the early days It was Biden. He said it after a meeting with the IG / Netanyahu. He said he’d seen pictures and then the White House press office had to quickly correct his comment.

You seem to want to be called antisemitic. Are you? Because while you were previously talking about the threat to Israel from Hamas you now seem to be talking about the threat to Jewish people worldwide caused, apparently by Israel. How can it be Israel's fault if antisemites hold Jewish people responsible for the actions of Israel? Which would, of course be blatantly antisemitic? I was just trying to establish why you thought Hamas was no longer a threat to Israel.
