Whilst it’s not relevant to the thread. It’s clear from the links and hints on here ( and Thankyou to SharonEllis for that link and Veiled for spurring me on to understand more your comments and look back again over the history of Iranian politics ) that outside involvement in Countries is not received well and leads to extreme views. British involvement in Oil in Iran ( BP ) with the help of the US has done the country no favours. Ultimately it has led to uprisings and the want for self determination. Looking at the current Gaza war and the situation that Palestinians have had to live in prior to that surely we can all agree that countries should be allowed to rule themselves. Only then can peaceful consideration of laws deemed unacceptable by the rest of the world can be negotiated. The history of Iran shows what happens when other countries try to dominate the narrative.

You're not denying Iran is a repressive theocracy but apparently it's fine to hold it up as a pluralistic society with religious freedom.

You're not denying (any more) that Palestinian terrorists receive generous payments, but that's fine because it's like supporting the armed forces.

You're not denying that Hamas still pose a real threat to Israel but that's ok because you don’t care.

For those who might be tempted to believe that religious minorities are not actively persecuted by the state in Iran here is some information, alongside the persecution of women, political dissidents and lesbian and gay people. I didn’t say the Iran was a democracy. It’s a theocracy. Political dissent against the theocracy is not tolerated. I am not denying that fact. I am talking about state sponsored discrimination against religious minorities, which the IDF happily allow to go on in Israel, would not be tolerated in Iran. When Khomeni came to power he decreed that the Jewish people would be protected. Pity the Israelis can’t extend that to the Palestinians.

In Iran there are permanent seats for all the religious minorities, including Jews, in the Iranian parliament. The current representative of the Iranian Jewish community is a man called Homayoun Sameh Ya Najafabade.

If you want to discuss Middle Eastern pluralistic states then I would say Iran is more pluralistic than Israel. In Iran there is no discrimination based on religion whatsoever. The democracy in Iran was destroyed by the UK and America when they overthrew the democratic government and installed the Shah.

There’s been incredibly sparse reporting of the strikes in both the Jabalia and Shati refugee camps in the past two days. The footage is from Shati is on a Palestinian’s Instagram. I can see the same individuals helping retrieve bodies bombed buildings.
I can share footage, but it’s truly harrowing.

Israel is desperate to be seen as a democratic, pluralistic state by the rest of the world. Unfortunately Israel knows that the majority of the world is now seeing it for what it is, an apartheid state. There are only 3 ways in which Israel can achieve what it wants. A two state solution with Palestine, which they will never agree to. The second way is to go down the road of South Africa in 1994 and give all people democratic rights and citizenship, in other words a single state solution. They won’t agree to this as it would mean that Israel is no longer a primarily a Jewish state. The third option, to put it in the words of Bibi and his government is to “encourage voluntary emigration” of the Palestinian population.
I think we all know what this is called. Currently the option that they are taking.

So, Israel perfect? No, it most definitely isn’t.

@veiledsentiments you seem very unknowledgeable about the bigger picture and your approach seems to be to pick on examples here and there which you think are some sort of gotcha. Israel is not perfect. I have never said it was, how could it be? Show me a more pluralistic democratic state in the Middle East, then we can talk. In the meantime I recognise the position you are arguing from and I'm not interested in engaging there.

@SharonEllis and I believe there is currently a thread on this board about a Christian Church and village which has been burnt by the Jewish settlers in the West Bank. So not exactly religiously tolerant either.
