Israel is a country at war and I know many will have links or family in that country so I think it appropriate to wish them safety in the coming days.

Netanyahu is a hero.

I wonder how many Israelis agree with you.

Of course not all Israelis think the same, just as not all Palestinians do. But the outcomes speak for themselves. The policies of the Israeli government, supported by large segments of the public, have led to mass displacement, siege, and the deaths of thousands of Palestinians, including children. If there were truly widespread outrage within Israeli society over this treatment, we would see more meaningful opposition to it.

When I say “I wish for Israelis what they wish for Palestinians,” I am not referring to every individual’s personal feelings. I am speaking about the reality on the ground and the collective impact. The point is about accountability and empathy. If Israeli lives are valued, then Palestinian lives must be valued too. Equality is not too much to ask.

So what exactly is it you wish on Israelis then?

Kakeandkake · 17/06/2025 11:32

Netanyahu's reign of terror is precisely what we are all witnessing right now.

Netanyahu chose to act now because he's a sneaky snake who wants to take the attention off the genocide Israel is carrying out in Gaza. He was also losing support in Israel and has regained that since the attacks. The timing is politically motivated for Netanyahu's survival as PM.

I think you are wrong. Netanyahu is toast anyway after the Oct 7th terrorism on his watch. He knows it.
He’s taken the blame for Gaza, and he’ll take the blame for Iran.
Once both conflicts end, he’ll be out of office and the next government won’t need to come straight into a hot war.
Netanyahu is a hero.

Well, 2 different agencies with 2 different opinions. And even on conservative estimate, 3 years isn't long at all.

You think that's good odds for Israel to take?

You and I may differ on which we believe but its quite a risk isn't it?

Luckily I'm not in charge of making military, strategic decisions.

But I appreciate the importance of Never Again.

The only thing at risk was Netanyahus reign of terror. It's great that he recovered from his 'illness' just in time to save the world from Iran.

@dairydebris it won't let me quote you or add a link for some reason but yes the world isn't as simple is it. After 30 years of warnings from Israel that Iran were '3 years away from a nuclear weapons', guess what, Iran were still 3 years away from nuclear weapons and not even pursuing it. This is from an article today from CNN.

When Israel launched its series of strikes against Iran last week, it also issued a number of dire warnings about the country’s nuclear program, suggesting Iran was fast approaching a point of no return in its quest to obtain nuclear weapons and that the strikes were necessary to preempt that outcome.

But US intelligence assessments had reached a different conclusion – not only was Iran not actively pursuing a nuclear weapon, it was also up to three years away from being able to produce and deliver one to a target of its choosing, according to four people familiar with the assessment.

Not all Israelis "wish" the same thing for Palestinians.

It’s hard to watch the outrage over Israeli civilians being bombed when there has been so little sympathy shown for Palestinians, who have been bombed, starved, and ethnically cleansed for decades. The mainstream media rushes to show Israeli homes in ruins, interviews with traumatised citizens, and the human cost of attacks. Yet it rarely offers the same visibility to Palestinian suffering.

The suffering of Israelis is real. But so is the suffering of Palestinians, and it has been far more widespread and long lasting. The selective empathy by both the media and our politicians shows a stark hypocrisy.

I wish for Israelis only what they have wished for Palestinians. Nothing more, nothing less. And that is the heart of the issue. Because if Palestinians were treated with the same humanity and dignity that Israelis demand for themselves, we would not be in this situation.

Unfortunately complexity does very much matter.
I understand that people call it ‘genocide’ but it could also be framed as ‘Hamas not looking after its own’
When I watch news cameras in Gaza I don’t see a genocide. I see a warped government who cares about its religion over its people

Can’t you see it as both?

A similar sentiment was voiced by the people ripping down and defacing posters of the Bibas babies just after 7/10.

It’s interesting you say that, because framing global attention on Gaza as an “echo chamber” dismisses the core issue: the scale and nature of what’s happening there. The suffering of civilians — especially on that level — isn’t propaganda, and calling it that deflects from the reality on the ground. Recognizing mass displacement, destruction of infrastructure, and civilian casualties as signs of a humanitarian crisis isn’t about being “lefty” — it’s about being human.

Yes, the region is complex. Iran, Hezbollah, the risk of regional escalation — all of that matters and deserves serious discussion. But complexity shouldn’t be used as an excuse to sideline Gaza, or to pretend the world suddenly grew tired of paying attention because the story “lost its punch.” Maybe the problem isn’t too much focus on Gaza — maybe it’s that too many are uncomfortable with what the focus reveals.

Starving people, shooting starving people, bringing down the medical sysytem, killing aid workers, displacing pretty much an entire people and calling for their ethnic cleansing are still all bad things though, showing some aid workers in Israel isn't going to change people opinions on that. Nor is Israel bombing Iran.

You understand that right? You can't bomb your way into making people like you. I wish the Israeli government would get the memo on that one, it would save a hell of lot of lives across multiple countries including Israel.

Edited

It isn't Israel's objective to make people 'like' it, as you so niavely put it. It's Israels objective to keep it's own citizens safe. Which means taking out Hamas once and for all.

Strikes on Iran are part of the same goal. Iran is believed to have enough near weapons grade uranium to make 9 nuclear bombs, and has been clear about its wish to destroy Israel. You may not agree with it, but it makes sense.

The world isn't so simple as you'd like it to be im afraid.

Hmm, but you are not mentioning the Hamas charter. You are not mentioning that it’s rarely Israel who starts the kick offs.
As if Israel GAF about being ‘liked’. They just want to be left alone but Islamic a holes won’t afford them the peace they desire.
hamas are not exactly helping are they. Hamas woke a sleeping bear but it’s convenient to ignore that. Hamas the government that seems to care less about it’s citizens than Israel do

I actually think the conflict in the middle East has backfired if the intention was to have an echo chamber about the alleged genocide in Gaza. The conflict in the region has spread and there a multiple of discussions to be had including the proximity of Iran to developing a nuclear weapon.

There are huge cries from lefty types that coverage of a conflict of huge international significance involving Israel is now dominating the news. Maybe some want this site to once again be 'a look at Gaza' echo chamber when now we have obviously a lot more complex situation where Hamas propaganda has lost its punch.

There was piece on the BBC interviewing Israeli children who had lost their homes in Iranian attacks and their fortitude shone through. There will be no pieces in the Guardian highlighting destruction of Israeli property or how medical teams work tirelessly in Israel to treat the injured. Having to write about these situations would be to upset the Israel = bad narrative so many want to push despite Israel leading on preventing nuclear proliferation that could be a threat to the world at large. At least it seems the US has the moral courage to support Israel in these efforts when Israeli citizens have lost their lives for this cajse.

Well I am grateful that the BBC has access to the bombed out sites and can interview these children and verify what has happened to them. Good to see their voice is getting heard

Are you sleep walking through life or living in some kind of echo chamber? People are on to Israel now and it isn't going to change. Support for Israel is at an all time low. There is no 'silent majority' that pro Israel types like to speak of. Everybody knows what the Israel government is, some don't care but they still know even though they beat on about 'Hamas propaganda'.

These graphs on Israels favourability say it all, they can blow up as many people as they like at this point and that isn't going to change.

To wish those in Israel safety in these coming times

Israel is currently committing a genocide in Gaza. It has bombed Iranian nuclear facilities. It has bombed and invaded Lebanon, it has bombed and invaded Syria. It has bombed Yemen. During ceasefire talks it bombed the Hamas negotiator in Tehran. It has starved over 2 million people in Gaza. It has bombed every hospital, every school, every church, every home in Gaza. It has sniped CHILDREN in the head. It has razed Gaza to the ground. It has killed over 200 journalists in Gaza. It has killed thousands of medical workers. It has killed people waiting in line for aid. It has killed civilians in Lebanon, Syria, Yemen, Iran, Gaza, The West Bank. It continues to expand its settlements in the West Bank. Israel is not defending itself.

Calling people antisemitic for being against Israel’s actions is pathetic at this point.

It is not antisemitic to be that naive. Antisemitic undertones are seen in many posts, which, finds themselves deleted.

Well TBF most of the Israel haters/anti semites didn’t much care about the lives of Gazans under Hamas, the Lebanese under Hezbollah, the Yeminis or even the Iranians under the current regime before Oct 7th did they?

They only seem to care Israel when has had to defend themselves against them…………..

Edited

And how exactly would you know that? There wasn’t even a CITME board before October 7th, so let’s not pretend you had some deeper insight. Your “well, to be fair” comment just confirms what’s already obvious — you don’t actually care about Palestinians, Lebanese, or Iranians. Only Israeli lives seem to matter to you.

If you still believe this is purely about self-defense, I’d really urge you to take a step back and look at the broader picture. What we’re seeing — the scale of destruction, the displacement, the civilian toll — goes far beyond defense. At some point, it starts to resemble something much darker: the systematic removal of a people from their land.

Recognising that doesn’t mean rejecting one side’s right to safety. It means being honest about what’s actually happening — and who’s paying the price for it.
