To continue the discussion on this new aid system which has led to countless Palestinian deaths and injuries and labelled 'inhumane' by the UK government.

Of course they won't, they'll be under strict scrutiny, as will be Israel.

From who? Who guarantees that all those released terrorists dont regroup and rearm and attack again?

Not the only reason they dug tunnels. Hamas's intent has NEVER been purely defensive. They dug tunnels to facilitate smuggling ftom which they gain a huge amount of wealth; to smuggle weapons in undetected by Israel; to conceal command centres and hide weapons; to launch offensive attacks and provde a network of tunnels to hide hostages.

Indeed, they were useful in so many ways.

They dug the tunnels in Gaza because they knew that if Israel wanted to attack, the tunnels were the best way to defend themselves. Same with Hezbollah, tunnels and caves. Those tunnels were to help fight a defensive war. Viet Cong did it.

That's obvious: Hamas built tunnels to defend Hamas, not the Palestinian people, Hamas.

That didn't stop Hamas arming itself and digging in under Gaza for over the last couple of decades, it's why it's so difficult to get building supplies; they're repurposed for tunnel and weapon building.

What do you think has changed?

A 5 year truce is 5 years of no fighting. It's a good start. Certainly preferable to the situation today.

It wasnt an unconditional truce though was it? In exchange for releasing all Hamas prisoners, including convicted terrorists? Noone in their right mind would agree to that because there is no way Hamas would have honoured it.

usefulidiot39 · 12/06/2025 22:17

BigALittleABouncingB · 12/06/2025 22:13

A 5-year truce is 5 years for Hamas to regroup, rebuild, and rearm. That's not a long-term solution for the region.

Hamas also offered a 5 year truce in April this year.

Would any other country be expected to give aid to its enemy? Gaza clearly has enough resources for its almost constant rocket bombardment of Israel so it ought to sort out its own aid distribution.

Israel weren't expected to distribute aid. They banned everyone else from doing it though and they have responsibilities towards the people that they occupy. At least you are open about the fact that Palestinians are their 'enemy' not just Hamas, so many people pretend that this is all about Hamas despite all of the evidence to the contrary so kudos for the honesty.

And yes Ukraine gives aid to people they occupy as international law dictates.

Who is credibly offering Israel security and non-aggression?

Marwan Barghouti for a start. But he's in Jail.

It would be a first step in a process if there were a guarantee that it would be followed up with meaningful talks about resolving the conflict that has been going on for decades. That includes recognition of both Israel and a Palestinian state. Unfortunately the current Israeli government, despite being offered security and non-aggression if it goes back to its 1967 borders, is not interested in a Palestinian state.
And so the shitshow, as you accurately describe it, it will go on.

Apologies for the late response. Totally agree it wouldn't be a magic bullet, but I do see it as an essential first step in getting away from the current utter shitshow.
I find your username... intriguing.

Fgs Hamas should just surrender then all this can end. @dairydebris

The problems in the region go far, far deeper than just Hamas being in power. Removing Hamas is not the magic bullet that you hope it to be. There are many more issues to resolve including the establishment of a Palestinian state. Until there is a realistic chance of that happening, Israel is doomed to having to fight off stateless Palestinians.

The whole thing is an utter shambles and dangerous to boot.
The UN should have been allowed to do what they do best and distribute this aid fairly and quickly. Instead more Palestinians have been shot dead and more families ripped apart.

Inhumane describes it perfectly.

I couldn't agree more.

Apparently Hamas has murdered five Palestinian GHF workers and possibly kidnapped others. Given the way Sinwar and others have treated alleged collaborators in the past, I dread what might happen to any Palestinian GHF worker taken hostage.

Meanwhile, the GHF has already delivered millions of meals directly and for free to the people of Gaza.

Any more information on this? I saw that the GHF updated the figure to 8 dead and 21 wounded and said they were evacuated by the ICRC to Nasser hospital. However the ICRC have said they weren't involved and are currently working in a field hospital in Khan Younis, not the Nasser hospital.

There hasn't been much more information regarding this incident from the IDF or the Israeli government.

Whatsinanamehey · 12/06/2025 17:01

As I said earlier the GHF and IDF are giving out conflicting information on when their sites are operating.

The army has warned Palestinians not to approach routes leading to GHF sites between 6 p.m. and 6 a.m. local time, describing these roads as closed military zones. Still, GHF has indicated that its sites are open past those hours.

This was reported after more Palestinians were killed last night by IDF fire.

Well, the UK official statement is loud and clear. Inhumane is the description.
This is not a one politician statement, but their official statement on their website and the UN. What else should it say? UK officials are usually rather mild in their statements, but this one could not be clearer: inhumane.
Also (being selfish here sorry), but why should we in the West remain silent when IS and ISIS groups are being armed? We had terrorists attacks on our own soil. I think we have plenty of reasons to oppose such a thing ( which is the reason I am not quite getting what is happening in Syria....). And is this type of groups who are named as responsible for other conflicts, like Sudan and Congo. Lets not mention Afghanistan...........
