In response to these losses, Arab intelligence officials reported that thousands of new terrorists have joined the organization, though these recruits received only rudimentary training or basic instruction through informational materials on weapons handling and ambush tactics.

IDF says documents show Hamas has been confiscating aid as a matter of policy

Internal Hamas documents show the group has been “systematically exploiting” the entry of humanitarian aid into Gaza throughout the ongoing war in order to fund its terror activities, the Israel Defense Forces said on Thursday, citing captured papers.

The military said the group has done so by confiscating the aid itself; then giving some of it to fighters and selling some to civilians at exorbitant prices; by smuggling forbidden products such as cigarettes into the Strip and selling them at great cost; by demanding protection payments from Gazans living in areas under the group’s effective governing control; and through informal banking transfers, in coordination with Hamas representatives in Turkey.

The IDF released a document Thursday it said was drawn up by Hamas, indicating that the group has maintained a policy of confiscating 15%-25% of aid entering Gaza during the war in order to finance its operations and pay operatives.

“In the past Al Qassam [the Hamas military wing] took 25% of the aid that arrived,” according to the document. “It has been agreed with the brothers in Al Qassam that the percentages will be changed as such: 7% to Qassam, 4% to government entities, 4% to elements of the [Hamas] movement.”

The IDF said the document was part of a “wide range of intelligence information” that had been analyzed.

Agree @MushMonster . What I really fear is that we don't even know the full extent of the horror. No independent international journalists and now no Internet and we are not allowed to take Hamas's word as truth .

You really cannot make up the majority of shit happening in this conflict. It defies all sorts of logic and minimum dignity. It is, in fact, inhumane. That is the best way to describe it.
I am quite puzzled that UK has described it as so, officially. And really wondering what is going to happen next. If anything is going to ease and the multiple wars end. Or this is going to keep on for another 80 years.

That was what I couldn't understand about the idea behind the food packs. They would be ideal if the population were still housed but to a displaced population without clean water and cooking facilities it's ridiculous.

And now that they have no Internet there is no information able to be disseminated about open sites and open times so it's another disaster.

This genocide has opened up what Israel does to the Palestinians and many people are learning it started well before oct 7. Israel is looking increasingly toxic and their right wing government has done them absolutely no favours. Hamas are terrorists we know that, now we know Netanyahu and his cronies are diabolical. They built those tunnels so they could more safely attack, while their civilians died above.

Defence would have been building a successful economy and negotiating for a state of their own peacefully.
