The UK, France and Canada threaten Israel

Reported by the BBC this evening: Throughout the day, all eyes were on whether aid supplies already delivered near the main Gaza crossing would start being distributed among Gazans.

Late this evening, the World Food Programme said the movement of supplies was under way but that there'd been no aid distribution yet. Israel's military sent a late update that 100 trucks carrying flour, baby food and medical equipment had been transferred from Kerem Shalom crossing into Gaza.

That's very frightening because the odds are stacked against them now surviving even the simplest of illnesses and injuries due to malnutrition and lack of appropriate medical supplies .

It's a very different thing to say 14,000 babies in Gaza could die within 48 hours to saying the figure refers to the number of children at risk of “severe malnutrition” by March next year and The number is a projection and would not take into account any increase in the supply of aid between now and then.

That report is scary 71000 cases of acute malnutrition in children under 59 months in the next year.17,000 malnutrition in
pregnant and breastfeeding women.
There are massive long term implications of malnutrition in childhood that will last throughout their whole lives.

A widely reported claim that 14,000 babies in Gaza could die within 48 hours has been corrected by the UN, which says the figure refers to potential deaths over the next year.

The statement, aired on BBC Radio 4’s Today programme and repeated across national media and in Parliament, was later clarified by the BBC as a misrepresentation of a humanitarian report projecting malnutrition cases in children aged six month to five years over a 12-month period.

The UN's humanitarian chief Tom Fletcher claimed on Monday morning that thousands of babies could die in Gaza in the subsequent two days if Israel did not immediately let aid in, apparently based on a report by the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC) Partnership.

However, a look at the IPC report reveals that the figure refers to the number of children at risk of “severe malnutrition” by March next year, rather than by the end of the week. The number is a projection and would not take into account any increase in the supply of aid between now and then.

Later the same day, buried in a story about how aid in Gaza has yet to reach the population, BBC News issued a correction to Fletcher’s claim. A separate UN official also declined to repeat the claim and made the correction in a press briefing.

I wonder what will happen now. Between these the diplomats and the “warning shots” , the UN saying that 14,000 babies would die, and the rhetoric from Netanyahu and others. It seems countries will be forced to do something beyond mild actions and strong words.

Also this talk that Israel has plans to attack nuclear facilities in Iran.

No one can defend him. This goes far beyond stopping hamas. This is ethnic cleansing. Nothing else.

I thought it was quite clear personally. You think the Israeli government care about the people they are starving. You think the reason they are twatting about with aid is for 'safety'. If we discount everything Israeli government ministers have said about wanting to ethnically cleanse Gaza then your way of thinking may be plausible. Therefore it would work well for your argument if we all just ignored the multiple genocidal statements from the Israeli government. That isn't something I or many governments around the world are willing to do. When we hear someone say they want to commit ethnic cleansing and then they starve people of food and medicine we believe that they do in fact want to commit cleansing. The actions here show to most of us that they mean what they say.

I believe that he believes the IDF Soldiers are heroes. After all they are carrying out his wishes to starve and ethnically cleanse. Of course that would make them heroes to him.

I don't agree with his statement that it is moral to starve people either. It doesn't mean I don't think he means what he is saying.

Netanyahu has given a press conference this evening. As reported by Sky News:

"We will do whatever it takes to complete the war," he adds.
The Israeli prime minister suggests those who argue the war should end before Hamas has been defeated are proposing "madness".
Of criticism from the likes of the UK and France of Israel's continuing strikes and military activity in Gaza, Netanyahu says these same countries had previously encouraged Israel to "finish the war" in Gaza.
But he does suggest Israel will try to supply more aid.
