Gary Lineker - he really had to go and a warning t against virtue signalling

Maybe Gary Lineker's departure acts as a warning for this not acquainted with history to go around randomly reposting pro Palestinian links though I suspect he is not the only one. In a way it is a sad demise to a career but an absolutely necessary one and a timely warning that a proportion of P Palestinian supporters are anti semites.

for to say I didn't like the Gaurdian 's take that the BBC were looking to sack Gary anyway and he just have them an excuse.

Israel has the strongest military in the region. The idea that they absolutely must bomb every single building in Gaza, curtail people into a smaller areas using aid as leverage, kill tens of thousands and reoccupy the land all “for security” is mind blowing to me and pretty much everyone else at this point.

What do posters who support Israeli actions think of the latest statement by France and Germany? Or even the US keen for this to stop. Are you not a little worried that Israel stands alone in justifying what is happening? Does that not raise any questions at all in your head about their actions? Or is your faith in the Israeli government unshaken?

I also don't support the settlers or the new settlements.

Nevertheless, I do still support Israel overall. They were the ones attacked on October 7th and this triggered the current war.

@Prettyroses yes I do support Israel's current military action as I believe they have to destroy Hamas and if they don't do it now, Hamas will attack them again and again. It is their goal to destroy Israel as stated in their charter, “Israel will exist and will continue to exist until Islam will obliterate it, just as it obliterated others before it.”

So yes, I do support them over Hamas though I don't support everything Israel has done in this war, such as withdrawing aid as mentioned above.

You just don't support the withdrawal of aid but you support military actions that is killing thousands of Palestinians children as long as they have had a bite to eat before they do. Got it.

What about the constant theft of Palestinian land by settlers? 22 new settlements (aka theft of land) approved in the last 24 hours.

What about Netanyahu statement that Israel's goal is to wipe out all possibility of a Palestinian state (January)?

What else is it if Israel is stealing all Palestinian land and killing all Palestinians?

You know what I'm a fantasy world where Hamas had a nuclear weapon who can put their hands up and say they wouldn't hesitate for a second before dropping it on Tel Aviv? If Hamas were given the aircraft the Israelis has they wouldn't carpet Bonn Israeli towns? If the IDF didn't exist October 7th wouldn't have stopped at 1200 or even 120000.

Hamas literally exist to pursue a policy of the destruction of Israel and the eradication of Jews. It is genocide in a manifesto.

I can fully understand how Israel's security depends on the removal of Hamas and therefore support those goals.

But that is theoretical and won't ever happen. Whereas what Israel is doing is LITERALLY wiping out Palestine and the Palestinian people.

Quite right. Netanyahu had gone too far, and they brought it on themselves in any case.
There is no tune changing.
Israel wouldn’t have attacked if it weren’t for Oct 7th. Never forget that.

Did the thousands of dead Palestinian children bring it on themselves?

Odras · 31/05/2025 00:32

Well that is awful if somebody said the hostages deserved it. They clearly didn’t. And the people of Gaza don’t deserve this either. We all have a collective responsibility towards children as well, they are always innocent and should be protected.

What Hamas did was horrific but what does it say about Israel that they have sunk to same level of depravity?

@HellsBalls Brought it on themselves.

https://www.nytimes.com/2025/05/30/world/middleeast/gaza-children-hunger.html

Do you honestly look at these pictures and think these kids deserve their suffering? Are you a parent ?

I seem to remember having this conversation in November 23 about child hostages with people on here, when people were ripping down posters of the bibas children. They were somewhat partisan, the female hostages were all soldiers apparently.

If hamas returned the rest of the hostages and disarmed, there'd be more pressure within and without Israel to ceasefire and remove netanyahu from power.

They won’t agree to a temporary ceasefire that means Isreal can go back to decimating them in 60 days, which is understandable. Isreal needs to offer a permanent solution that offers genuine freedom for Palestinians. Until then, why would they agree to surrender?

They'd be crazy to trust that Netanyahu meant well - he's a fanatic. If he could keep his finger off the trigger for 30 days I'd be surprised. He's a piece of shit.

Prettyroses · 30/05/2025 19:22

HellsBalls · 30/05/2025 17:55

My few Jewish friends think Netanyahu has gone too far, but now the IDF has killed the last Hamas leaders based under the hospital and the aid is going back in, they just want the war to stop, but they want Hamas gone.
They can’t have it both ways if Hamas won’t surrender (they won’t, they are fanatics), and won’t agree to the proposed ceasefire.

HellsBalls · 30/05/2025 18:14

60 days of negotiations should at least bring a longer ceasefire, if not a permanent one. Israel will not continue to fight if Hamas have agreed to stop killing Jews.
The current status means Israel will keep going locations and killing Hamas.
Why should Israel stop when their enemy will not negotiate, will not hand over the hostages, will not stop trying to kill Jews? Israel’s first priority is the safety of their people.
It’s obvious Hamas does not have the same priorities.

But Israel has killed many many more Palestinians than vice versa. Do you think Israelis are fanatics too?

Yes but you said you hadn’t spoken to anyone who supports the Gazans and then describe your “few Jewish friends” who are all the other people who don’t support the Gazans and what part of the world are you from? Do you not get any unfiltered news at all?

Prettyroses · 30/05/2025 14:55

Twiglets1 · 30/05/2025 13:43

I don’t believe they are committed genocide at the moment. I believe they are trying to kill Hamas who have embedded themselves amongst civilians in the most disgusting way such as under hospitals.

There is of course a limit to the actions I support. For example, I didn’t support Israel blocking humanitarian aid and think they should have reinstated it much quicker than they did and made the aid hubs more accessible to everyone ( apart from Hamas).

Do you support Israel's current military action which has caused thousands of civilian deaths and casualties despite most EU countries calling it unacceptable?

CopperWhite · 30/05/2025 14:41

Gary will be fine. There is no demise to his career, he has plenty of opportunity. The BBC is not the only media outlet. He’s turning down offers because he’s popular, and no one with any sense believes he is anti semitic.

I admire him for standing up for what is right even though it brings him so much unfair criticism.

What more will it take for you to decide that maybe it is genocide? 100,000 dead - maybe 500,000 - maybe not one Palestinian left in Gaza? When do you think enough innocents have died?

I support Israel but my disgust lies with Hamas & their supporters not innocent Palestinian people who didn’t choose to get dragged into a war.
