Eurovision - was the jury vote impacted by politics?

I am not surprised that Israel won the public vote. The statistics suggest that a minority of people using all their votes for one song can make that song win.

It suggests that it is some pro-Israeli voters who live in an echo chamber and would support Israel in a public arena no matter what the IDF does.

Obviously a lot of people disagree with you hence the public view did not support your opinion.

This ‘genocide’ has been going on for how long now? How come there are still any Palestinians left? Israel are obviously crap at it but the Eurovision entry was a wonderful song sung beautifully. Yuval deserved to win, which she did in the public vote. Well done Israel!

I am not sure the statistics back up your idea that the huge public support means that Israel had the best song? We already knew factors beyond the song itself influences voting in Eurovision.

I am not even sure we can use the public vote as a measure of what the general public think of the song. The method of voting does not allow that.

If this can happen in Ireland - not surprising that a concerted effort to show Israeli support from a minority of people resulted in Israel winning public support.

I hope that Netanyahu privatises the Israeli public broadcaster KAN. We won’t then have to rely on the EBU doing the right thing when the world watches Israel laying siege on a group of people whilst taking part in a European singing contest.

I think the public voting system needs to change - people get 20 votes! With that number, it is possible to actively push one entry (eg Israel), whilst other people are just voting for the song they like best make just one vote. I think the vote would look very different if people just got to vote for the 1st, 2nd and 3rd choice - 3 votes only but weighted (eg 3 points for first choice, 1 point for third).

People started celebrating 7/10 whilst the attack was still ongoing. They celebrated this in the UK.

I saw this too. I saw several posts on Facebook telling people to vote for Israel, and one of the ones I saw encouraged repeated posting. The song wasn’t that great so I don’t think it was a case of juries voting against Israel but more likely the public deliberately voting for them.

The bit that really gets me from the stories of survivors is the amount of time they waited with no-one coming. In that sort of situation you would expect the police or army to rescue you and there was nothing. I’ve heard of so many of them hiding/avoiding the terrorists multiple times, running then finding what they thought was safety only to be found by more terrorists.

It was disgusting that in introducing Israel Graham Norton talked about how controversial they are and the protests but didn’t mention that she was a survivor of the nova massacre. Shameful. I’m delighted that she did so well and she and Jewish people feel the support they have

What ads? I watched it last night in the BBC - there were no ads. But Britain still gave Israel the most votes.

Because Israeli TV contribute to the costs. Same with Australia. The 5 counties that contribute the most (Spain, France, Germany, Italy and the UK) always get through to the final.

I think alot of people voted Israel because they felt sympathy for the Israeli singer facing hostility and because they are sick of the extreme elements of the pro Palestine supporters.

So people inevitably act what on advertisements tell them to do, and have no will of their own? Why would they do that if, as some groups tell us, 'everyone' opposes Israel?

People need to come to terms with the idea that public opinion shows varied public views, and these are not always what we are told by the media or certain groups are the 'right' views.

It’s Eurovision. Never been interested and no idea why Israel is included as they’re not in Europe (I’m sure there are other non-European countries, dunno) but I did vote for them 😀
