I agree ICJ that the way the war is being conducted does make genocide plausible concern. Now some are also concerned about ethic cleansing.

I meant that there must be continued support for Israel due to all the tribulations they are going through - even if when there is also disgust at what the IDF are doing. Not that these people are supporting Israel for what they are doing to Palestinians- if this is why you are surprised at my post. This would hardly be a conspiracy?

Ireland is overwhelmingly pro Palestine- that’s just a fact that can be confirmed by opinion polls. So why did the public seem to vote for Isreal? Well the statistics guy in the article explains it, and it has zip to do with media conspiracies or lasers.

It's not anti-Semitism to be against genocide. It's not anti Jewish state to say "Hey Israel, would you mind awfully stopping the mass murder of innocent children, and let aid agencies in to feed the children you're starving to death and treat the injuries you inflicted in them. Thanks!".

As an aside, I only know a few Jewish people here but none of them are uncritically supportive of the way that Isreal is conducting the war. There is a small % of the Irish non Jewish population that support Israel’s actions in Gaza. They are aligned to the far-right and are cosy with loyalists in the north who also overwhelmingly support Israeli military action.

Of course. It always is. Surely no-one was surprised when Ukraine won in '22? (The only surprise there was when France gave the Royaume Uni douze points. But maybe that was to ensure that the UK would come second and have to host the following year.)

There are approximately 3-4000 Jewish people in Ireland. Ireland has a population of 5.3 million. Are you saying only the Jewish people voted for Israel and no other Irish people voted at all for anyone?

Unless we see actual figures of how voting was done, the likely reason that Ireland gave 10 points towards Israel is not likely to be due to a change of heart of the Irish towards Israel.

I’ll let you google Irish polls on Israel if you want confirmation of how general Irish public views Israel.

Ireland is a good example because to its known strong pro-Palestinian support - it demonstrates how a minority can make a profound impact on outcome.
