It’s been widely reported.
Interesting how you can only remember it as an inspirational “anti racist “ speech .

Is that the wrong link? That doesn't say what he said about his former boss?

I didn't say his speech was a it racist either. I was saying what I remember him saying of his former boss.

You've heard it said about the patriarchy for instance though yeah and nobody thinks that means kill all men. Nobody is making that headline news because most people recognise that it can be said about taking down an organisation or a system. Like for instance the system of occupation and racial segregation that the young conscripts help to perpetuate.

Most commentators disagree with you.
I don’t recommend you use the chant on your next march unless you want to hear from the police.

What exactly did he say about his former boss, I can't find it now but you seem to know? My remembering is that he said he had a boss who used to speak about Israel all of the time, he implied that his boss was racist and said if I could get through that then you can get through shit too or something like that?

UK’s chief rabbi says Bob Vylan Glastonbury chant was ‘vile Jew-hatred’

Ephraim Mirvis condemns BBC’s live broadcast of the performance and says it is ‘a time of national shame’

Although I should add that the IDF chant was also vile . I’ve not heard those chants being used about any other country’s army .
I’ve no doubt there are some serious bad people in the IDF ( and I hope they are punished) but it’s worth remembering that many are very young conscripts who would haven’t chosen to be in the army and aren’t the ones responsible for the conflict.

Vylan didn’t just chant “Death to the IDF “
He also talked about his disgust at having to work with Jewish music executives who he described as “fucking Zionists” so I understand why the chief Rabbi considered his comments to be “vile Jew hatred”

He’s living in the UK.
It is not hypocritical for the UK chief Rabbi to focus on the welfare of British Jews
But that's not just what he did. He spoke of the vile jew hatred of Vylans chant about killing the IDF. That's a state military force currently committing war crimes. I have read many comments from Jewish people in the UK on this who are pretty unhappy that the IDF is being equated with Judaism. Absolutely agree with you if his focus was on the welfare of British jews but to me he seemed more concerned with the chant about the IDF.

It's plausible that the IDF could have thought killing a few journalists would be no bad thing if they are sympathetic to Hamas as most of them seem to be.

So posting the truth ("sympathetic to Hamas") is now a death sentence .

Fucking IDF .

Is it the truth to just repeat what Hamas says? Don’t you think Hamas lie too?

Your phrase “ his own brethren” is problematic. It suggests you see all Jews ( even those living in other countries) as responsible for what goes in in Israel .
Did you argue that British Imams should speak out and demand Hamas release the hostages? Why not?

And hypocritical not to speak up about the national outrage being caused by his own brethren.

And hypocritical not to speak up about the national outrage being caused by his own brethren.

Well the Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas only condemned Hamas’s October 7 attack for the first time in June 2025.

“What Hamas did in October 2023 in killing and taking civilians hostage is unacceptable and condemnable and Hamas must immediately release all hostages,” Abbas wrote in a letter to French President Emmanuel Macron and Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, who this month will co-chair a UN conference aimed at advancing a two-state solution.

While Abbas has long rejected violence as a means for advancing Palestinian self-determination, he has refrained from specifically publicly condemning Hamas’s actions on October 7, with at least one of his aides arguing that he wouldn’t do so while Israel’s wide-scale offensive in Gaza was ongoing.

But Abbas is also looking to gain support from the international community so that the PA can replace Hamas as the governing authority in Gaza.

We agree on the first point and I am aware you do not take the IDF as gospel or agree with everything they do.

However a professional army would have taken their target out in another place than a crowded cafe .Seeing the targeted operations they are capable of it is very conceivable that there was a double edged motivation to the attack.
Plus their track record with journalists also gives rise to the plausible speculation .

It's plausible that the IDF could have thought killing a few journalists would be no bad thing if they are sympathetic to Hamas as most of them seem to be.

But I think their main target would have been the son of a top Hamas commander as they have openly stated their goal to kill as many top Hamas people as possible.

Martymcfly24 · 01/07/2025 15:16

Twiglets1 · 01/07/2025 14:27

No the death of all those civilians were not worth killing one Hamas member for, in my opinion.

As you are aware since I have stated it many times, I don't agree with everything that the IDF does.

However, the explanation coming out of Israeli sources is a more rational reason for why they targeted that site. Your speculation makes them sound like cartoon villains wanting to hide their "evil plans" whereas the IDF is actually a professional army hunting down and killing Hamas members in particular Hamas commanders and their families.

It's notable by the way that the ones still alive tend to have based themselves outside Gaza.

Twiglets1 · 01/07/2025 14:57

Came across this while googling how many Hamas leaders the IDF have killed so far.

Unofficial IDF deck
As part of the Gaza war, an unofficial card deck of 54 wanted individuals were distributed to Israeli soldiers. The idea for the deck was inspired by the most-wanted Iraqi playing cards created by the Defense Intelligence Agency for identifying the top wanted members of Saddam Hussein's government during the 2003 invasion of Iraq. The history of making such cards dates back to the American Civil War.
More than 10,000 decks of the cards were distributed to Israeli soldiers to help the soldiers identify top Hamas targets and to unsettle Hamas officials. The hierarchy of various Hamas officials has been mixed around in the deck in order to attempt to embarrass more higher-ranking officials.
As of May 2025, 35 individuals from the list had been killed.

Israel is now well beyond hunting Hamas. They aren’t hunting Hamas when they fire on starving children looking for aid, or ambulance workers. Or a host of others. In terms of revenge, they’ve gone way beyond what nearly anyone would consider decent.

I agree that their response has become disproportionate.

I don't agree that they are well beyond hunting Hamas, though. They are still in the process of picking off Hamas leaders one by one and have succeeded in killing most of the top tier of leadership based in Gaza.

The chief rabbi has been commenting about our national shame. I don’t think that some of the remarks made at Glastonbury were all that bright, but this is what national shame looks like https://www.theguardian.com/world/2025/jul/01/gaza-israel-iran-war-idf?CMP=Share_iOSApp_Other

The terrible events in Gaza does not mean that people in the UK can’t deplore support for terrorism or criticise hate speech against Israelis.

They are unproven speculation by posters (including myself) not wrong. Just like posting what that IDF say is unproven speculation and not right or wrong.

Were the deaths of all those people worth getting one Hamas member (allegedly)?

Was that they only time that he could have been targeted or could they have picked a time when he wasn't surrounded by innocent civilians.

Did it need to be an airstrike knowing the amount that would be killed or could one of their snipers not taken him out.
Surely with the access to intelligence and arsenal they have they could do better than an airstrike im a crowded cafe to take out an individual.

Or was it a case of killing two birds with one stone. Journalists and Hamas member.

Just sharing the information I read about why the IDF targeted it because it appears that some of the theories being discussed were wrong.
