Anti Israel Rhetoric is rife. Why?

Many of the wars ongoing throughout the world are raging between peoples in poor, developing countries with non-democratic values who, to be blunt, many (usually xenophobic) people in developed democracies would write off as "they don't know any better; that's just their primitive culture".

Israel is a highly-developed, wealthy, modern, democratic western (politically and culturally, if not geographically) nation - and also a nuclear state. Basically, they are held to a much higher standard because of that.

Just like the outcry of disgust when the UK and USA (and others) start or react grossly disproportionately - such as the wars in Syria and Afghanistan. Many of us despise Blair, Bush and their ilk to this day because of it.

Also, I think it's very important to point out the difference between governments and leaders and the ordinary populations. Just like, in Russia, the thinking people blame and hate Putin and his henchmen, but don't apportion any kind of blame to Anna and Dmitri who are hard-working farmers making a living in their community in Rostov-on-Don.

If some people do start to conflate the governments making highly controversial choices with all of the everyday citizens, that may well indicate a racist and prejudiced mindset.

Indeed. Casual, and not so casual, anti-Semitism. Or better put: Jew hatred. A belief that he state of Israel should not exist - and the HAmas view that all Jews should be wiped from the earth.

I think that the anti-Semitism is just so endemic that people don't really see it.

Some say that It the death rate and the injury rate make it unique. Or that people are particularly horrified by the rate of child amputees which is the highest per capita in the world.

But I think it is mainly the links the western world has with Israel make us all complicit. Even here in Ireland, where there is government opposition to the war we still have many economic ties to Israel, weapons are flown there through our air space.

Isreal is committing atrocities but we are all splattered with blood due to our governments.

Israël is hugely successful from a fairly difficult start. ‘Palestine’, not so much.

After the horrific hostage release scenes, blaring music, huge banners, Hamas fighters, healthy looking cheering crowds, emaciated hostages, coffins containing dead children, a coffin with the wrong body in it...I find it totally perplexing that theres a significant number of people in the UK who are still happy to align themselves with that particular side.

Anti Israel rhetoric is rife because Hamas et al have really, really good PR and a lot of western Europeans feel colonial settler white guilt.

How do you feel about the ethnic cleansing of Jews from middle Eastern/North African countries that has occurred in history?

Taking out children too young to run away fast, yet too old to be carried.

Does it bother you that these atrocities are being witnessed by the whole world op?

I’m Jewish and tbh I’m not convinced that it’s all necessarily pure antisemitism (though of course, that’s some people’s motivation.” Israel v Palestine is well-publicised, it’s topical, it’s been going a long time, it’s an easy conflict to take sides in. People like an obvious underdog to pledge support to. Other conflicts in other places would require your average person on the street to actively educate themselves, learn and engage with the historical context, understand the nuances. In short, put a lot more effort into having an opinion if they want to come across credibly. Most people don’t want to do that - they just want an accessible cause they can tie their allegiance to. Writing “Free Palestine” all over social media is much more straightforward than trying to understand a lesser-known issue.

I don't see that the state of Israel is the only power waging a war that's being condemned. There have been deaths on both sides but Israel is trying to obliterate Palestinians out of existence.

Israel is a settler colony that annexed land that didn't belong to it in the first place. They've commited war crimes and murdered countless Palestinian men, women and children. Not to mention the suffering of those left behind.

I don't hate Jewish people or their religion and there are many people in the Jewish diaspora who also condemn the actions of Israel. I understand why Israel exists, but the memory of the Holocaust should not be used to justify a new genocide of Arab people.

That’s not true, there are a couple of churches in Gaza.

Ironically by denying the hatred for Jewish people using a term that’s imposed upon them, is deeply antisemitic - by which I mean the dictionary term.

Because it's happening close to home. Because it is being televised. Because it is part of a long term conflict.

Also because there is enough evidence for credible accusations of war crimes to be investigated. Because there is enough credible evidence for war crimes for arrest warrants to be issued for heads of state.

Because there are Israeli soldiers happily posting on social media about the war crimes they have committed!

Because representatives of the Israeli government, in public and in parliament support war crimes and talk about theur intention to commit them.

Because tens of thousands of men,women and children gave been killed and injured in a relatively small period of time

You may argue that there are other conflicts, but this is on a different scale and is much more public.

Try using a dictionary to look up the definition of "antisemitic", which is the term you used.

You must have missed the criticism of Russia's invasion of Ukraine. Putin is the devil incarnate just in case you missed it. Much easier to imply that any objection to the slaughter and starvation of noncombatants is motivated by antisemitism.
