Very interesting.

Doesn’t seem to have been reported in the Western MSM yet.

Any thoughts?

Exactly - Israeli officials according to your link didn’t think Hamas capable of carrying out a massacre. So how exactly does that prove Israel knew a massacre was about to happen?

what would have changed if SA had told Israel there is a terrorist attack quite likely going to happen if Israel knew already and they had dismiss it because they thought it wouldn’t happen.

I continue with a copy of what cnn says beses on nyt

The report says Israeli officials dismissed the plan as aspirational, and deemed it too complex for the group to carry out. Other outlets, including Israeli newspaper Haaretz, have also reported the claim

Offended by what exactly?

Offensive to suggest that the Israeli government would deliberately allow their own civilian population to be murdered by terrorists. That’s a horrible cynical accusation and just seems to be a wild attempt to make Israel “guilty” of being attacked.

Arayofcalm · 04/04/2025 13:24

Does anyone have a reputable link of what the OP has posted? I have looked everywhere and can't find anything, not even on Israeli news sites.

Suspicious activities close to the border is not the same as Israel knowing that a massacre was about to happen.

I find that suggestion offensive and I’m not even Jewish.

From the cnn link I posted above

”Israel’s Shin Bet security agency has said it “failed in its mission” to prevent Hamas’ October 7 attack by ignoring repeated warning signs.
Shin Bet’s chief, Ronen Bar, said in a statement that if Shin Bet had “acted differently in the years leading up to the attack and on the night of the attack (…) the massacre would have been prevented.”

he security agency received a sequence of signs that Hamas was preparing for an emergency, but decided the militant group were “not interested in escalation” and the plans were never perceived as an active threat, Shin Bet said.

That link only shows that mistakes were made not that Israel government knew a massacre was about to happen and chose to ignore it.

EasterIssland · 04/04/2025 13:23

From the other cnn link I’ve posted in this thread

But a report from the New York Times claimed Israel obtained Hamas’ plan for the attack more than a year in advance.

Twiglets1 · 04/04/2025 13:17

It has not been suggested by reputable sources that Israel knew a massacre was about to happen, only that they were ill prepared for the attack and mistakes were made.

Comment to @EasterIssland in response to their comment that “Israel knew and didn’t do anything”.

The surveillance soldiers gave plenty of warning of suspicious activities by Hamas close to the border days before the attack which was all ignored. Didn't Egypt also warn Netanyahu just a few days before the attack which he also ignored?

You don't think it matters if someone knows about a planned massacre and does nothing?

Absolutely, so I can't fathom why Israel ignored the warnings they were given!

EasterIssland · 04/04/2025 13:07

devourfeculence · 04/04/2025 13:05

So why do you keep saying it doesn't matter?

What would have changed if SA tried and do anything if the victim country Israel knew and didn’t do anything.

devourfeculence · 04/04/2025 13:05

EasterIssland · 04/04/2025 13:03

Of course I do. Israel knew. Why didn’t they do anything?

Wheras I'm sure all the social media accounts you regularly post are all completely accurate and unbiased.

No. I’ve had several deleted because people complained about the source. Since then I make sure I only post from few sources and I verify those that I don’t know. Seems like the source op has opened this thread with is

“we rate it “Mixed” for factual reporting due to poor sourcing practices, including a lack of external references and a few failed fact checks.”

Checking the source you’ve posted from, doesn’t look like it’s quite a good source

https://mediabiasfactcheck.com/independent-online-iol-bias/

but I stand myself not sure what would have changed SA knowing if Israels government / intelligence knew and they also financed Hamas and did nothing.

Israeli intelligence says they ignored the signs that were happening that an attack was imminent

https://amp.cnn.com/cnn/2025/03/04/middleeast/israel-shin-bet-october-7-fault-intl-latam

I’ll ask you again. Why does it matter if SA knew about a terrorist attack soon happening in Israel if 1. Israel was aware about it and ignored it. 2. Egypt was aware and had let Israel know (see point 1).

what would have changed SA knowing if the country that could have done something about it decided to do nothing?

also, about SA enabling Hamas … I suggest you search for qatargate and how netanhayu is involved and he’s firing people to save his arse.

You don't think it matters if someone knows about a planned massacre and does nothing?

Perhaps, but the brutality of the Oct 7 attacks on innocent civilians, might have lost them as much international sympathy as it gained them, I'd have thought.

It's really hard to see a sensible rationale for it.

I think you’re right that the October 7th attack lost them a lot of sympathy (as well as gaining them a lot of international attention to their cause).

But somehow Hamas lacked the empathy to foresee the horror that the international community would feel about innocent civilians being murdered at a music festival.

What I don't get is, Hamas's POV? Where's the win for them? They must have known all too predictably what would happen. In what sense could Oct 7 have ever left them in better shape?

They wanted worldwide recognition and sympathy for their cause, and more hatred of Israel. One could argue they've been successful as long as no one gives a shit about all the dead bodies.

I agree that is hard to understand how they could done what they did surely knowing that retaliation would be severe & that Israel could defeat them militarily.

From what I’ve read, they may have hoped & expected that other Muslim countries would join in the attack on Israel but they didn’t.

Doesn’t this, again if proven, discredit the ICC arrest warrants issued against Netanyahu and Gallant?

No, it doesn't but nice try. They lived their lives as war criminals, will die as war criminals and will always be known as despicable war criminals.

Also I believe @CrunchyKnees is mixing two things.

SA has requested to ICJ the investigation of genocide.

ICC which is a different entity is the ones that has set an arrest warrant against netanhayu for war criminal. SA is not involved in this.
