I think it's a real positive that brave Gazans are now protesting against Hamas openly demonstrating at least some of the population can see it is Hamas that has brought death and destruction to the enclave.

The irony is that war trodden Gazans are protesting in harsh conditions possibly risking death against Hamas while in your average 'Pro Palestine' March in London there are very limited signs with Hamas out. Should we start anti Hamas protests in the UK in solidarity with Gaza?

Long story short: nobody who genuinely supports Palestinian liberation has even the slightest issue with Palestinians protesting - against Hamas, against the PA/Fatah, against Israel and the occupation or, for all I care, against factory farming!

Self-determination, liberation, surely, means that Palestinians get to support and oppose whomever and whatever they like - like the rest of us, too! They should get to be leftists, rightists, neoliberals, islamists, ... you name it! That is what emancipation means! Palestinians are not a monolith!

But nobody who genuinely supports Palestinian liberation takes the position that Palestinians ought to be freed from, in this case, Hamas (alternatively: the PA) but should be happy about Israeli occupation either.

Simple as!

In this sense: I support the protesters! I also supported the protesters against Israel!

Looks like the Gazan protests may be over. Hamas are already cracking down on participants. It needs a ceasefire now to assert its authority.

This is horrendous. Too little focus on Hamas.

Fuck Hamas sensible folks were right all along

Why should Israel stop the war for a religious celebration for their enemy, when their enemy attacked and deliberately started this war on Simchat Torah which is day of celebration for Israelis? Were you outraged about that?

It is horrific and very sad if any children were killed or injured due to being put in danger or used as human shields by the scum which is Hamas, the other multiple terrorist groups, and their supporters.

Even sadder IMO is that those children would probably be alive if the protests and outrage around the world had been against Hamas for the barbaric atrocities they carried out which led to this war and to return the hostages. The only reason this war is dragging on is due them being bolstered and embolden by support they are receiving from Jew haters around the world. There’s no benefit to them
in surrendering and releasing all their leverage, and it’s absolutely in their interests for civilians, especially children, to continue to be killed.

Maybe the Gazans protesting against Hamas wouldn’t have lost their lives either.

That may not help but the reason the war is going on is because Netanyahu needs it to in order to stay in power.

All whilst Israel are murdering Palestinian children who are celebrating eid in their eid clothes. Killed in cold blood, they couldn't give them a break for one day could they. Scum!

Trigger warning
This is the aftermath of a strike in khan younis on Eid day. So many children dead on what is supposed to be the happiest day in the year for them.

To be fair @bumblingbovine49 the vast majority may still support Hamas for all we know so it's too soon to say that is a lie.

Most of us are just glad to see some protests from local people in Gaza against Hamas because we haven't seen it before - all we have seen up until very recently is them celebrating Hamas actions.

Twiglets1 · 30/03/2025 11:12

Martymcfly24 · 30/03/2025 10:19

To be fair this post completely demonstrates how desperate the situation is for civilians. There is no country in the whole world physically supporting them and every day is a danger from all sides.

Yes it does but @Whatsinanamehey posts links like this on every single thread about the conflict. We all acknowledge it is appalling what is happening to civilians, but this thread is trying to focus on a different angle which is the extreme bravery of Palestinians in Gaza for daring to revolt against Hamas and the hope that gives us that the Hamas position can be weakened from within.

They post link after link about IDF violence but nothing about Hamas violence, even when Hamas are attacking their own people.

That is so sad.

Any chance they might lose gheir gril.on their power and control and they are looking for a way of keeping hold and suppressing.

So sad. The protesters in Gaza are very brave.

bumblingbovine49 · 30/03/2025 10:45

The protest just gives lie to the claim that the bombing and indiscrimate killing of Palestinians is justified because the vast majority support Hamas .

I think that the majority of Palestinians are caught between a fear of Hamas and the fear of bombs raining down on them from Israel. That is an absolutely nightmarish situation to be in. I imagine the vast majority if Palestinians just want to live peaceful lives with the same rights as anyone else

As to saying ' how brave' the Palestinian protesters are - they are caught between Hamas and Israel. I imagine it is less about bravery and more about desperation.

I actually understand why Israel is doing what it is as it is in an incredibly difficult and dangerous situation but they are knowingly choosing to slaughter children and many innocent civilians as the price of Israeli safety. I'd have more time for Israeli leaders if they were honest about the fact rather than painting all Palestinians as Hamas sympathisers to justify their actions .

Thus, as a privileged, white liberal I continue to implore Israel to look for better solutions by protesting the bombing of Gaza whilst at the same time understanding that Israel is in a bind. I undertamd the peoblem for Israel but If we stop shining a light on what they are doing and stop trying to hold them to account, they may stop even trying to find a better solution than mass indicrimate murder of large numbers of Palestinians.

That is why I protest the bombings in Gaza

It doesn't completely do anything, because of the way it entirely ignores the topic of the thread and the recent developments. That poster really doesn't want people talking about Gazan resistance to Hamas, and what they do to Palestinians they don't like.

I would agree the situation is doubly desperate for civilians, of course. A post saying how awful it is for them caught between Hamas and ongoing Israeli bombing would've been fine.

Oh look, another post from you with nothing to say about Hamas, on a thread about Gazan civilians protesting them at great risk and after one has been tortured to death. The whatabouting is off the scale.

User37482 · 30/03/2025 10:16

Hamas started a war they couldn’t possibly win, they need to hand over everyone they have. The reality is they literally do not care about Palestinian lives at all. They could hand them over, disband, negotiate passage to Iran or wherever and Israel would have not a single reason to be bombing Gaza. Gazan’s have a right to freedom, safety and democracy, same as anyone else. I hope to god they get it.

What a desperate heartbreaking situation for Palestinian civilians. It's really caught between a rock and a hard place .

That poor man murdered and tortured for daring to try and trying to stand up to Hamas and their evil actions
8 children murdered in their tents by Israeli forces overnight on a day of celebration.

Surely the world has to start helping them. They are the pawn in the games

What a dreadful and heartbreaking position the Palestinians are in . Things will never improve for them while Hamas are still in control.
It’s a shame so many of the pro Palestinians were unable to see this earlier .

Martymcfly24 · 29/03/2025 15:27

Hopefully there will not be a backlash from Hamas because the protesters have nowhere to turn for support.

They’ve tortured and killed a 22yr old who was one of the leaders of the protests. His family have been out making statements demanding his murderers be brought to justice. I imagine there are more. I think thats kind of what has been missing from the conversation when people previously have said “well why don’t they rise up against Hamas”. Because this happens, Hamas are oppressors. I feel disgusted at anyone who supports them. They have form for disappearing people, journalists, activists etc. The people of Gaza have suffered enough, Hamas need to hand over the remaining hostages and disband and Israel needs to pull out.

Hamas agrees to Gaza ceasefire proposal

Hamas has agreed to a Gaza ceasefire proposal it received two days ago from mediators Egypt and Qatar, the Palestinian militant group’s chief said on Saturday.

On Thursday, security sources said that Egypt had received positive indications from Israel over a new ceasefire proposal that would include a transitional phase. The proposal suggests Hamas release five of the Israeli hostages it is holding each week, the sources said.

The Israeli prime minister’s office said it had held a series of consultations according to the proposal that was received from the mediators, and that Israel had conveyed to the mediators a counter-proposal in full coordination with the United States.
The prime minister’s office was asked if it had also agreed to the ceasefire proposal but it did not immediately respond.

Israeli media suggested Hamas needs the ceasefire for a few days to suppress rare anti-Hamas protests that have been held by Palestinians in the enclave this week.

With how many people the IDF are killing everyday.

Got to bring everything back to the idf. I guess most of us are happy that some brave Gazans are revolting against Hamas. Hence a thread about it. I mean without Hamas this particular conflict wouldn't have occurred, so hopefully with Israel attempting to rid hamas, and some gazans against them, it might happen

I think seeing the protests in both Israel and Palestine this week against the ruling factions is encouraging. Hopefully it means that there is an appetite in both areas to put aside violence and work towards a peaceful resolution.
