I think it's a real positive that brave Gazans are now protesting against Hamas openly demonstrating at least some of the population can see it is Hamas that has brought death and destruction to the enclave.

The irony is that war trodden Gazans are protesting in harsh conditions possibly risking death against Hamas while in your average 'Pro Palestine' March in London there are very limited signs with Hamas out. Should we start anti Hamas protests in the UK in solidarity with Gaza?

It’s just a poll @ComeAsYouAreAsAFriend

How you interpret the findings is up to you. I think it’s pretty obvious they are only saying they would leave Gaza due to the war not out of a free choice in the matter.

I don’t think saying “emigrating” gives an unrealistic view that they are doing it the way others might emigrate who aren’t living in a war zone.

Staggered to figure out where this stat is coming from? Around one million people in Gaza have been questioned on this? How? Genuinely interested to know

Of course one million people in Gaza have not been questioned on this @ComeAsYouAreAsAFriend The way polls work is a number of people in a population are questioned and then the numbers are extrapolated to provide an estimate for the whole population. Like you might see a poll suggesting x percentage of people in the UK want to buy an electric car in the next 5 years, for example. They haven't asked everyone, just a sample.

In the article it says, " A majority of 56% said they are not willing to emigrate, but a large minority of 43% say they are willing to emigrate from the Gaza Strip after the end of the war".

That suggests that of the roughly 2.2 million Palestinians currently living in Gaza, upwards of I million are now saying they want out".

( I shouldn't have used the word "fact" in the post you quoted as actually it is only an estimate from the poll so the actual percentage could be higher or lower).

Yes I understand how polls work the wording is very clunky and, unless I missed it, they have not stated how many people were actually polled so how many people are they basing their percentages on?
I also find their use of the word "emigrating" inaccurate and minimising the reality. It is forced displacement because their homeland has been made unliveable, emigrating suggests they have some choice in this. I agree with @Kindatired it is a PR exercise to lead people to believe Palestinians are supportive of Trump's plan.

The fact that around 1 million of Palestinians currently living in Gaza are now saying they want out of that war zone is perfectly understandable and I agree it doesn't mean they don't love their homeland. I think it's obvious to people reading the article that they are not choosing to leave it as such but rather choosing to leave the devastating situation they find themselves in as a result of the Israel government/IDF response to the Hamas massacre.

To protect your children is the first instinct of most parents. If your friends do end up leaving Gaza @Sleepinggreyhounds I hope they are able to return when the war is over and hopefully a more moderate government is in charge.

Yes forced displacement with no choice. Which as @Kindatired pointed out falls under the definition of genocide
Deliberately inflicting on the group conditions of life calculated to bring about its physical destruction in whole or in part” -

I hope whoever ends up settling on this land if the Palestinians are displaced will not have a day of happiness in their life

There is a method here.

Hamas are haemorrhaging support since the blockade as their people are obviously angry and they can't support themselves through stealing good and seeking it on to support its troops.

The plan is for private companies to distribute aid so preventing Hamas from using the food for profit or to severe it towards its supporters. Alternative means of food distribution may be the death knell of Hamas and it's implosion would obviously lead to ad different political situation in terms of peace. As has been said many times before there can be no peace with Hamas.

Hamas want to protect the current food distribution route through relief agencies which they have penetrated so are more than willing to allow scene of deprivation to 'escape' Gaza to pressure foreign governments to sustain the current model. Let's face it PR is their only weapon in this war.

I think a lot of Palestinians do want to leave as simply the prospects of a sustainable peace ever where their families are safe is as remote as ever. I think in the West we are being a bit arrogant denying them this desire to leave as it doesn't suit the agenda of Palestinian resistance from some quarters. We haven't been in a Palestians shoes so can't relate to the utter human desire for safety that must the prevalent.

Reconstruction fund declarations at the moment are simply political rhetoric alongside calls for a two state solution. The objective reality I think is that the moment has passed for state negotiations and massive reconstruction. The antagonism between the combatants is just too high.

A hope for an internal revolt against Hamas does seem to me the only possible viable route to some.ceasefire but there would need to be a new government that would stamp down on terrorism.

Thanks, the article did read like a propaganda piece.

The people I know in Gaza are busy fighting to survive to partake in any surveys. They're also weary of any International (EU) funded researchers due to the absolute failure of the International community. How do you even get a representative sample during a genocide.

Kindatired · 10/05/2025 23:26

Israeli government is ” Deliberately inflicting on the group conditions of life calculated to bring about its physical destruction in whole or in part” - one of the conditions of genocide.

Amazing to see how pollsters can carry out opinion polls but food aid is blocked. What’s surprising is that the number of people who would remain and be starved and bombed while living in tents with no water or sanitation.

The article is by Joel C Rosenberg, American Israeli Zionist and former associate of Mr Netanyahu. “Allarab”news isn’t really an Arab either- it’s Christian Zionist US registered , run by said Rosenberg in Israel, and it’s one of those murky little “not for profits” . No doubt the poll will undergo amplification in the usual way onward into more mainstream media to create an illusion of support for the Trump proposal to ethically cleanse Gaza and resettle. Most people would not stay in their house if it had no sewage, water and the structure was unsafe, but it couldn’t be considered as leaving voluntarily

With regards to those saying they want to leave - I have friends there who I am in touch with regularly. They are currently watching their three children (who haven't been to school in over 18 months and who are living in the ruins of their home) slowly starving. They are peace-loving professionals who have given up hope. They love Gaza and have roots there going back generations but would be in the 43% - not because they don't want to stay in their homeland but because they cannot believe they will be allowed to build a safe future for themselves in the short to medium term and they want to protect their children.

Flowers It’s so disgusting what is being done to the Palestinian people

It is entirely understandable. There does not seem to be any hope.

Intriguing new poll finds 48% of Gazans support anti-Hamas demonstrations — and 43% want to leave Gaza

Palestinian opposition to Hamas is growing sharply.
Nearly half of all Gazans — 48% — now support the anti-Hamas protests that are steadily gaining momentum and size in the Gaza Strip.
At the same time, Palestinian support for the Hamas invasion and slaughter of Israelis on October 7 is steadily declining.
In March 2024, 71% of Palestinians said Hamas’ decision to invade was the right one.
Today, that number has dropped to 50%, plunging 21 points over the past 14 months, according to an intriguing new poll released this week.
Among those who actually live in Gaza — those who have suffered the horrific consequences of the war — only 38% still support Hamas’ decision to attack Israel. By contrast, among those in the West Bank, support remains much higher at 59%.

NEARLY ONE MILLION GAZANS SAY THEY WANT TO LEAVE GAZA

What’s more, a massive number of Palestinians now want to leave Gaza in search of safety and opportunity far from the war-torn and devastated Strip.
“We asked the residents of the Gaza Strip about U.S. President Trump’s statements about the need to displace them in order to rebuild it, and whether they are ready to emigrate from the Strip after the end of the war,” the pollsters noted.
“A majority of 56% said they are not willing to emigrate, but a large minority of 43% say they are willing to emigrate from the Gaza Strip after the end of the war.”
That suggests that of the roughly 2.2 million Palestinians currently living in Gaza, upwards of 1 million are now saying they want out.

PALESTINIANS DEMAND MAHMOUD ABBAS RESIGN — AND SEE IRAN’S HELP AS HARMFUL

Opposition to the regime of Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas in the West Bank is sky-high.
Fully 81% of Palestinians say it’s time for Abbas to step down and are demanding his resignation.
Support for Iran among Palestinians is strikingly low, despite Iran’s strong financial and military support for Hamas.
“We asked the public about its assessment of Iran’s role in Palestine in light of what has been happening since October 7: is it a useful role or harmful to the Palestinian cause?” the pollster noted.
“A majority of 54% believes Iran’s role is harmful, while only 32% believe it is beneficial.”
These are among the encouraging findings of a new poll conducted by the credible and widely trusted Palestinian Center for Policy and Survey Research (PSR).
The poll was conducted in the West Bank and Gaza Strip between May 1 and 4.

If you can read it, this is an interesting Haaretz article about a Palestinian who now lives in the US, who is speaks vehemently against Hamas and all Jihad talk. He thinks armed struggle has not worked and is not the way forward.

Is Prominent Hamas Critic Ahmed Fouad Alkhatib a Palestinian Prophet, or a Voice in the Wind?
When Alkhatib, a Palestinian-American analyst who grew up in Gaza, slams what he calls the 'ruthless, fascist, Nazi' Hamas, or pro-Palestinian activists who glorify violence, he gets death threats and is called a 'Jew shill.' But he has plenty to say about 'war criminal' Netanyahu, too

CNN - Hamas executes Palestinians for looting as desperation grows under Israeli blockade

Hamas has executed six Palestinians in Gaza and shot 13 others in the legs for alleged looting, the militant group said in a statement, as desperation grows under a complete Israeli blockade that has now entered its third month.

In a statement issued Friday, Hamas said it would carry out more executions against “every criminal we can reach in the next two days.”

Since last week, armed gangs have increasingly taken to the streets of Gaza City, going after some of the remaining food supplies and challenging Hamas’ control of the territory, according to CNN journalists in Gaza. Hamas claims some of these “criminal gangs” are collaborating with Israel.

“A warning has been issued - those who ignore it bear full responsibility,” Hamas said in the statement.

Why not organise an anti-Hamas / pro-Palestinian march in solidarity with Palestinians?

Sleepinggreyhounds · 24/04/2025 23:14

There seems to be a real groundswell in incredibly brave Palestinians resisting Hamas. The International community and Israel needs to really put efforts into how these civilians can be supported and how there can be greater efforts to leverage the population away from Hamas. This needs a lasting ceasefire in place.

Yes, although you're more hopeful than me as I just read that and thought they'll take their rocket elsewhere and someone else will be in the firing line instead. An impossible situation.

I'm taking encouragement from the fact that more local Palestinians are seeing Hamas for who they are & feeling strong enough (though it's probably more a case of desperate enough) to stand up against them.

I hope one thing most people on these threads can agree on is that there can never be peace in Gaza while Hamas are in charge.

Agree they are very brave. Tbh I cannot imagine being as brave as them in their situation (though Hamas had put a target on the old man's back as you say by trying to use his home to launch rockets from).

I was so pleased to read that his family and neighbours came to his defence and although several people were injured after the Hamas gunmen opened fire, they did eventually drive them away from the old man's home.

Anti-Hamas protests on rise in Gaza as group's iron grip slips

"Out! Out! Out!"
The voice in the Telegram video is insistent. Loud. Sometimes musical.
And the message unambiguous.
"All of Hamas, out!"
On the streets of Gaza, more and more Palestinians are expressing open defiance against the armed group that's ruled the strip for almost 20 years.
Many hold Hamas responsible for plunging the tiny, impoverished territory into the worst crisis faced by Palestinians in more than 70 years.
"Deliver the message," another crowd chants, as it surges through Gaza's devastated streets: "Hamas is garbage."
"The world is deceived by the situation in the Gaza Strip," says Moumen al-Natour, a Gaza lawyer and former political prisoner who's long been a vocal critic of Hamas.
Speaking out is dangerous. Hamas has never tolerated dissent. Moumen seems undaunted, writing a furious column for the Washington Post at the end of March.
"To support Hamas is to be for Palestinian death," he wrote, "not Palestinian freedom".
Wasn't it dangerous to speak out in this way, I asked him.
"We need to take a risk and speak out," he replied without hesitation.
"I'm 30 years old. When Hamas took over, I was 11. What have I done with my life? My life has been wasted between war and escalating violence for nothing."
Since Hamas took control of Gaza in 2007 by violently ousting political rivals, a year after winning national elections, there have been three major wars with Israel and two smaller conflicts.
"Humanity demands that we raise our voices," al-Natour said, "despite suppression by Hamas".

Hamas warns those who 'spread chaos' after killing of its police officer

CAIRO, April 2 (Reuters) - A Gaza family's open admission this week that they killed an officer from the Hamas-run police force after they said a relative was shot dead has added to signs of popular dissent against the militant group after 18 months of war with Israel.

It drew a warning from the Hamas-run interior ministry that actions that undermined public order would not be tolerated.

But following protests against Hamas by hundreds of demonstrators in northern Gaza last month, the incident underscored the increasing willingness of some Gaza civilians to voice criticism or act against Hamas, which has run the Palestinian enclave since defeating the rival Fatah faction in 2007.

On Wednesday, hundreds of Palestinians also rallied in Beit Lahiya, in the northern Gaza Strip, chanting "Hamas out" and "Enough death" in renewed protests against the Islamist faction.

Residents were angered by new Israeli military evacuation orders, which the military said followed rocket salvoes by militants from the area.
They may have been emboldened to take the streets by a sharply reduced presence of Hamas police and security forces in the past weeks since Israel's large-scale attacks have resumed, after a surge during a ceasefire in January.

The pockets of anti-Hamas sentiment were highlighted by the video of the street killing of the police officer going viral on social media. It showed him being shot in the head and then sprayed with bullets from an assault rifle as other men urged on the family members.

Hamas started this. All blood is on its hands. War is awful. Hamas reaps what it sows. It should now give in and hand back hostages and bodies. Also Hamas is illegal in the UK , a banned terrorist organisation so I hope the UK authorities are working hard to root out Hamas supporters living in our midst.

Do you really think anything is justified?

Well given that Niyak Ghorbani was arrested by the Met Police and assaulted by pro Palestinian protesters simply for stating that "Hamas is terrorist " (sic) then I wouldn't hold out much hope of either the Police cracking down on pro Hamas sentiment or on any pro Palestinian protesters in the West expressing support for the anti Hamas protests in Gaza or publicly condemning Hamas at any of the protests in London.
