@TwigletsAndRadishes , firstly one has to confront the elephant in the room which is that Palestine as a state is a deeply contentious issue. Then I think we must address what ‘Palestine’ wishes to be freed from. Then and this is vital we must have an answer to the question of the commitment of the interested parties to find and live in a lasting and harmonious peace. The freedom of all the people of that area will never come until peace matters more than hatred.

Have you ever read the book "I am Pilgrim" . It is not about Palestine but Afghanistan (I think).

And as for your settlements comment, there wouldn’t even be any settlements there today if the Palestinian leadership had accepted any of the amazing peace offers to partition the land presented to them in the last few decades. You reap what you sow.

Then what happens @Azureshores suddenly Israel grow a conscience and stop killing Palestinians, they stop putting Palestinians including children in administrative detention, they return the West Bank to Palestinians and stop their occupation, they stop the collective punishment of Palestinians in Gaza, they stop controlling Palestinians water supplies etc etc? Or Hamas return the hostages and Israel go back to the status quo of killing Palestinians quietly instead of with the world watching?

Of course hostages should be released but stupid statements like all they need to do is hand back the hostages like that will fix everything rather than just fix things for Israel are growing real old.

So when this country comes into being-the “Free Palestine” you speak of-will it be a truly free, democratic, pluralistic, liberal country, or will it only be a country that’s just “free” of Jews?

Lets be honest here, it they meant Free Gaza and the West Bank they wouldn’t be saying Free Palestine which refers to the geographical region which encompasses Israel.

Israelis seem to be pretty free within Israel so I don’t thing it means them. They’re just at risk of being torn to pieces like in Ramallah in 2000, or taken hostage if they step into Gaza, like the two young men recently released who were held hostage for 10 years. There are even warning signs instructing Israelis not to enter which I found pretty shocking.

The Ask Project series of videos on YouTube where Palestinians in the West Bsnk and Israelis in Israel were interviewed for their views on a two state solution is eye opening I have to say, although unsurprising.

I would urge anyone interested in what the question in the OP means to Palestinians themselves to watch it.

Basically my view as well, as a Jewish person. Palestine recognised as a country, with its own government.

I don't see it as meaning the destruction of Israel, although doubtless some will use it that way. I don't find the use of it threatening.

If Netanyahu cared about the hostages he would have negotiated to Phase 2 in which the remaining hostages would have been released instead of resuming the killing.
This is why the hostages families are protesting against the actions.

Anyone who thinks that dismantling Israel and ethnically cleaning Israelis is ok is not someone's opinion I would listen too. I'm sure they exist, but best ignored.

However I do note it is acceptable on Mumsnet to not give the same respect to Palestinians, many agree openly with Trump's plan, many say that Palestinians can't be trusted with a state and that a two state solution will not work, that a ceasefire will not work etc.
Even the concept of a Free Palestine on this thread has been denigrated as a souundbite by "useful idiots".
