Conflict in the Middle East

Are Hamas as thick as they are evil?!

After seeing masked, uniformed well-fed Hamas soldiers humiliating emaciated hostages, does anyone even feel a shred of sympathy for them?

Can’t they even understand how bad this looks and what the consequences will be both for themselves and, more importantly, for the rest of the Palestinians?

It would be hard for them to be as thick as they are evil, because they are extremely evil, but I think they might have achieved it…

Many thousands of Palestinians are held by Israel on administrative detention without any trial and have not been convicted of anything

That still doesn't make them hostages.

DeffoNeedANameChange · 09/02/2025 15:22

I'm not really sure what you're expecting from Hamas here. It's a terror group made up largely of very young men with, at best, very insular education.

Hamas state very clearly that they hate all Jews, and want to eradicate them from the area. They're not going "off brand" or slipping up somehow by publicly showing how badly they've treated these hostages. They violently murdered these men's families. This shouldn't be new information to anyone.

When you say this, you are pretending that conflict has not been continued, well, continuously, from Hamas and its predecessors. You are talking as if peace was achieved on the Palestinian side but then mean old Israel kept being nasty.

This is not what has happened. Hamas started firing rockets into Israel almost immediately after Israel withdrew from Gaza. They did not use the withdrawal, to proceed to peaceful co-existence. Yes, there is going to be high security from Israel from a very real continuous threat. How could you expect otherwise?

The only reason that Hamas have not killed more Israeli's is because they lack the armaments to do so. The only reason why so many Palestinians have lost their lives is because Israel does have those armaments. Nobody, but nobody, has ever negotiated peace down the barrel of a gun

No. The reason Hamas have not killed more Israelis is because the Israeli government has invested in the Iron Dome to protect its citizens. The reason Palestinians have lost their lives is because Hamas continue in a conflict they can never win, and have not invested in protecting their citizens, and even when they do build something they could use to protect their citizens, such as the extensive tunnel system, , they do not let civilians shelter in it but preserve if for Hamas only. And the issue public statements about how they glory in the death of their citizens in a conflict they provoked.

Hamas do not want peace. They want the complete removal of Jews and the destruction of Israel.

Agree. Hamas are a tragedy for Gazans.

Because hostages and prisoners are different things, captured/arrested in different ways and held under different legal/illegal frameworks. Many of the Palestinians have been convicted of crimes. All of the hostages were entirely innocent civilians captured only as bargaining chips & to exert psychological torture on Israelis. Taking hostages is defined and illegal under international law.

How. Many. Times. Do we go over this?

It’s because there are far more Palestinians in captivity than Israelis, this is never mentioned in western media. You might also ask why Israelis are ‘hostages’ whilst Palestinians are always ‘prisoners’.

Nelson Mandela was once thought of as a terrorist. I don’t condone what the IRA did but can understand the anger at the English deciding where to put a boarder in Ireland in the 20th century. I hate Hamas but have huge sympathy for the fact the Palestinians have been treated disgracefully by most of the western world.

^This. Palestine had no part in WW2. Why was it considered legitimate to just take their homeland from them?

SharonEllis · 09/02/2025 14:45

Who said they were angels?

So basically you rely on semantics? You said it was disgusting to compare the ANC to Hamas - both "mainly kill civilians" as do most terrorists so it is a valid comparison. So you think there is a good side who are allowed to kill innocent people and a bad side who aren't? When you pick up a gun your intend to kill people, not have a discussion. That is true of Hamas and it is true of the Israeli government. Trying to tie knots in truth to make one side better than the other is futile. The only reason that Hamas have not killed more Israeli's is because they lack the armaments to do so. The only reason why so many Palestinians have lost their lives is because Israel does have those armaments. Nobody, but nobody, has ever negotiated peace down the barrel of a gun.

I’m certain you would NOT hold this skewed sickening stance on Palestinians if Hamas were the group you relied on to be protecting your children from Israeli terror

This is laughably arse forwards.

Hamas protecting civilians?! By glorying in them being killed in a war they provoked? By refusing to let them into the tunnels Hamas are hiding from the bombs in? By murdering any opposition from their own civilians? By killing gay people?

One of the things I have discovered by doing my research (instead of relying on the media) in the last couple of years, is that the Iranian Revolutionary Guard used to clear minefields by chaining children together and forcing them to walk across at gunpoint. Hamas regards children in exactly the same way as their puppetmasters.

Can someone explain to me why Hamas hands over 3 or 4 hostages, and in return they get over a hundred Palestinians?

You really need to learn more about the ANC and their methods. They were not angels. Just one example:
https://omalley.nelsonmandela.org/index.php/site/q/03lv02424/04lv02730/05lv02918/06lv02938.htm

Terrorists who "win" can re-write their history. It doesn't mean that that history should be forgotten.

Mandela was involved in sabotage of infrastructure not attacking innocent civilians on a large scale, like the IRA or Hamas. To equate Hamas with the ANC is pretty disgusting.

The O'Malley Archives is the product of almost two decades of research and includes analyses, chronologies, historical documents, and interviews from the apartheid and post-apartheid eras

They aren't being obliterated, there is massive population growth. Why don't you look up how the population has increased over the decades?

The people are Gaza are not being served by a dictatorship which takes the billlions of aid they receive and spend it on tunnels and arms and starting wars they can never win (and where they don't let their own civilians shelter in the tunnels from the bombs Hamas provokes on them by starting wars).
