well he also want's canada, greenland and the panama canal.
so clearing out 2.4 million people temporarily to indonesia while the area is redeveloped sounds easy.

letsallchant · 26/01/2025 17:00

Just thinking back to all the folk saying pre election that they simply couldn't vote for either Biden the genocide supporter or Harris as his sidekick in office, cos their moral code would not be persuaded that either were better than Trump. 'They're all the same!' OK.

and some land ready for the beachside apartments..

Hmm, 25 miles of beach front.

Compared to 372 miles of beach front in the Sinai peninsula, on 2 different seas (the Med and the Red Sea) and with much nicer dive resorts.

Remind me why Israel want Gaza so much more than they wanted Sinai again?

@statsfun

Back in 2024: "Jared Kushner has praised the “very valuable” potential of Gaza’s “waterfront property” and suggested Israel should remove civilians while it “cleans up” the strip...“It’s a little bit of an unfortunate situation there, but from Israel’s perspective I would do my best to move the people out and then clean it up,” Kushner said.

And here is Trump trying to do just what his son in law stated openly. He's a real estate developer after all.

Jared Kushner says Gaza’s ‘waterfront property could be very valuable’

Donald Trump’s son-in-law also says Israel should bulldoze an area of the Negev desert and move Palestinians there

I don't think it's the worst suggestion as it would lead to increased peace and security in the region. Having Palestinians under different authority would stop organisations like Hamas taking hols with their murderous ideology. If enough can be offered to Egypt and Jordan maybe they would acquiesce?

If Hamas remain in charge and there is no country willing to invest in Gazan reconstruction then maybe this is the only realistic option?
I

If Hamas remain in charge then there seems to be only the path of eventual war again and that why Trump has given Israel the 2000 pound bombs.....

Hamas have dismissed this out of hand. The issue they have is that they've inhabited this land for thousands of years and will not not be kicked out to allow Israeli expansion.

Do you believe this to be unreasonable?

statsfun · 26/01/2025 16:52

Have to say, I think this is very like Trump's idea of injecting bleach to stop covid. Ie completely batshit, and showing a lack of even surface understanding.

I really can't see either Egypt or Jordan taking Palestinians. Egypt built a bloody great wall to make sure it's border with Gaza wouldn't be breached last year.

Although the US could apply significant pressure, since both countries receive huge amounts of US aid.

No surprise there. Apparently there's oil off the Gaza strip. Drill baby drill....

Thanks @statsfun!
Lets not forget PLO situation in Kuwait as well

Would you be able to expand a bit on "did not go well '?

Genuine, not goady.

Jordan gave citizenship to Palestinians who moved to Jordan.

In return, the PLO tried to overthrow Jordan's monarchy and take over Jordan for themselves.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_September

After Black September, Jordan threw the Palestinian terrorists out of Jordan.

They relocated to Lebanon, and destabilised it, causing the Lebanese civil war which lasted 15 years, and caused 150,000 casualties and 1 million refugees.

Yassnass145 · 26/01/2025 15:42

America and Israel started this war to remove Palestinians from Gaza. It is their end game. To extract the oil there and take the land.

Ooh, 141 square miles of extra land!! And 2 tiny oil fields!

Of course that's Israel's aim.

Kinda strange that they negotiated to return the 23,000 square mile Sinai to Egypt in return for peace in 1979. 163 times as much land as the Gaza strip.

But I'm sure that the Gazan land is much more than 163 times as valuable per square metre as the Sinai.

Or maybe, just maybe, Israel just wants people to stop trying to annihilate it. And Egypt has kept its side of the bargain.

They won't take them. Some already did before and unfortunately it did not go well.
Jordanand surrounding countries are just now helping Syrians return. They are at capacity really

No surprise there. Apparently there's oil off the Gaza strip. Drill baby drill....

Did you bother to look into this at all, before repeating it? Or was 'it's all about the oil' combined with 'everyone knows Israel...' just too tempting?

Gaza is 25 miles long, and has a correspondingly tiny slice of 'Exclusive Economic Zone' in the sea off Gaza.

There are 2 very small oil fields in Gaza's zone: Marine 1 and 2. They're much, much smaller than the oil fields much further north, off Israel's coast between Tel Aviv and Haifa. And really not worth any kind of conflict, although the income could have helped the Palestinians.

In June 2023, the US had brokered a deal between Israel, Egypt and the Palestinian Authority for the PA to develop Gaza's 2 oil fields. Hamas was to get a share of the profit, which everyone agreed they would have the right to decide how to invest "to develop the economic and political situations for their people". Israel agreed to that, having received strong guarantees from Egypt that Hamas wouldn't use its share of the gas revenues to develop its weapons, and that Hamas were ready to sign a long-term truce with Israel.

Well, we all know what happened next. Just 4 months later, Hamas committed the October 7th atrocities.

The Gazan oil field development obviously stopped.

American proposal to clear out Gaza
Daftasabroom · 26/01/2025 15:47

@mids2019 I don't think it's the worst suggestion as it would lead to increased peace and security in the region.

When did forcibly removing 1.5m people from their homes, their land, where they have lived for generations and handing over their property, livelihoods, hopes, ever (ever, even once) lead to increased peace???

(Sadly I think it's inevitable, but I very much doubt it will lead to peace)

So what you’re suggesting is ethnic cleansing so there is peace?

I agree they won't want Palestinian refugees. The last time in ended badly for Jordan, with them having to deal with the problems. They want to have a repeat by allowing people which Will include terrorists and supporters of terrorists into their relatively stable countries.

mumtumfun · 26/01/2025 12:58

Hmmm

Corrupt president wants to do morally repugnant things to people in Gaza (ie expelling them) who he supported being bombed into oblivion.

This was always part of the plan to cleanse gazans of their homeland

Daftasabroom · 26/01/2025 12:55

Whatsinanamehey · 26/01/2025 12:37

Its open season on Palestinians. Trump can suggest all he wants, doesn't mean its going to happen.

I'm really pessimistic. Gaza has been effectively leveled. The West Bank is seeing increasing settler violence against the incumbent Palestinians.

Israel will never offer the Palestinians any kind of acceptable two state solution.

Israel doesn't want a two state solution. With US backing and tacit support from the western countries momentum is building for a greater Israel.

With, Russia, Taiwan, Korea etc this really feels like a major shift in geopolitics.

OP posts:
gloriagloria · 26/01/2025 12:41

It’s not likely to make Palestinians feel more confident about the ceasefire and where it might lead. And @mids2019 it would not make the region more peaceful- just change the geographical focus slightly and drag in other countries.

Justcallmebebes · 26/01/2025 12:33

He's suggesting Egypt, Jordan and other Arab nations take in more Palestinian refugees whilst gaza is rebuilt. Who rebuilds it and who benefits from the rebuilt nation, is less clear

BelleHathor · 26/01/2025 12:32

Another indication that Trump has again staffed his administration with idiots who have no idea of the geopolitical reality today.

Similar to his "I'll end the Ukraine war on day 1" (which has now grown to 100 days) statement this will be fruitless.

The Egyptians, Jordanians and other countries in the region know that any displacement will be used by the Israeli government in the future to "invade" their countries to deal with any "threat".

If Trump wishes to push this through, the Palestinians should be allowed to migrate to America, after all it was their weapons that caused the destruction. I'm sure his base will fully support that!
