Are we surprised? I mean this happened multiple times last time. I do wonder if the media will report.

No, the thread is about whether Israel has broken the ceasefire, so the facts relate to the definition of a ceasefire and the definition of breaking a ceasefire. The WB was not included in the ceasefire agreement.

I admire your tenacity.

The minor violations are a pattern of provocation by IDF.

They just did this to Lebanon. Hezbollah has restrained from retaliating to what were over 500 ceasefire violations and counting by IDF. They’re being logged and legal action is being filed by Lebanon against Israel.

But the impunity Israel has enjoyed means they can cut and paste this to Gaza.

Gaza is 90% levelled anyway, this is good time for them to move troops to the West Bank. The comments by Trump and his UN ambassador imply that the Gaza “temporary pause” (as the ceasefire is being reported in US media), was bought from Netanyahu by promising him US support to annex the West Bank.

If we want the Palestinians to get any justice, Europe is going to have to stand up to the US.

Personally I think its not that the parties in charge don't believe that Israel haven't broken the ceasefire by shooting a child dead it's that if the ceasefire doesn't hold then Israel will kill on average 67 children each and every day. Do you rock the boat and say something and accept that if the ceasefire breaks down then the mass killings will start again? Or do you accept that Israel are going to shoot people here and there to maintain a level of fear and control over Palestinians but that is better than the alternative?

Like @SugarandSpiceandAllThingsNaice nobody truly believes executing children is ok during a ceasefire, you know that, I know that, the dogs in the street know that. But some people, for political reasons or perhaps because although they know executing children at any time but especially during a ceasefire is wrong they just don't really care, will pretend that it's just fine.

I'm just sad that even in a ceasefire Palestinians can't feel safe, I suppose it's just like life preconflict for them really isn't it except this time they are doing it with no homes, no schools, no healthcare and sadly for some no family.

The video of the child shot is from Gaza, not the WB.
It’s been verified by Sky (US intelligence) and Al Jazeera’s fact checking unit.

You are failing to grasp that a ceasefire is an agreement between the two warring parties. Its not up to anyone else & you can't just make it so because you want yet another go at Israel.

Oh please, no ceasefire ever is going to have a clause saying, we the undersigned agree to cease fire except for when our snipers feel like doing target practice on children. This isn’t having a go at Israel, it’s 100% clear that shooting children when you’ve agreed to a ceasefire is going to be a violation/breaking of whatever ceasefire agreement is in place. And actually, international monitors CAN also decide when a ceasefire has been broken. It’s not only up to the parties that have signed it.

Facts and reality? Which ones of those are we working with tonight? The where Gaza isn't under occupation and there is no apartheid in the West bank? Or the one Israel draws out in animations to justify bombing hospitals? It gets really confusing around here sometimes.

You are completely missing the point. You can't just make up the terms of a ceasefire and then try and emotionally manipulate people because you've been called out. Its a matter of facts and reality. That doesn't stop anyone caring about someone being killed, you just cant twist tnat into being a breach of the ceasefire just because you want it to be.

IDF could do ANYTHING, shoot ANYONE and the same people will pop up on here and say it’s fake news…. No wonder they’ve got away with a genocide

Exactly !!!

I posted all the time on instragram

I shared videos from journalists on the ground and my Jewish friends now no longer speak to me

They are brainwashed

These poor innocent people I can not believe what has happened in Gaza

And I am not anti semetic to say this

Sorry for caring about the killing of kids and for wanting traumatised people for to feel safe in a ceasefire. I didn't realise that was so controversial Sharon.

That could have been filmed at anytime, looks like propaganda to me.

Sorry is this a joke?

Are you serious??

Lonelycrab · 21/01/2025 22:07

So it seems there has been more extremist settler attacks in the West Bank, emboldened by Trumps inauguration. 8 killed, all enabled and supported by the IDF.

They are reporting that Israel killed a child after the ceasefire. The fact that Israel can carry on killing children with no repercussions even after the ceasefire I think leaves questions to be answered.

How can Palestinians feel safe if 'acting suspicious' is enough to get you killed on the spot? What does that look like, 'acting suspicious'? Executing traumatised children at a time they are supposed to feel safe isn't right and people need to speak up and hold Israel to account so maybe in future they will do better.

Or we could all just brush it under the mountain of a carpet with everything else until next time.

@NoisyBear No mainstream media or 'respectable newspapers,' that I can see are reporting that Israel has broken the ceasefire.

A belief is based on what you have been told and what you personally hold as true. A belief doesn’t need to be supported with factual evidence for it to exist. Your beliefs are your own.

You can attempt to influence, but I ultimately have the choice to follow.

I like to do my own research on social media and do some fact-checking.

Conspiracy theories, on the other hand, are ‘the belief that some secret but influential organisation is responsible for an event or phenomenon’.

If I believed that, I would have made that statement. I did not make that statement, so that isn’t my belief but your interpretation of what I said.

I don’t want to change your viewpoint.

Like I said you do you. If you want to spend your time 'researching' stories that are featured in multiple respected newspapers on social media the home of fake news then that's just great. Berating others for not doing the same as you, as you did earlier, is off though imo.

GentleScroller · 21/01/2025 20:20

I don't agree really. You are getting into the realms of conspiracy theories when you don't believe what is reported in several mainstream newspapers.

Its not up to randoms on the internet to decide that a ceasefire has been broken. Thats not how it works. This ceasefire, like most ceasefires is a formal agreement, with terms agreed by both parties. Noone but the signatories to the deal can decide that the ceasefire is broken.

I understand international reporters are not allowed to report from the ground, but you can’t deny that misinformation is constantly posted on social media and filtered through public discourse.

Documenting events through a digital trace using open-source investigation techniques is very easy. Why? Because it is the correct way to analyse visual evidence forensically, as reported by civilians. But at the same time, this digital data must be fact-checked.

Regurgitating and circulating unverified reports regarding one of the most sensitive conflicts is reckless, especially at this time. Please don't take my word for it. Ask a journalist.

Question: What's the desired outcome of your actions?

Anyone who shares data on social media should ensure what they present is correct ‘beyond a reasonable doubt’.

People’s willingness to believe what they read or see because of preconceived notions has been far too prevalent in this conflict.

Taking what we see at face value is dangerous. Sometimes, we need to step back and check our own biases.

EasterIssland · 21/01/2025 17:08

not sure what idf are trying to achieve. A child was killed as well in West Bank and today 8 people have been killed. I do hope for the sake of the Palestinians and Israeli citizens that the ceasefire is permanent. Tho I’ve 0 hope.

i bet when Hamas fires rockets at Israel(hopefully not but I’ve 0 hope about this as well) and media will go nuts and say “see we couldn’t trust them”. Whilst in the meantime idf has been killing Palestinians

GentleScroller · 21/01/2025 17:02

OK you do that. You can wait for weeks to comment on stories in the mainstream news if you like but it's odd to expect everyone else to and berating them for not doing so.

And yes, I will agree that news outlets have struggled to report on the full horrors of what has happened given Israels killing of journalists and banning of International journalists. It's a shame that Israel have tried to enforce a media blackout and continues to impede independent investigations.

So your laughing was a mistake that you are apologising for because you didn't read the full thread, all of 5 posts including the op?

The only person that seemed joyful to me was the one posting laughing emojis.
