Which is terrible no argument about it. The IDF forced the Palestinians to leave their homes and go to areas where they told them that they and their children would be safe and then repeatedly bombed them and murdered them there in the thousands.
Both sides have valid reasons to mistrust.

The peaceniks on the border invited Palestinians into their homes and gave them employment. The Palestinians who they had invited into their homes to work then gave information to Hamas to attack them, murdering entire families, raping women, and taking hostages.

If we are going by numbers, then Palestinians have for more reason to not trust the Israeli government when entire bloodlines have been murdered.

Not to mention that the pro peace Israelis living near the border had employed Palestinians who used that access to help Hamas attack them. Their trust was completely betrayed.

Who are you directing these questions at? Most people on here are aware that Hamas are a terrorist organisation. I am not sure why you'd think anyone would be swayed by what is or isn't in their charter. They have made no secret of it. Looking for peace in Gaza and supporting an independent Palestinian state does not mean you are supportive of Hamas or supportive of their actions.

They want all their hostages back, understandably and don't trust Hamas.

Israel could have had many more of the hostages back 15 months ago, had they chosen to negotiate. Instead they opted for a vengeful and brutal retaliation, that apart from death, destruction and misery for tens of thousands, has achieved little or nothing and unless the root causes of this conflict are addressed, Hezbollah, Hamas or some iteration of those, will rise again.

I wonder how many people have actually read the charter or understand that the more recent charter, which is less overtly antisemitic, does not supersede the original.

The children singing and dancing even though they have lost everything and are still in flimsy tents, was very moving. They just want to live.

There are no “winners”. The Palestinian civilians have suffered horrendously, the true death toll will be far higher than current estimations. Whole families wiped out, many thousands of orphans (many of whom have lost limbs as well as their parents). No schools or hospitals left. Babies being frozen to death or starved to death.

Israeli families still without their loved ones, no one knows how many hostages are still alive. And Israel’s reputation tarnished for decades to come I suspect. Some of the Israeli Government may end up in court trials for war crimes.

We don’t need to worry about who is claiming a “win”. Let’s just pray the ceasefire happens, and that it holds.

You've only got read the Hamas Charter to know this will never end in peace.

No sorry I can’t agree. This very specific war was created on October 7th when Hamas entered Israel and killed people and took hostages. Israel then unleashed retribution to a level the world has probably never seen.

We aren’t talking in historical context. This specific war was started by Hamas. I underline the word started.

Yea you can argue they were oppressed etc, but the current conflict was specifically created by Hamas and their actions on Oct 7.

Hamas needs to be gone.

Most agree with that but 15 months of war has not achieved that so continuing with the assault on Gaza is fruitless, a hostage release deal is the best option for the surviving hostages and their families and for innocent civilians in Gaza.

Considering the polls showing so many many Palestinians still support Hamas, I fear this will not be the end.

Hamas needs to be gone.
