Hamas and Gaza celebrates

Hillel Nueur, International human rights lawyer, writer, Executive Director of United Nations Watch writes: 'Never before in history has a side claimed that they suffered a genocide and at the same time that they won the war they had started.'

If you read only a handful of messages on social media today and watch the news, people in Gaza are celebrating and Hamas state they will continue (their barbarity) until Israel is eradicated. I won't repost these as anyone can find them easily.

No they haven't. Read their Charter (2017) They want the elimination of the Zionist state aka Israel and death to all Jews.

Can you quote where this is on the charter please? I just read the 2017 Charter and did not find anything about death to all Jews. Article 16 states that the struggle is not against Jews as a religion, but the Zionist entity.
Daniella Weiss on the other hand stated she wants rid of the Palestinians and they have lost the right to live there (in recent times Gaza, their home). Why is she and her party not a proscribed terrorist group? And she's certainly not on her own with these ideas.

Too many people posting here haven't a clue about Arab terrorism that takes place frequently in Israel. Hamas destroyed any hope of peace by their actions on 7/10/23.

What makes you say that? Because we don't think that that justifies an illegal blockade, locking up children indefinitely and sexually abusing them, locking up adults indefinitely or without a fair trial and torturing and sexually abusing them, apartheid, occupation, burning down villages, restricting access to education, healthcare, water and all of this was prior to Oct 7. We don't need to mention the many violent acts that have taken place since then.

Halbiiamz · 19/01/2025 20:33

Israel has only ever acted defensively...they would like to live in peace...the borders and restrictions are there to keep Israeli's ( Arab/ Jewish and Christian) safe. When you have suicide bombers coming over your borders and blowing up buses and restaurants what are they supposed to do? Have you ever heard of a Jewish suicide bomber? This hate is generally all one way....there were many peace initiatives that held a lot of hope before Oct last year. It's going to take years to get back to that place.

Well yes, most Israeli's are peace loving! The settler violence should be dealt with in the strongest manner. The divide of the land after may be more complicated... But I think resolution can be found🙏

So why have these peace loving people ignored the fact that their country is an illegal occupier that has people living under illegal blockade and under apartheid, the opposite of something peace lovers would want? That doesn't seem very peaceful. Are they all in the West Bank now protecting the settlers victims to ensure that peace reigns?

Maybe they are peace loving like you say but there is a heck of a lot of turning backs on violent, illegal behaviour and pretending that it isn't happening.

LetThereBeLove · 19/01/2025 22:05

argyllherewecome · 19/01/2025 20:02

So they have accepted a two state solution. There is no need to accept legitimacy of any occupying force, they are two separate issues. In fact it's a massive compromise on their side to agree to the former. There's nothing confusing about it. I might accept that you forced me out of my house, but I will never accept that it is legitimately yours.

You think Hamas doesn't want a Palestinian state? Why would they not?

SpunkyCritic · 19/01/2025 21:58

@argyllherewecome It is 100% up to Israel to make amends because they are the aggressor.

I can't, I just can't...

Halbiiamz · 19/01/2025 21:58

NoisyBear · 19/01/2025 21:31

This is a wild take. Chill, peace loving settlers burning down villages. All one way 🙄

Oh I see you aren't talking about settler violence? Why? Palestinians can't ignore it so why do you?

.You are essentially saying that Israelis are peace loving except the ones that arent. Bearing in mind 10% of Israelis are settlers of one brand or another.

Sadly I believe a 2 SS is even less likely now.
Precisely what Hamas wanted.

Except now the Israelis look unreasonable for many civilians not wanting it. Tbh, I can't blame them.

immigrant101 · 19/01/2025 21:52

@Halbiiamz not sure why my message was deleted Exactly but i see you don't want to take into account settler violence ? Why is that ? They are a minority while all palestinians are extremist right?

SpunkyCritic · 19/01/2025 21:49

SharonEllis · 19/01/2025 20:07

When did Hamas agree to two states? What significant 2 state proposals have Israel repeatedly blocked?

As a pp has said the last charter is ambiguous and does not give up the concept of Palestine from the river to the sea. Summary here https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/2017_Hamas_charter

And they have done nothing to clarify that ambiguity.

Why is it up to Israel to make amends when they have been repeatedly attacked, by terrorists internally and by external attacks? Surely all sides have amends to make?

Exactly.

Palestinians even rejected the 2 SS that would have given them 75-80% of the land.

Where does Egypt fit into this? Gaza also has a border there.

Israel left. Gaza 20 yrs ago. You can't blame everything on that. Or the British.
Jews were attacked in the Hebron Massacre in the 1920s before Israel was even formed for instance.

NoisyBear · 19/01/2025 21:31

Halbiiamz · 19/01/2025 21:07

They were attacked in the most horrendous way possible and they defended their people. I was more talking about historically though.... Israeli's generally are chill and want to live in peace. The attacking in peace time is all one way. Compared to the videos from Gaza where you have little children so indoctrinated with hate....that is not normal ....love your children more than hate towards others. ( I'm not talking about settler violence here which is awful and should be prosecuted)

And how do you explain the decades of systematic abuse, torture and murder? Young children playing in the street who are shot at by military vehicles? Constantly repeating certain (false) statements does not make them true, nor does it convince people.

mollyfolk · 19/01/2025 21:22

@OpheliaWasntMad

The suggestion above is that Hamas is an inevitable response to Israeli injustices. I don’t agree. I think that’s propaganda. Hamas is funded by Iran. There are many other Islamist groups throughout Middle East and Africa. Israel is not responsible for Hamas - but it is threatened by Hamas.

Iran are taking advantage of the situation but this type of terrorism does grow in response to injustice. If they lived in a free and just society, well how many terrorists would they recruit? Not to forget that it also suited Netanyahu to prop up Hamas, which he did for a long time.

To you want me to share quotes by elected officials of the democratic state of israel ?
The argument "but hamas" does not stand . Hamas are terrorist why should we judge israel the same way as we judge terrorists ?
Have you seen the state of palestinian prisoners ? They are very clearly being tortured by our "ally" state

I think you’ll fine the use of dumb bombs by the Israeli army far more lethal than suicide bombers. Have you seen the images of how the Israeli army has left Gaza?

https://www.theguardian.com/world/2025/jan/18/a-visual-guide-to-the-destruction-of-gaza

Comments by the right wing coalition clearly shows that Israel has not acted only defensively. Their hatred for Palestinians is clear. These are elected officials.

A visual guide to the destruction of Gaza

Satellite imagery, maps, video footage and graphics show how Gaza has been left in ruins by Israel’s war against Hamas

immigrant101 · 19/01/2025 20:43

@OpheliaWasntMad i did not say that at all . What i said was that the actions of israel since October 7 particularly made it much easier for hamas to recruit . Plenty of people
That lost everything and are only seeking revenge. How can you not see that?
The only thing this war achieved is increasing the likelihood this cycle will keep happening unless something drastically changes. I can't wait until Western journalists and UN aid workers and investigators come into the region and investigate everything. We'll finally have solid on the ground assessment of the food shortage and we can examine how much of the population has been maimed or starved and what's happened to the size of the population.
I've been alive from the age of the Oslo Accords to the age of Netanyahu. Gen Z didn't even see the Oslo Accords. They've only seen the age of Netanyahu. The image of Israel is in the trash. The attempts to protect with charges of antisemitism has hollowed out defenses against antisemitism by making the charge meaningless and as a result allowing real antisemitism to fester without real defenses.

Palestine have agreed to the two state solution, it was right wing Israel who have repeatedly blocked and strategically blocked it. I think there is the outward acceptance that Israel exists, but the wounds that have resulted are so deep. It's up to Israel to make amends.
@OpheliaWasntMad I don't think people have been brainwashed, unless you think that means they have been fed lies to cover the actual truth? Israel's atrocities towards the Palestinian people has been amplified greatly in the last year, and yes many people have finally come to the realization of the truth. Israel have historically worked very hard to deflect any attention away from their harms and wrongdoings, but in this social media filled world that is much harder to do.

Oh OK. I never see people say that Hamas are good for Palestinians, certainly not on mumsnet. I'm sure some people do somewhere but not in the circles I move in anyway and I'm not really on any social media other than Instagram where I look at pretty houses and cats. Israeli propaganda is rife on mumsnet which made me so confused at first. It can be like an stepping into an alternate reality trying to have a conversation here sometimes, I couldn't understand why people were stating the same easily disproved things as facts over and over again.

Oh OK. I never see people say that Hamas are good for Palestinians, certainly not on mumsnet.

I was responding to a pp who said ..
“To all of you going on about de radicalisation and other bullshit rhetoric . Who do you think is the biggest recruiter for hamas ? Do you think hamas would be able to recruit people that lived in an equal and fair society ? Israel's occupation and apartheid state is by far the biggest recruiter of hamas .”

I don’t agree with the excess Israeli response to October 7th. I think it caused too much suffering to too many innocent people. Unfortunately, As Hamas correctly anticipated- it has also damaged Israel’s standing.

This charming woman Daniella Weiss has been around for a long time, telling how she strategically planned settlements in order to make a two state plan impossible. Here she is, only a few months ago saying that the Palestinians will disappear "to other countries around the world".

She is one vile woman

NoisyBear · 19/01/2025 20:23

OpheliaWasntMad · 19/01/2025 20:11

Obviously there is propaganda on both sides.
But you’d need to be completely hooked by Hamas propaganda to not understand that they are bad for Palestinians/ Israelis and the region in general.
They are not the way to peace or to a fair and equal society in Gaza.

The PP blamed Israel for Hamas . I blame Iran ( and Islamist mindsets) for Hamas.
I do think the Israeli government/ IDF is guilty of some wrong doing and I hope there is a proper enquiry and the right people are held accountable for any war crimes.
