For the first time since May 2024 when the IDF took over the Rafah crossing, it has finally been opened today as part of the ceasefire agreement.

Some injured Palestinians who have been waiting for months to evacuate for medical care, are finally allowed to leave today via Rafah.

The 50 sick and injured children who were medically evacuated today are the first of 2500 children who have been identified as at risk of dying

Some have waited 9 months to leave

@GentleScroller I agree that all those who have committed acts of violence should be tried and convicted fairly and then serve their terms, whether Palestinian or Israeli (at the moment settlers are literally getting away with murder) and without justice being served there is unlikely to be peace.

I also agree that it is wrong that these prisoners were released and is unlikely to promote peace, but in all the available lists I've seen I can't find evidence of anyone convicted of murder being returned to the West Bank? Amouri, Abu Srour, Abu Warda, Odeh, Qassim and Abbassi have all been deported. Aradeh has gone back to Ramallah and was charged with attempted murder and I think several other "lower profile" detainees charged with non-fatal violence have also been returned so I'm not saying there aren't any prisoner convicted of violent crimes - just not murder. Zubeidi had served a term for violence in the past, but had been held without trial since 2019. Happy to be corrected though - it's not easy to get comprehensive information.

I did not say they were released to the West Bank. I said there have been jubilant scenes in the West Bank regarding their release. I don't think it will bring any comfort to Israelis to watch these men deported (Shadi Amouri, Ashraf Abu Srour, Mohammed Abu Warda, Mohammed Odeh, Wael Qassim, Wissam Abbasi, The Abu Hamid brothers). Between them, they have organised a series of suicide bombings and deadly attacks that killed and wounded hundreds of civilians, both Israeli and foreign nationals. They are held in high regard in Gaza and the West Bank.

This repeating pattern of violence, fueled by revenge and unresolved grievances, leads to further violence. If the people of Gaza don't suppress Palestinian militancy, Israel will continue to use extreme force, and this chain reaction of hostility and aggression will never cease.

The relatives of those murdered are distraught and find it repulsive that they have been released to jubilant scenes in the West Bank.

Majority of the detainees who were released today were detained under administrative detention.

I don't agree with them being released but i think it's likely Israel will just re-arrest them again. That's what happened to many detainees who were released during the first ceasefire.

However, this cannot be ignored how appalling it is that thousands of Palestinians are held under administrative detention, without trial and many without even any formal charges. This apartheid practice really has to stop.

There's an update that Israel have demanded information of their condition from the mediators. This should hopefully give some much needed clarity. It's terribly cruel to not even state whether they are alive or not.

I'm desperate for answers. A lot of other people are. He and all those who were abducted by the IDF must be released, too. I hope they're ok! Knowing what goes on in Israeli prisons, I am very worried for them. 😢 Autopsies on those who died in Israeli custody must be performed and thorough investigations have to be made.

Yarden Bibas will be released tomorrow but not his wife and children, which perhaps ends hopes that they are alive.

I think his family have been dead for a long time and Hamas just playing games. Whether they actually say what happened to them is impossible to know.

Keith Siegel has also now been released. His wife was also held hostage and freed during the first ceasefire, she must be so relieved that he's finally coming home.

Dr Hussam still hasn't been charged with any offences, nor has the IDF provided any evidence for their allegations. They have also prevented him from receiving any legal aid/representation or a welfare check.

35 MP's have signed a motion calling for his release.

I'm guessing he's not being released as part of the ceasefire deal, so why are you posting about him here on a thread about the ceasefire?

Shall we talk about Palestinian prisoners released in previous ceasefire deals, like Yahya Sinwar and Mohammed Deif?

This is not a thread about the Bibas babies, it's a thread about the ceasefire. Read the title, it's literally called "A ceasefire deal has been agreed". If the bodies of the hostages who died in Gaza are to be released, so should the bodies of the Palestinians who were tortured to death in Israeli prisons.

'DIED' WTF is wrong with you. If you're going to use such emotive language to talk about the deaths of Palestinians in custody then show some bloody respect for the Israeli hostages who have been intentionally killed i.e "murdered" whilst in captivity and state the fact.

Interesting how you compare the abduction/kidnap of medical staff (who committed no crime) and other innocent civilians by the IDF, to violent criminals being arrested in Britain. 🤔 The fact that you will do this proves the type of person I am dealing with. On the other hand, IDF sources say he was suspected of terrorist offenses, and we know that Hamas hid out in hospitals so there seems a good chance your doctor was collaborating with them.
