I just got a message from a senior Hamas leader in Doha who called me and he said: "We are committed to the ceasefire and what is agreed in the ceasefire and what is announced by the mediators."
When I asked him about the development this morning, on reports that Hamas is reneging elements of the deal, he says it's not true.
What we are getting from Doha this morning is that Hamas confirmed that they are committed to the ceasefire terms and to what is announced by the mediators.
Last night, I was talking to another Hamas source, who said the group was hoping to include one or two significant names from the people who served time in prison, especially two former Hamas military commanders in the West Bank, who are in Israeli prisons.

How utterly appalling they are for continuing to bomb today. Shocking behaviour from an utterly deplorable government.

I’m not sure Netanyahu personally cares about anything other than maintaining power and avoiding jail, and he needs the far right extremists to enable him to do that.

I don't think Netanyahu ever wanted to accept the deal, he was pressured into it and will look for any reason to back out.

Netanyahu’s statement that Hamas are reneging on the deal already is very disheartening. They’ve delayed the Security Cabinet vote on the deal until they are content that the deal will be implemented as agreed. I don’t know who is genuinely in the wrong here but it feels like Netanyahu backpedaling slightly.

It's a shame Hamas weren't wiped out and used innocent people in their game of terror. They are still there, will grow and will want revenge- not just on Israel. By not losing they have won.

The ideology still exists and that can never be tackled with military action obviously but their weapons stocks are massively depleted (as is the case with Hezbollah) and their backer in Iran has been shown to be a paper tiger.

I don’t for one second condone the atrocities that I agree have clearly been committed against the Palestinian civilian population but that doesn’t mean the military capability of Hamas and Hezbollah hasn’t been reduced significantly. Yes rockets are still being fired but far less of them and that’s largely because the stocks simply no longer exist in the quantities that they did.

Yes Israel still bombing Gaza. Must keep going until the last minute.

These figures are shocking, most Palestinians won't have a home to go to once the ceasefire takes place.

Israel has killed atleast 32 Palestinians since the ceasefire announcement, many of them children.

I completely disagree. Violence begets violence. Not only has Israel lost international standing but you won't bomb your way to peace. Violence begets violence and the whole war was essentially a terrorist recruitment drive. A traumatised, hunger population driven to despair. And there doesn't seem to be the motivation to find a path for peace and prosperity for the Palestinian people.

Even the US are pointing out that hamas didn't shrink.

The Israeli government have now accepted a deal that was on the table months ago? What have they have actually achieved ? The death of Sinwar is the only military strategic thing that comes to mind for me. They seem to have just caused widespread death, despair and destruction and risked the hostages lives.They said they wanted to "destroy hamas" they were told this was impossible and now they haven't actually done that. It's seems to me that the israeli government will be facing lots of serious questions from their own citizens.

The is great news for the hostages being released straight away. Hard to feel completely positive otherwise. Two thirds of buildings in Gaza have been bombed. Thousands of Palestinians will continue to die now from hunger and disease. And not even a foundation stone has been placed for real and lasting peace.

Have they? Thought they did still exist and they continue attacking Israel up to today. Thsid leaders have been killed but they have most likely been replaced by now.

If Hamas fighters have been reformed then Israel will have to do everything to prevent another October 7th and that involves greater border security. We are going back to at least a geographical situation as of October 6th but with Palestinians harbouring even greater thoughts of revenge.

There will have to be so much work done to ensure lasting peace and with Hamas in charge that remains elusive. We seem to be facing 10 more years of Palestinian grievance with another October 7th in the long term planning.

The only way there will be peace is if Hamas is not in charge and Netanhayu and his extremist governments aren’t in charge either. We need them both out of the picture.
