I wonder if Dr Hussam will be released from Kamal Adwan hospital, hopefully still alive as he is still held in Israeli torture dungeons without charge.

A Phyrric victory for Biden. If he’d done this deal a year ago, this would have been the win humanity deserved. Making the deal now is the win he needs as he leaves office. History might treat Biden more kindly than he deserves to be treated thanks to this ceasefire deal just as he leaves office. All I see is an old man walking away from the dying dumpster fire of his own making (I’m viewing this from my American perspective… there are others involved, of course!).

It’s great that it’s happening, don’t get me wrong. But I can’t feel the joy, the big exhale. There’s been too much sorrow for too long. This deal could have and should have happened a year ago. It didn’t. We know why it didn’t happen then and we know the reality of why it’s happening now. All that said, thank God it’s happening at least.

Maybe they can now start the lengthy process of trying to extract the dead who are still buried under the rubble, to atleast bury them properly.

Apparently 15,000 Palestinian children have been murdered in this genocide. How anyone can defend Israel’s military actions is absolutely obscene . Before October 7th the Palestinians have been living in what is essentially an open-air prison . This is genocide , they have flattened the place. Even with a cease-fire that has come too late anyway how on earth are the Palestinians supposed to move on, the impact of that many people being murdered and displaced . It’s obscene . Absolutely obscene. I hope the people that make an sell these weapons burn in hell.

Those trying to argue that Pro-Israeli lobbyists and donors are controlling the US government, aside from the antisemitic trope really need to do more research. Maybe this idea has particular traction here because we are not used to such vsst sums in our politics. They are normal in America. Most of Trumps major donors have many, many interests other than Israel. AiPAC doesnt even feature in the top 50 lobbyist organisations in US politics (the Chamber of Commerce spends about 20 times more) and the Israeli government doesn't even feature in the list of top government lobbyists. The Liberian government spends more than Israel but when did you hear of the 'Liberian Lobby'. In the ME Saudi, UAE and Qatar all spend more than Israel.

I really hope this is true .

I think you're all missing the point. Trump doesn't need to care about the Palestinians, that's a red herring. All he cares about is what he needs to do to achieve his aims in the region. I do recommend avoiding conspiracies about 'zionist' power.

Except most sensible commentary is saying the opposite. That the transactional nature of Trump's approach to the region and desire to have good relations with other ME states, most notably Saudi means that a path to Palestinian statehood is actually part of the bigger picture.

It will probably be Hamas or some iteration of Hamas that will go on to administer Gaza as there is no one else to do so. Hamas will have to divest itself of the military/terrorist wing of its operation.
Although to many it might sound distasteful and disgraceful that Hamas remain in control ( me included) in the real world of politics it can be the only way forward as there is no one else that the residents of Gaza trust.

Sad to hear that efforts to find Palestinian candidates have so far been fruitless. They need leadership not hell bent on Israel's destruction then hopefully this awful cycle can stop.
