I look forward to reading your posts about prejudice against other minority groups since you are here to share issues around diversity and inclusion.

Have a read to many threads in this board and you’ll be finding what you’ve requested op to do.

Are you trying to suggest something here?

A link about Muslims does not bother me whatsoever I actually found the article interesting. What bothers me is any conversation about societal divisions and how all sides need to work on fixing it is jumped on as racist - as this thread has proved.

What you said, though, was "The purpose of this thread was 1) to be divisive and 2) to portray the Muslim community as 100% innocent bystanders under attack from the nasty British public." - which is an accusation at the intentions of the OP. Perhaps you could explain where I've been jumping on things or being divisive in the thread?

Actually, the purpose of this thread was to simply post a link to an article about a report from the Runnymede Trust about how anti-Muslim hatred and prejudice is widespread. Many people on this site care about issues around diversity and inclusion. Many people on this board in particular are very concerned about how global events are factoring in to their own daily lives and the lives of others. If you had concerns about my intentions in sharing the article, you could have simply asked me, rather than making accusations.

Possibly not, unless there is a direct link to conflict in the middle east, is there?

Is there in those threads I’ve mentioned ?

Scirocco · 18/11/2024 12:51

If people don't like the thread being on this board, people are welcome to report it to MNHQ and explain why they want it moved. The report references the Israel-Palestine-Lebanon conflict as a significant contributing factor to the increase in anti-Muslim hate crimes and discrimination, and similar threads about how the conflict has also been linked with increases in antisemitism have been posted in this board for discussion without objections.

If a link about the troubles a minority group are going through in this country was posted in MN would you consider it to be divisive ? Would you think 100% of them are innocent?

or is it only links about Muslims which bother you? Did you feel the same way when the protests about black life matters as well ? And about those threads regarding antisemitism ?

Not quite yet, but very 1970s "go back to where you came from" or the best one "No, where were you really born".....

I get asked this all the time, can't imagine why. I just tell people and then ask them about themselves.
You remember the 70's?

Is the future for muslims in the UK dystopian? It's feels dystopian for many people at the moment, and the article linked would suggest statistically that it's particularly dystopian for jewish people.

Is Utopia even achievable?

Oh please. The purpose of this thread was 1) to be divisive and 2) to portray the Muslim community as 100% innocent bystanders under attack from the nasty British public.

Nobody in this thread is condoning violence against Muslims, quite the opposite. People are highlighting that there are contributing underlying issues and that disrespect works both ways. Once again any conversation is seen as an attack.

I was going to state ‘94% of the British public that are non Muslim ’ but I thought that was self explanatory to anybody with half a brain cell.

How lovely.

It's been pointed out on this thread already that Muslims are the British public. You yourself are being 'divisive' by refusing to recognise that.

They can alway go and live in a Muslim country though?

i think this sort of response is inflammatory.

Lots of our public figures are Muslim ( eg Mayor of London) and they seem to find their religion perfectly compatible with life in this country.

I do wonder where some people think I should go... Bit tricky to deport me when I only have one nationality.

Assaulting Muslims and people who look like they might be Muslim isn't going to do anything to help address immigration concerns though?

Absolutely.

It really has so perfectly illustrated the point of the article. It would be fascinating if it wasn't so tragic.

I have often wondered why Muslims especially, where their religion seems to be most important aspect of their identity, chose to live in a Christian country with a secular government. Obviously it’s not compatible.

As @quantumbutterfly stated Jews have much more to fear. The vast majority of terrorist attacks in recent history have been from Muslims so it’s not controversial that people associate the religion with that, but I don’t think we’ve ever seen a Jewish terrorist attack in the UK.

Bloody hell you've all dragged every topic you can think of into one post to stick it to the Muslims haven't you. @Scirocco I came on to write something from a muslim perspective but this is one of those threads I can see has now become a muslim bashing one. Speaks for itself really.

If I complained about a client not shaking my hand, could he accuse me of religious discrimination? Or could I accused him of sexual discrimination? We would lose the client due to his bad manners I suppose. Do I make a stand? Women have to I know. Men don't have this problem. As usual...

I would definitely be raising it with HR if you were being made feel less than because you are female. No you can't force someone to shake your hand obviously, and people have many reasons not to faith is not the only one but if it is only females being refused that is also discrimination which would need to be addressed, no one should be discriminated against based on sex, creed, ethnicity, colour and so on.

We would lose the client due to his bad manners I suppose.
That is where your workplace needs to support you and if the client s breaking your workplace values and respect and dignity policy so be it.
