Is that all your assumptions or have you evidence for any of it? The only combatants to get close to the UNIFIL bases putting them at risk were the IDF. Not helpful to start making up scenarios.

They are assumptions, though I think they are credible. Why else would Israel want the posts vacated ?

None of their actions look good in the eyes of the world so why would they suddenly care about that?

@PollyPaintsFlowers another one. Oct 8th as it says was one of the deadliest days for Gazans in 15 years. Yet you insist on lying that Israel did nothing for three weeks. You are either misinformed or deliberately spreading false information. Either way i would advise posters to take your posts with a pinch of salt.

Neither, the UNIFIL sites were simply "in the way" of the IDF going into Lebanon.

Though the IDF may also have been worried that Hezbollah may want to take up defensive positions close to these sites, thus making it harder for the IDF to destroy them without also damaging UNIFIL posts. The latter would not look particularly good in the eyes of the world. So, better to get UNIFIL to move out and leave Israel with a "clear board".

I thought you were claiming that Hezbollah fired into Israel 3 weeks before The Hamas attack of Oct 7th, which of course they didn't. Sorry.

I knew there had been attacks between Hezbollah and Israel before Oct 7, but you seem to be referring to something more specific shortly before Oct 7.

And after Oct 8, Hezbollah rockets and missiles didn't "rain down" or "pound" northern Israel. After Oct 8th there were very carefully measured exchanges between the IDF and Hezbollah, with neither side wanting to get embroiled in a full scale exchange. Israel had its hands full in Gaza and wasn't ready to open up another front, and Hezbollah didn't want to get embroiled in a full scale offensive. More than one journalist has described how it was all carefully calibrated and Tit for tat, but despite that it gradually escalated over time. Over the period until September this year, most of the firing has come from Israel. Mehdi Hasan claims that over 80% of the ordnance fired across the border, in the 11 months after October 8th, came from Israel.

@mouthpipette source for what? You've said yourself that Hezbollah attacked Israel on October 8th. Israel bombed Gaza starting on October 13th and their ground offensive started on the 27th of October. Hezbollah attacked Israel before they'd done anything to Gaza

Can you provide a source for this please. My understanding was that Oct 8th was when Hezbollah first attacked Israel and that was an Israeli military position at Shebaa farms,
