There just aren't the words anymore. I don’t know how people can continue to justify this. This isn't about October 7. This is about their wish to exterminate the Palestinian people.

Absolutely right. There's no denying it anymore.

@Dulra “justification to the heinous act.”

One can understand without justifying, equally retribution may never be just.

Had a very quick read about Nurit Peled-Elhanan.

Her thirteen year old daughter was killed in a 1997 terrorist attack by Hamas, and because she dared to consider that the oppression of Gaza may have been a factor which led to October 7th, she was suspended from the college she worked at.

Apart from her dedication to human rights, perhaps she was a grieving mother searching for answers. Truly disgraceful, and extreme.

‘On Oct. 25, Professor Nurit Peled-Elhanan, a lecturer at a college in Jerusalem, participated in a discussion in a faculty WhatsApp group about the horrific events of Oct. 7. In response to another lecturer’s message, she wrote that “the massacre,” referring to the actions of Hamas, reminded her of something the French philosopher and playwright Jean-Paul Sartre once wrote about race relations, adding a paraphrased quote: “‘After so many years that the neck of the occupied has been suffocating under your iron foot and suddenly was given a chance to raise his eyes, what kind of gaze did you expect you would see there?’ We saw this gaze,” Ms. Peled-Elhanan wrote to her colleagues.
A few hours later, Ms. Peled-Elhanan — a winner of the European Parliament’s Sakharov Prize for human rights and the freedom of thought, and a bereaved mother whose 13-year-old daughter, Smadar, was murdered in a 1997 terrorist attack by Hamas — received a letter from the president of the college. He advised her that she was suspended and summoned her to a hearing on whether her employment would be terminated. The charge: “displays of understanding to the horrific act of Hamas” and expressing “justification to the heinous act.”’

Israel Is silencing internal critics

Social media postings in Israel are now subject to intense scrutiny by a task force established recently by extreme-right-wing Minister…

Are you talking about Robert Martin's interview with Nurit Peled Elhanan? I can repost the links here if you like. 😀

Yes! Thank you very much.

I am sure I can find that.

For posters stating that it is Palestinians being educated to hate Jews ( in fact their text books are censored), perhaps you would like to see how it works very much the other way: look up discussions/writing by Nurit Peled Elhanan. The discussions are on You Tube.

She is Israeli.
This about her is an excerpt from Wikipedia.

Nurit Peled-Elhanan (Hebrew: נורית פלד-אלחנן; born 17 May 1949) is an Israeli philologist, professor of language and education at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, translator, and activist. She is a 2001 co-laureate of the Sakharov Prize for Freedom of Thought awarded by the European Parliament.[1][2][3] She is known for her research on the portrayal of Palestinians in Israeli textbooks, which she has criticized as being anti-Palestinian.[4] Elhanan supports the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) movement.

The idea is that they get out, starve to death, or be shot on the street, or bombed isn’t it?
That was Gior Eiland’s suggested plan.

Northern Gaza will be wiped off the face of the earth and no Palestinians will be allowed back.

This beggars belief! People are actually saying these vile things? No words.

Certain groups feel very empowered at the moment to say the quiet bits of their Islamophobia and racism out loud at the moment.

Sadly, I've encountered that perspective a lot. Some people think "well, of course any death of a child is sad, but..." Palestinian and Muslim children don't warrant the same level of sadness. I've had people compare the killing of children (who are so like my own) to roadkill - that it's always a shame when a car has to hit and kill an animal but that's better than risking causing an accident in which actual people could be hurt. I've also encountered people who would actively prefer for me and my own DC to go to Gaza so we can be killed along with the rest of 'our lot'. And yet these same people will claim to be 'on the side of peace'. No, they're on the side of religious and racial hatred and oppression.

itwasnevermine · 13/10/2024 12:32

@Scirocco it's always the "but", "but someone had done that to us I'd hope the government would do the same". It's such a shameful and disgusting attitude to hold

Scirocco · 13/10/2024 11:38

itwasnevermine · 12/10/2024 21:42

I've been thinking about this all day, it just weighs so heavy on my mind.

I am convinced the blasé attitude and even rabid support for what is happening is rooted in Islamophobia. We've been taught to see Muslims as the enemy for so long.

I've spoken to my mum about it and while she thinks the Israeli children are innocent (of course, I agree they are) she thinks the Palestinian children are just collateral damage who deserve to pay for Hamas' crimes. It's sickening.

The idea that Arab-Israeli’s ‘actually’ have the same rights is ridiculous. What is written in law doesn’t necessarily translate into equal action does it.

Even before the latest conflict there were disparities in mortality and life expectancy, which are most likely due to many factors, but as with all societies, it indicates that the way in which they are perceived, understood and treated is not equal to Jewish Israeli’s.

I also wouldn’t write off statistics like this about our country and minority groups. It doesn’t help to pretend differences don’t exist.

Between 2020 and 2022, the average rate of infant mortality among Arabs (5.1 per 1,000 live births) was more than twice as high as the equivalent rate among Jews (1.9). Within Arab society, the infant mortality rate among Muslims (5.3) was considerably higher than the rate among Druze (3.1) and much higher than the rate among Christians (1.9).
Life expectancy in Arab society has continued to rise, thanks to improvements in various health indicators, but there remains a significant gap between Arabs and Jews: Life expectancy for men and women in Arab society are now identical to life expectancy for men and women in Jewish society two decades ago.

Ridiculous thing to say. 20% of the Israeli population are Arab / Muslim with exactly the same rights as everyone else there. There are around 400 Mosques in Israel compared to around 100 in all the Arab countries combined!!!
You know nothing about Israel and its people. Educate yourself, it's you who is brainwashed.

I think you are gravely mistaken here. Have a read of these articles:
