I did on another post. It was purely a type and I didn't mean to offend anyone from Israel.

You didn’t spell Israel wrong though so nothing to apologise for if this is the post being referred to.

Agreed, HelenHen was only pointing out that many people sympathise with Palestinians and don't hate Jewish people or want them dead, for being Jewish. That's an absolutely awful thing to say. As is saying that Muslims love their children less than they hate Israel. How dare anyone say such a thing.
Why can't we sympathise with people in the middle east without it descending into this nastiness.

And that’s just one kibbutz of many up north. By August 39,000 acres of north Israel had burned.
Do you know that Barzilai medical centre ( a hospital) was hit at the start of the war? Luckily they’d already evacuated the high risk pregnancy and gynae wards not long before, as the rocket struck close to those wards. I don’t remember seeing it reported in msm.
Apart from majdal shams, there has been other playgrounds also hit by rocket fire, and schools and homes. The shrapnel itself is massive, and the reason why Israelis stay in bomb shelters for ten minutes after.
Many homes across Israel have been bombed out, well before this latest attack.

And this is what people who go on so called “peaceful marches” and shout ‘globalise the intifada’ are calling for.
if you go on those marches, that’s what you’re choosing to stand alongside and the company you’re choosing to keep.
Why would anyone want to align themselves with people who want to see Jews murdered just for being Jewish??

There was a terrorist attack in Tel Aviv today too.

Yes I think the death toll is seven now. Two armed terrorists from the West Bank who just shot people at random.

It’s true though isn’t it or why would people be celebrating a massive missile bombardment from one nuclear power on another, obviously hoping as much death and destruction as possible was wrought, and surely knowing that a full blown war across their region was imminent due to it?

If they loved their children more than they hated Israel, they would be horrified at this escalation and the further suffering yet to come on all sides surely? Wouldn’t you be?

Most people in the West are.

The ‘martyr’ ideology across that region is well documented in videos, articles and even UN reports from over 20 years ago and up to recently.

It is gobsmacking to me that people in the West don’t understand the relevance of that and the implications of it as a barrier to peace in the region.

Golda Meir said it in 1957:
Peace will come when the Arabs will love their children more than they hate us.

And in 1969:
When peace comes we will perhaps in time be able to forgive the Arabs for killing our sons, but it will be harder for us to forgive them for having forced us to kill their sons.

Over 50 years later and…………….

There are no adequate words to convey the tragedy in this.

As a general outsider to these threads the antisemitism is rather shockingly obvious.

My heart goes out to Israel and anyone who has family there.

Oh yes, 50 Muslim countries that don’t let women show their faces and throw gay people off buildings but it’s the only Jewish country in the world that happens to be the most “vile”. You’re telling on yourself, herr drivemecrazy.

I keep on reading about "Hating Israel" and that's become the go-to phrase.
Personally (and this view may be shared by one or more posters here) I don't hate Israel, I hate its behaviour, I hate what it is doing at the moment. In addition, I don't have much empathy for a lot of its previous behaviour. But Israel is people, new people with different ideas can come along and people can change their views. Were they to deal more equitably with their neighbours, they might just find fewer projectiles coming their way and that just might happen were Palestinians to have a reasonable chance of living a reasonable life. So there is hope for Israel, but not in the way it is behaving now.

As for the thread title, I sympathise with those who feel that it has been derailed and that at least one thread could stay on course. Can we stop the "It's genocide!" , "No it isn't" discussion. Personally I would prefer to address the problem than debate the label. To me, Israel's actions are disproportionate, barbaric, inhumane and worst of all, unnecessary. For me, the process of trying to categorise it, is relatively unimportant.

And to justify this post and to get back "on thread" I will make an admission. No doubt someone will describe it as "head madness" or "unfeasible", but this is it.

When I heard that Israelis were in their bunkers I sincerely hoped that none of them would be in any way harmed.
I watched the Nova documentary and it was the most chilling and one of the most saddening things I have ever seen. It was the terror and fear of those poor people at the festival. No human being on earth should ever be made to feel like that. That fear is being felt by so many people in that part of the world. There must be a better way to do things.

And a confession. I did however hope that when those who experienced the Iranian missiles this evening, emerged from their shelters, they would walk into a street with quite a few a few bombed-out buildings, just so that they could start to empathise with all the other people in the middle east who have had their home destroyed. Maybe then they could start to see the madness and futility and realise there has to be another way to sort out this conflict which has been a festering sore for decades.

And another confession. I had a thought. One which I should be ashamed of having, but I had it. I wished just one rocket could "neutralise" Benjamin Netanyahu. A very utilitarian, "for-the-greater-good argument." My dream then followed that Israel called a ceasefire, all the right wing nutters were locked up and negotiations started. Negotiations over anything. Even if it's just the price of Felafal. Talking is better than what we've got at the moment.
