Absolutely. Let's keep this thread on topic... so if people could stop referring to 'left wing nutters' and the peaceful pro Palestine marches as terrorist supporters, that would be great, and there would be no need for any response. Thank you.

I watched the interview on Newsnight with Victoria Derbyshire, Noam, girlfriend of David Newman, and Ben, a wonderful young man who helped a mother of three children to escape the Nova Music massacre. Considering English is their second language, these courageous young people told the audience what happened to them and their friends. But I don’t think you can describe in words alone the utter terror and carnage of the events of that day.

This is why I am pleased and surprised that the BBC Storyville commissioned this film, Surviving October 7th: We Will Dance Again. However painful and disturbing it is to watch. We need to remind the world of these atrocities and acknowledge the pain and suffering. I am sick and tired of watching these far-left activists marching in London shouting out their hateful, antisemitic remarks and this sick, false narrative of the oppressed and the oppressor. How we have allowed these hate marches to continue in central London and throughout the country is unforgivable. All the people who attend these marches are complicit in supporting and encouraging a terrorist organisation whose only priority is to murder every single Jew in Israel. This war isn’t about securing land for Palestinians; this is a hateful Islamic ideology. It is a religious war led by right-wing Islamic Jihadists and ironically supported by the far left in the West.

I haven’t watched the film, although I’m glad it’s been made. I’ve also not been down the nova site or the kibbutzim, same reason that although I’ve read the holocaust diaries series, I never went to the actual camps. I don’t think I could bear it. I hardly slept after 7/10, and I can’t go back to that place I was in. Ive seen footage and read/heard testimonials of family members, emergency rescue workers, survivors and freed hostages, and it was harrowing.

I’ve heard talk that they will turn the nova festival area into a permanent memorial.

There’s a permanent memorial site in israel to 9/11, I can’t imagine there won’t be fixed memorial site(s?) for 7/10 too.

Ive also heard talk about fixing a Remembrance Day too. I’m not sure what date, as 7/10 was on the Jewish festival of Simchat Torah, which is traditionally the culmination of the period of the High Holy days, and one of the happiest days of the year. As that’s a Jewish date, it follows the Jewish calendar so it occurs on a different secular calendar day every year, and there is no way they would be able to make Simchat Torah the Memorial Day .

Burning man in America had a big memorial, it was beautifully done from the pictures I saw. very fitting given it is also a desert festival.

Sorry for the aside but will there be a national memorial in Israel to the victims? I was in MY after the twin towers attacks and the twin beams of light shining form the building footprints was particularly poignant. Would love to think the nova sight could be filled with lights.

It would be good not to rehearse the arguments that we've had on other threads here. There are dozens of threads where those arguments are raging and the story of the 7 October attacks and the victims, those who died, those who were kidnapped & those who survived, barely get a look in. Maybe here we could focus on them and the film here.

I bet there was some resistance when the commissioners were considering this as I bet some at the BBC would not want to produce a document that was politically sensitive in some eyes. So we'll done getting it made however harrowing it is.

Well done BBC. As from as it is October 7th needs documenting and documenting well. One reason is quite simply is that there will be October 7th denial and having widespread and continual awareness is vital. I also hope alongside documentaries like this there are physical memorials as well.

One thing that struck me is that a lot of the youth in the UK can really relate to festivals and I think you can see a new generation that has unfortunatly had to see the dark side of humanity.

What about the fact that Israel abides by the international rules of war? And the fact they take more care to avoid civilian casualties than NATO? This is borne out by the combatant to civilian casualty ratio of 1:2 in Gaza. According to the UN, in modern urban warfare, the average is 1:9. America and coalition partners which included the UK bombed the hell out of ISIS. And they weren't given the warnings that Israel provides Gazans. Where was your outrage then?!

You think that giving Gazan civilians advanced warnings to leave particular areas by sending text messages and dropping leaflets is worse than showing up at kibbutzes - by surprise - and torturing children in front of their parents and parents in front of their children?! What is wrong with you?

All the while it hasn’t even entered your head, I suppose, that hamas has perfected the art of embedding itself the civilian landscape so that an opposing army cannot hit hamas without hitting the civilians around them. Other armies have tried this, no one has perfected it like hamas have. I agree that with all the absolute tragedy and suffering amongst Palestinians this creates, it's shit, yet that is how hamas themselves have chosen to wage this war.

It's beyond any words. I hope it reaches a wide audience. Those who excuse 7th October won't want to see it.
