Pagers and walkie talkies .....audacious and successful strike against terrorists

If a large number of members of Al Quaeda or ISIS were killed with a precise attack I think in the West there would be admiration and indeed satisfaction that such a military success had occurred.

However I am disturbed by the reporting of the targeted neutralization of terrorists within Lebanon with even the main stream press virtually describing those struck as civilians and questioning the legality and morality of this! Have we lost our moral compassess?

There were some unfortunate civil an deaths but given the scale of the strike this was a terrible inevitability. However the civil an to combatant rratio was very small in reality as the explosions were kinky d to a personal zone. Yet when we read the press we allow terrorist propaganda calling the events a massacre of even that trumped up word 'genocide' that people seem to love.

If Osama bin Laden had been brought to a local hospital would we have allowed weeping doctors to lament his injuries? Thought not.

@Blahblahblah2

IIta not a race to the botrom. Israeli children were tortured to death in October 7th. War is geim. Israel are now fighting an enemy in two fronts ,Hamas and Hizbollah. Hamas and Israel are both walking away from ceasefire talks as it doesn't suit either of them currently to find a peace. It looks like Hizbollah are aiming rockets indiscriminately into Isarael.

I don't think a solution is to stop this war on terrorism peronally . I also think the pagers attack showed glaringly how terrorists use civilian crowds for cover.

A race to the bottom? Israel is clearly winning the race to the bottom.

7th October was utterly horrific, but Israel's actions have completely surpassed that. You know this, everyone knows this.

I think the BBC at least are now talking more about an extensive war and I think the term war more generally should be used. The war between Hizbollah will have thankfully fewer civilian casualties as the area of conflict is more open. There have been bombs dropped on Beirut but again targeted.

@Sinisterdexter your post makes no sense. The Arab people living in Israel are clearly not the ones being targeted in the genocide.

But why not?
They're mostly Palestinians.
What is the difference between them and the people of Gaza other than location?

marmaladeandpeanutbutter · 21/09/2024 07:30

Typical propaganda. What you did was wrong.

mids2019 · 21/09/2024 07:29

Israel at least some shelter arms in schools ending is a tactic used in Gaza and I suspect Lebanon.

@mids2019 How many Palestinian schools have been destroyed by Israel?

RVEllacott · 21/09/2024 07:23

You might view this differently if it was your child or loved one who had been killed or maimed in one of these attacks. Israel is literally getting away with murder.

Blahblahblah2 · 21/09/2024 07:21

You mocked the word genocide, putting it in quotation marks, describing it as 'trumped up', that people 'love' it, clearly in reference to Palestinians. They are suffering a genocide and you need to wake up.

Sinisterdexter · 21/09/2024 07:18

Blahblahblah2 · 21/09/2024 07:04

You have lost your moral compass, and yes Israel is carrying out a genocide; there's no better word for it.

What I don’t understand is if Israel are carrying out a genocide then why are
2 million Arabs living peacefully in Israel?

mids2019 · 21/09/2024 07:16

Who were the 150 rockets fired by Hizbollah aimed at? What would happen if one struck a school? How would this be described?

There is no genocide in Lebanon it looks like a growing war. We need to get the terminology right. War is a bad thing but war is not genocide. If there are any regrettable civilian casualties in Lebanon this is a heart breaking thing but it's not genocide.

Perhaps it would have been great if all of Hamas had pagers but unfortunately they didn't or the civilian death toll could have been minimised.

I think What disturbed me was some portrayal in the media that the pagers strike was aimed at civilians. It simply wasnt. To suggest the strike was indiscriminate is simple non sense; in fact I can't think of many more military tactics that could be more targeted.

There needed to be a clarification on the news that those in hospitals were mainly terrorists or at best armed combatants. Hezbollah don't have the option of firing rockets at Israel then saying they are civilans. It doesn't work like that.

@leafybrew .

II don't think it's warped to accept that the suppression of a terrorist organisation whose sole reason to exist is the destruction of Israel is a good thing. Do you have better ideas on how to target terroists?

OP posts:
mids2019 · 21/09/2024 06:55

The vast majority of those wounded were combatants or terrorists. I would hope that our government would target terrorist organisations threatening our lives. I think in terms of tactical victory t has been a success and there is some advantage in disrupting the enemy in this way.

What is wrong is the portrayal of all those killed or injured as being innicent. It was serious Hizbollah leadership that were carrying the pagers. I don't think anyone is weeping for them. We have allowed at least some propaganda by allowing the word :leader's to be used. Obviously the head of Hizbollah will use those terms but so think generally in the media it shouldn't be portrayed as such.

leafybrew · 21/09/2024 06:19

Wow - that's warped.

The whole thing is nightmarish with 300 people still in intensive care units. Children killed as well.

Indeed we have lost our moral compass if you think it's fine to condone these actions.

marmaladeandpeanutbutter · 21/09/2024 06:06

Very many civilians. Loads. You should be ashamed, not justifying it. It is going to make all out war far more likely. It was a foolish action, and I pray that our government has absolutely nothing at all to do with it. Nor funds it.
