I am not surprised about Israel declaring Antonio Guterrez person non-grata; another low point in this never ending conflict.
UN may have made mistakes, but it is an organisation created and funded by the Western democracies to defend our human rights and keep peace, the peace we do need to prosper. Their president is chosen by the member estates and I very much doubt they are going to allow in any person of dubios character in their top ranks, in full view of the whole world.
Other thing is someone can be up to some wrong doing in roles in the field, which is more difficult to find out.

Israel has declared the UN secretary-general António Guterres a “persona non grata” and banned him from entering the country, and said he would be remembered “as a stain on the history of the UN”.
Announcing the decision on social media, Israel’s foreign minister Israel Katz said:
Today, I have declared UN secretary-general António Guterres persona non grata in Israel and banned him from entering the country. Anyone who cannot unequivocally condemn Iran’s heinous attack on Israel, as almost every country in the world has done, does not deserve to step foot on Israeli soil.
This is a secretary-general who has yet to denounce the massacre and sexual atrocities committed by Hamas murderers on 7 October, nor has he led any efforts to declare them a terrorist organization.
A secretary-general who gives backing to terrorists, rapists, and murderers from Hamas, Hezbollah, the Houthis, and now Iran – the mothership of global terror – will be remembered as a stain on the history of the UN.
Israel will continue to defend its citizens and uphold its national dignity, with or without António Guterres.
In October 2023 Guterres said “I have condemned unequivocally the horrifying and unprecedented 7 October acts of terror by Hamas in Israel. Nothing can justify the deliberate killing, injuring and kidnapping of civilians – or the launching of rockets against civilian targets. All hostages must be treated humanely and released immediately and without conditions.”
However, he angered Israelis by, in the same speech, saying “It is important to also recognise the attacks by Hamas did not happen in a vacuum. The Palestinian people have been subjected to 56 years of suffocating occupation.”
Guterres continued on that occasion to say Palestinians “have seen their land steadily devoured by settlements and plagued by violence; their economy stifled; their people displaced and their homes demolished. But the grievances of the Palestinian people cannot justify the appalling attacks by Hamas. And those appalling attacks cannot justify the collective punishment of the Palestinian people.”
Last month UN members overwhelmingly backed a non-binding motion calling for Israel to end its near six decade long occupation of the Palestinian West Bank territories.

How will they do that given that they never managed to stop Lebanon, Iraq and Yemen being used by Iran as puppets?

I'm not searching in the realms of citme for threasd on something I've studied in depth. I know what I'm talking about and why Palestinians who have their own definition - it's as a weapon against Israel. There is no other reason why the 1951 refugee convention would not apply to them.

Because it's obvious that it's to a stick to beat israel with. They must be allowed to return even though they are now Jordanian for 3 generations.

Why single out Palestinian refugees as somehow being forever refugees as opposed to every other refugee in the world?

The UN literally has one definition for all the world's refugees and a separate definition for Palestinian refugees.
All refugees in the world cease to be refugees when they take the citizenship of another country (I.e. no longer in need of international protection) except Palestinians who refugees in perpetuity.

Unhcr runs a big resettlement programme whereby refugees are settled in third countries. Who are forbidden from taking part in this programme? Palestinian refugees registered with unrwa who must remain refugees.

It's not really the un's fault - it's the member states who decided that Palestinian refugees are different to every other refugee in the world - but the un must apply it.

Yeah, that's how it always is at the GA. The speeches are actually interminably boring, no world leaders go to the GA for the speeches 😂
They're there to have bilateral meetings and network with other leaders, they're certainly not sitting in the GA hall listening to the PM of Paraguay or Samoa. Unless they come back in to demonstratively walk out when Israel speaks.
