Hezbollah and Iran 'poised to attack Israel this week'

So some people would prefer the Israelis to just sit there and wait for hundreds of Hezbollah missiles and drones to hit them? I take it those people would also be ok with their own government and military not responding in any way to the credible threat of a large scale attack on their population, even while the attack was actually fucking happening. Unbelievable. Considering the amount of sneering criticism I've seen on here regarding the failures of Israeli intelligence and the IDF regarding October 7th, the hypocrisy is off the scale.

'Hezbollah has said it hit 11 Israeli military sites, fired more than 320 rockets and sent drones flying into northern Israel on Sunday as part of the “first phase” of its response to Israel’s killing of the movement’s top commander in a strike on Beirut last month.

Early on Sunday, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said it had launched strikes inside Lebanon after assessing that Hezbollah was preparing to fire rockets and missiles towards Israel. Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari, the top Israeli military spokesperson, said 100 warplanes struck more than 40 Hezbollah launch areas, eliminating thousands of rocket launcher barrels aimed for immediate fire towards Israel.

It later announced the military operation was “completed” for the day. The Lebanese group denied that Israel’s pre-emptive strikes, launched just before its own attack, affected its own operation. “The enemy’s claims about the pre-emptive action it carried out, the targets it struck and its disruption of the resistance’s [Hezbollah’s] attack, are empty,” Hezbollah’s statement read. It added that all drones were launched as scheduled “towards the desired targets”.'

IDF calls airstrikes inside Lebanon an 'act of self-defence'
Israeli Defence Forces spokesman Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari said in a statement early on Sunday: "‎‏In a self-defence act to remove these threats, the (Israeli military) is striking terror targets in Lebanon, from which Hezbollah was planning to launch their attacks on Israeli civilians.

"We can see that Hezbollah is preparing to launch an extensive attack on Israel, while endangering the Lebanese civilians," he added, without providing details.

"‎‏We warn the civilians located in the areas where Hezbollah is operating to move out of harm’s way immediately for their own safety."

I hope sense prevails. It may yet be another calibrated response from Iran to show it can retaliate without bringing the full force of the US against it. Iran can't risk a devastating phase of attacks when the regime is weak.
