The Pew institute is generally considered non partisan unlike a lot of the Washington based think tanks, which are essentially lobbyist groups for vested interests.

So linking to an antisemitic Hamas loving website is fine but pointing that out is not. Thank you MNHQ for reminding us why so many Jewish mumsnetters have been driven from your website recently.

I have now googled the Pew Research Centre as suggested by JohnSnow to try finding the direct source of the poll details on censoring social media posts.

It is interesting to see the Pew Research Centre report where it says,

• The share of Israelis who say posts that express sympathy for civilians in Gaza should be kept off social media (59%) is about double the share who say these posts are acceptable (30%).

• Israelis are most divided on posts that criticize their government’s actions in the war. Half say those posts should be censored, while 41% disagree. Supporters of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s coalition government are much more likely than nonsupporters to say posts criticizing the government should not be allowed (69% vs. 39%).

It seems wrong to me not to be allowed to show sympathy for civilians harmed in a war. Even if there is the danger this could be used manipulatively by enemies, imo an even greater danger is for a population to be unaware of what is happening to other people in their name. I also think it is important in a democracy to be able to criticise the government.

The Pew Centre also reports,

• Arab Israelis are more likely than Jewish Israelis to say they post or share about political or social issues at least sometimes (28% vs. 20%). However, Jews are about twice as likely as Arabs to do so about the Israel-Hamas war specifically (20% vs. 11%). About a quarter of Arab Israelis (24%, a plurality among those asked) say they never post or share content about the war. Only 6% of Jewish Israelis say the same.

• Since October, Israeli authorities have detained dozens of Arab citizens over their social media posts related to the war. Many others have faced disciplinary measures at work or school for things they shared online, according to rights groups based in Israel.

This seems to suggest that Arab Israelis might be feeling that they should keep quiet about their views regarding the war in a way that Jewish Israelis do not.

No, in fact the Egyptian Government has been very clear that it is in breach of the Camp David peace agreement signed with Israel. However with the protection of the American government Israel has ignored them.

I’ve noticed some U.K. papers pick up on Haaretz news pieces a little later.

Full Haaretz articles cannot be accessed without a subscription unless they have been archived which is not the case with this one about the poll at the moment. Therefore The Cradle, quoting the Haaretz poll statistics, is useful.

Re tge report:
One thing it was not clear about the idea of censoring Palestinian violent images relating to Gaza was whether it would also apply to violent Israeli, especially IDF, social media images.

At this point any website, person or even institution that is not openly and loudly Pro Israel is being labelled as being Pro Hamas.

It is a tired deflection technique used to attempt to bully posters into silence.
Newsflash other opinions exist and attempts at shaming people and emotional manipulation is useless after 11 months.

This is from The Cradle stating the poll it is reporting on is from Haaretz (Israeli). It says

according to a poll published by Haaretz newspaper on 5 September.

It then cites statistics from the poll.

The poster made it clear that it was the same story as the one in Haaretz. Haaretz is a respected Israeli paper.
The story is not about sympathising with Hamas. It is a factual article about a poll of Israeli opinion.

People should realise that some elements in this Israeli regime would go for their own people too.

This Israeli young women with a chronic illness has been detained in prison with hands and feet bound for allegedly throwing wet sand ‘in the direction of’ Ben-Givr on a beach in Tel Avi.

Israeli people on the beach were shouting at him and calling him a murderer because they blame him for blocking the ceasefire.

No doubt the majority don’t want to see or read about what is happening in Gaza.

The Israeli army said in a statement it had "conducted a precise strike on terrorists who were operating inside a Hamas command and control centre... embedded inside a compound that previously served as the 'Halima al-Sa'diyya' School in the northern Gaza Strip."

In a separate incident, five Palestinians were killed in an Israeli strike on a residential building in the Nuseirat camp in central Gaza.

What I would like to know is how the IDF know they have hit their target terrorists with a precision strike?

Do they watch a screen attached to the camera of a drone that can drop bombs, see known terrorists walk into an area of tents, and then press a button? At which point the terrorists and all the other civilians in the immediate area of the precision strike get killed?

There have been an awful lot of “command and control centres” mentioned in the aftermath of these strikes. I wonder how many of those mentioned existed, or really did include any significant group of Hamas fighters?
