Israeli security officials are offering the incentive of permanent residency status to asylum seekers who agree to participate in sometimes life-threatening military operations in Gaza. Sources say that internal criticism of this exploitation has been silenced: 'This is a very problematic matter'

Israel's defense establishment is offering African asylum seekers who contribute to the war effort in Gaza – risking their lives – assistance in obtaining permanent status in Israel. This, according to personal accounts obtained by Haaretz.

To me this plan seems not very likely to work out well for the asylum seekers.

Horrific suffering for such young innocent blameless children. Barbaric

The orders and directives may prohibit this, and they may sound all very moral. But they are at evidently at odds with the IDF’s everyday standard operating procedures.
And at odds with the evidence, so why are they not being reprimanded if it against policy and orders?

Putting children through this is monstrous. How will those poor children ever get over it. It is awful enough the IDF is using any of the civilians this way.

When asked about these testimonies, the Israeli military said “the orders and directives of the IDF prohibit the use of Gazan civilians captured in the field for military missions that endanger them”.

The orders and directives may prohibit this, and they may sound all very moral. But they are at evidently at odds with the IDF’s everyday standard operating procedures.

I looked up the singer Argov mentioned and saw the Times of Israel had written about him November 2022 and said this:

Israeli society has a problem. It has too much tolerance and flexibility, and people don’t pay a price for the heinous crimes they committed, whether singers or actors or doctors,” said Orit Sulitzeanu, executive director of the Association of Rape Crisis Centers in Israel.

Apparently people adore his singing in spite
of his crimes. It is such a difficult question imo to answer - whether a person’s art can be praised in spite of the dreadful wrongs they have carried out. It is interesting to hear how important he was for Mizrahi music.

Without being able to read the whole Haaretz article here we cannot tell if there was more to say about the Sde Teiman soldiers whose crime of sodomising and brutally attacking the Hamas policeman, may also be ignored, though the Times of Israel 2022 seems to suggest this may not be surprising.

There are other problems of rape in Israel.

And sadly, it’s the truth,” she says. “Our prime minister [Benjamin Netanyahu] never speaks out against sexual violence – in fact, within his own little circle, there are several men who have been accused of it. Our justice minister and education minister haven’t said anything about it, and neither does the army acknowledge that it has a severe problem on its hands. And even when women go to the police to complain, they are still asked questions like what were they wearing and whether or not they had an orgasm. So why would people complain? What would they gain from* it besides more anguish?”

(Obviously there is a problem with rape and sexual assault in the U.K. too where in effect it is not a crime because it will never be prosecuted. But it does seem as though it is too ignored in Israel especially in the army. )

Can UN kick countries out of their organisation? I do believe Israel shouldn’t be part of it if continues killing , harassing members of the organisation and causing impediments

Similar to what they have been doing to humanitarian vehicles, enough for the organisation concerned to put a halt to operations based on safety grounds without them having to directly prohibit operations.

Awful conduct. Just awful. Creating the circumstances for a polio outbreak and then obstructing efforts to vaccinate children against a disease that can kil them or cause lifelong disability.
