Israelis Are Living in a Regime of Fear and State Violence

These are the days of a fear regime. Fear of protesting against cabinet ministers who love power, money and authority. Fear of protesting against a dictatorship that has taken over the country. Fear of protesting in the streets in a desperate cry to save the hostages in Gaza. Fear of waving signs demanding the establishment of a state commission of inquiry.

Absolutely. But the people with the power to stop it or at least rein it in are just letting it continue. Ordinary people in the region are terrified. People with loved ones in the region are scared too. Nobody felt safe to start with, but this just adds a new layer to that. Given the loose definition of 'legitimate target', how safe is anyone, really?

This is completely out of control.

They do not want the outside world knowing so much of what they are doing.

Then there will be those who will not want the critics from among themselves watching either.

Self defence eh? Looks mighty like genocide doesn't it?

Not general punishment, worries about hamas managing to get an operative in a position where more innocents will die. Its understandable when there appeared to be so many hamas who were able to take part in October 7th.

Regarding not trusting Palestinians , general punishment for what a few people from their country have done ?

Offering them asylum if they fight for their country aka risking their lives. That’s bribing vulnerable people as you say

Plenty of armies allow recruits from other nations there are many EU nationalities fighting in Ukraine. That's not the issue the issue is bribing vulnerable desperate people to fight in Gaza imo that is ethically wrong and exploitative.

I understand them wanting labour for construction from other lands and not trusting people from Gaza again after 7th October.

The (French) Foreign Legion used to recruit from overseas and were a paid army, not sure if they still exist though.

U.N. High Commissioner for Human Rights denounces Israel’s disregard for international law.

“It seems to me we are at a fork in the road. We can either continue on our current path – a treacherous ‘new normal’ – and sleepwalk into a dystopian future,” he said in a speech met with applause from diplomats.

He also talked about lots of other issues and he seemed to make a lot of sense. This is worth a read if you’re having a bad day and need a break from all the glitter in your eyes (ref to his speech).

They are a disgrace. People are encouraged to consider that Israel acts in line Western values, yet this behaviour is far away from that.

Has anyone here seen things like this happening on a frequent basis in the West??! Do you think it would be tolerated? Or implicitly encouraged?

The bar for behaviour has dropped so low, that it’s not even that out of the ordinary, and what should be disturbing, is habituated and explained away like nothing.

Thise settlers are awful, ignorant thugs and bullies. Why is the government of Israel not ashamed enough to stop them? Given that they don’t trey are one and the same.

I also scrolled down and saw others of their kind had poisoned 50 sheep belonging to two Bedouins. They poured poison into the sheeps’ drinking water.

From Haaretz brief last night about recruiting the asylum seekers

ISRAEL: Israel's defense establishment is offering African asylum seekers willing to participate in life-threatening Gaza war operations assistance in obtaining permanent residency status in Israel, an investigation by Haaretz revealed. Defense officials speaking off record said the project is conducted in an organized manner, guided by legal advisers.

• Security sources told Haaretz that internal criticism of the exploitation of the asylum seekers' vulnerable status and human rights has been silenced, saying: "This is a very problematic matter." To date, no asylum seekers who contributed to the war effort have been granted official status.

The Israeli government is also recruiting Indians to work in construction in order to replace Palestinians.

Netanyahu is said to want the war to go on and on, so they’ll need to recruit more soldiers as they must not have enough conscripts. Then no doubt they’ll use the asylum seeking African army recruits for riskier tasks.
