However as other posters have said, hate speech online is nothing new and has been around for donkeys years. You should have seen some of the comments online when the Hind case was in the news.

The police depend on the platform owners to monitor and take down generalised comments like that. The last time I reported hate speech to them, they said unless it was directed at me personally and it was regarding one of my protected characteristics, there wasn’t anything they could do.

@Custardcream84 Again, Zionism is the belief that the nation of Israel should continue to exist. Views of people within the country, which is currently at war and still reeling from a horrific terrorist attack, do not constitute 'Zionism'. Is 'Russia-ism' a violent bloodthirsty ideology because of the support in that country for Russia's actions in Ukraine?

Zionism is literally the belief that there should be a homeland for the Jewish people in our ancestral land of Israel. That’s not at the exclusion of other people living there too.

For religious Jews, Zionism has a meaning separate from political Zionism - it refers to our eternal longing for our return to our homeland, the coming of the messiah and to rebuild the third temple. It’s central to our belief system, we pray towards Jerusalem three times a day, and our longing to return to Zion (another name for Jerusalem) is referred to in our daily prayers and blessings over and over again, prayers said by generations of Jews, (for about 2500 years ) - since the destruction of the second temple.

Political Zionism is a secular construct. To be a religious Jew is to be inextricably a Zionist in some form, regardless of opinions on the political structures/ Israeli government/ state of Israel.

Bloody hell even Jeremy Corbyn admitted that antisemites use 'Zionist' as a code-word for Jew.

People who don't have a clue what they're talking about blundering in and telling people who do know what they're talking about that they're wrong about antisemitism, about Zionism etc etc. Try listening more than talking.

Zionism has both a political and religious meaning, neither of which are the bloodthirsty violent ideology you are making it out to be

@Scirocco I don't think it was taken down, but was pretty close to 40 pages last time I saw it so it may well be closed now. It was on AIBU, so I've been trying to kid myself that folks on this board didn't see it, but of those that did turn up from CITME, it was to goad Jews and accuse us of imagining antisemitism, as per.

Regarding this thread, I think it could be better if, rather than arguing about definitions and whether or not to condemn a proscribed terrorist organisation or to be concerned about human rights issues in the occupied territories, we listen when people say this sort of post on social media causes hurt and fear. Maybe we can also all reflect on our own language on social media, including some on this thread, and think: "would we say this to someone's face?".

@Scirocco Thank you. It's a horrendous thread - just hurts a bit because many of us regular Jewish posters were calling out and also reporting multiple Islamophobic posts on that other vile thread.

I've not been on as much as usual this week, so I don't know what thread this was, but I'm sorry people were subjected to abuse and didn't have support in challenging it.
