I see countless UK run accounts like this. Hundreds of comments just like this.

Why? It's horrendous. How can we let this be said in Britain without any consequences?

You couldn't start conversations about other communities and not end up reported to the police.

Criticising the right of the Jewish state to exact sounds quite antisemitic to me. As is calling zionists bloodthirsty and saying to want genocide. But apparently they opinion of people who have experienced decades of hearing that particular dogwhistle doesn't matter anymore.

So by believing that it was wrong to kill and displace Palestinians so that Jewish problem can have Israel is antisemitic in your opinion?

Is that right?

We’re all supposed to believe that a Jewish state is so important that it was worth all the murders and refugees and suffering that has occurred in its name since it’s creation?

This and exactly this, thank you! 🙏- we must empower moderate, thoughtful and well informed discourse. There are enough voices of division and oppression here as in other places.

That would be nice. Looking forward to moderate, thoughtful and well informed posts in the future rather than hyperbole, baiting and disinformation.

Zionism is a political standpoint so it is fair game for criticism just like any other ideology.

The fact that zionists tend to be Jewish is irrelevant. What has been done in the name of Zionism is abhorrent and deserves to be criticised. Claiming that criticism of Zionism is the same as criticising Jewish people just for being Jewish is now boring as well
as inaccurate. We all know that it’s just an excuse to try and shut people up.

Anti Semites hide their anti semitism by calling Jews ' Zios'. That IS antisemitic not anti Zionist because these anti Semites are tarring ALL Jews as Zionists. FYI many Jews are just that, not Zionist at all.

blackcherryconserve · 27/06/2024 18:30

jerkorperk · 27/06/2024 07:59

And clearly, 'Zio' is being used as a thinly veiled cover word for Jew.

It is indeed 😡

Trying to conflate Zionism with racism and homophobia is neither moderate, thoughtful nor well-informed.

SummerFeverVenice · 27/06/2024 16:02

I think you can reasonably also consider the fact that not all Zionist political parties in Israel are quite as harmless as you are portraying.

The leader of the Religious Zionist Party of Israel, Bezalel Smotrich, and the leader of the Otzmar Yehudit, Itmar Ben Givir have been noted over the years for their frequent racist and homophobic comments as well as incitements to genocide in Gaza and West Bank both before and after the Oct 7 attack by Hamas.

My post simply asked what the PPs post had to do with the thread and was deleted. But the post saying most zionists want to kill all Palestinians is fine.

And not all British political parties are harmless either. And in many other countries. None of this makes changes the definition of a word or makes it acceptable to, by implication, call for the dismantling of an entire nation.

The definition of Zionism is far more nuanced and varied depending upon which faction you research. There often isn’t the implication that comments like “send every Zio to hell” is calling for the destruction of Israel, although it can be inferred.

Usually the implication is that “Zio” is synonymous with “Jew” because it is used in the context of referring to specifically to Jewish people anywhere in the world rather than a nation state.

That is what makes it unacceptable and antisemitic imho. I don’t think it is similar to anti-American or anti-British or anti-Irish sentiment and slogans against those nations, it is more specific than towards nationality or a nation.

Didn't say there aren't any violent zionists.

True.
It is the conflation of all Zionists with the Zionist political parties that are violent and racist that makes the term “Zio” an antisemtic dog whistle and unacceptable to use in comments, on protest placards and so on. It’s a form, as noble giraffe put it, of collective demonisation.

Not all feminists believe in the equality of women, quite a few believe in the superiority of women. Feminism did have its terrorist suffragettes so at times it was happy to engage in bloodthirsty bombings to achieve its aim.

Zio is a dog whistle much like femi-nazi is a dog whistle. Both are unacceptable.

It is just incredibly disingenuous to think there are not violent Zionist entities as well as peaceful ones.

But all fundamentally believe in equality for women, even if what that looks like and how it can be achieved differs from person to person or group to group. If someone was to call feminism a bloodthirsty ideology because a few odd feminists advocate violence that would be fucking ridiculous. And possibly misogynistic if feminist was a common dog whistle term for woman.

That's an entirely separate discussion. If someone considers themselves a Zionist the only conclusion you can reasonably come to is that they support the existence of Israel. Trying to portray a Zionist as a bloody thirsty genocidal maniac is a ridiculous interpretation

What Makes Israel’s Far Right Different

The Religious Zionist Party’s rise isn’t about immigration, crime, or populist economics—it’s driven by Jewish supremacy and anti-Arab racism.

It's about once for every 20.000 people killed in Palestine, Jew & Muslim, in the last 8 months.
See where this is going? Unless we change course I'll be back in a while and post again as the death-toll ticks north of 40 thousand.

Mostly women and children.

Didn't really answer the question but okay.

Also, that article says that most Israeli Arabs think the war has gone too far. Are they not presumably zionists too?

Zionists are people who believe Jews should have a homeland

I am afraid there are as many brands of Zionism as there are of Feminism.
