Video showing Palestinian man strapped to front of jeep

Israeli army strapped wounded Palestinian to jeep

The Israeli military says the man was a suspect in a raid in the West Bank, but its forces violated protocol.

If you were in a jeep surrounded by hostiles who wanted to kill you would you
a) wait to get killed
b) tie one of the hostiles to your jeep and drive away safely

Why are you inventing a completely fictitious scenario in an attempt to justify it?
If! If my granny had.....well we know the rest

Scirocco · 29/06/2024 13:55

People shouldn't be strapping anyone to the front of a vehicle.

This man has been reported to have been known to be a civilian. He was injured and needed medical assistance, but instead had more harm inflicted upon him.

And people still try to justify it.

How do you tell a civilian from a hostile?

As I said, treated as guilty until proven innocent.

How do you tell a (Palestinian) civilian from a hostile?

You are correct that this is how the Palestinian civilians are seen, hence the high death rate even in the occupied west bank.

He was a civilian though.

But not surprising, unfortunately.

I wonder will any of the posters here who were so dismissive of this event, suggesting he was a terrorist, laughing at those of us who said that he was being used as a human shield, or even suggesting that the IDF were doing him a favour, will revise their earlier comments?

Tumbleweed...

@Mellowdramadrama agreed

Yes, however, based on the initial reports stating he was a suspected militant, a few posters called him a terrorist and said he should be grateful he wasn’t treated worse.

Yes, when it comes to the Palestinians, the MO seems to be guilty, unless proven innocent.
And also shoot first, ask questions later.

SugarandSpiceandAllThingsNaice · 28/06/2024 10:14

Mellowdramadrama · 28/06/2024 09:48

As said, he was used as a human shield. To prevent the IDF jeep from coming under fire during the altercation, they tied the wounded Palestinian man to the jeep. Palestinians have been used as human shields by the IDF for decades. It's really not a new practice, just one that people seem to gloss over.

Of course not. But they probably will say the video is Hamas propaganda or but Hamas but Hamas or justify it in some way.

And now, days later, the IDF has admitted the man, Abadi, they tied to the jeep was not a suspected militant. They knew he was a civilian caught in the crossfire from Day 1:

”The army initially said Abadi was a suspected militant, but later acknowledged he had not posed a threat to Israeli forces and was caught in crossfire with militants.”

It is an extremely scary space to live in when the army and police force are the ones to fear

Indeed. I firmly believe that the world is still firmly on the side of Israel (average person on the street opinion) but a very powerful Pro-Palestinian propaganda fight is being fought on social media and perpetuated by The Guardian and the BBC for obvious reasons.

I feel desperately sad for the innocent souls in Gaza and pray for a swift peace.

You say pro-Palestinian propaganda, what does that actually mean? Also, @keenforhelp, it’s not so obvious to me so care to explain what you mean by “perpetuated by The Guardian and the BBC for obvious reasons”? What are the obvious reasons? Because it’s not obvious to me.

People who support the plights of innocent Palestinians is not the same as propaganda. Showing a map of the WCK workers being targeted is not the same as propaganda. So I’m curious to see what you actually call propaganda?

Israel say different. They’re held for security breaches/offences. Held until a trial takes place, however long that might be whilst evidence is obtained. That’s what happens in the majority of the worlds prisons, even the UK. People are arrested, sometimes bailed, sometimes detained until trial.

What is Israel's Administrative Detention?

Sorry don't know if this has been mentioned, but this is not the case at all. Israel hold detainees under 'administrative detention', with no charges, under the supposition that they might commit a crime in the future. The rest of the world most certainly does not work like this. Detainees can be held for decades, with no charge and they might not even hear a charge until they appear in court. That charge can change numerous times, with no evidence necessary.

Mellowdramadrama · 25/06/2024 23:21

I see yougov has a six month tracker and support for Israel has actually dropped quite alot.
I personally don't feel this attitude is towards the people of Israel but due to the actions of their government.

Yougov did update and at least in the
uk that’s the case

Britons are most likely to say they sympathise more with the Palestinian side, at 29%, while 16% say they sympathise more with the Israelis. A further 23% say they sympathise with both sides equally, and 31% are not sure.

Yougov!

Pinch of salt!

That’s interesting. I feel the exact opposite.

My opinion is Israel has completely wasted the moral high ground it initially occupied.

And now the “person on the street” has woken up to the grotesque injustice Palestinians have been living under for 70-odd years.

Despite a powerful pro-Israeli propaganda machine, in terms of influence in the US via AIPAC, and similar monied lobby groups in the UK, backed up by an 80% right wing press and their owners, eg the Mail, Telegraph, Times etc.

Your wishful thinking .
