News seem to indicate a war between Israel and Hezbollah seems imminent , hopefully they’re wrong

Biden has said they’ll support Israel and several ships are on their way to support Israel

from what I’ve read , hezbollah has got more and stronger weapons than Hamas in Gaza

I can only think about how many innocent civilians are going to die because incompetent politicians and many times men.

Who's stopping you? I think Smotritch and Ben Gvir are racist fascists. So probably would lump then in with bad guys. And they're Israeli. So there you go, it's not hard.

Why the need to label good guys and bad guys? It's so childish this need to paint a complex situation as black and white.

that was from the comment I was replying to you. So , you can do it , it’s not hard. If the rest do it then it’s childish.

Betzalel Smotrich has said this morning "Crush Hezbollah.. the only options are surrender or war"
Is that what posters on here also think?

If an attack on Lebanon, such as we have seen in Gaza, meant that 40000 plus Israelis were killed, universities, schools, hospitals razed to the ground, agricultural crops destroyed and say 50% of housing stock destroyed , would the likes of Smotrich still be calling for an invasion of Lebanon?

I think he and others feel with Israel's superior firepower and defensives they don't need to negotiate and they can kill as many people as they like in Lebanon with little or no consequence to their own people or country. They can carry out atrocities like they are actioning in the West Bank and Gaza with impunity.
Is that an unfair conclusion?

Incredibly I heard someone on the JV show actually say to Frank Gardner that one big bomb should be dropped on Gaza because modern warfare is too slow.

Edited

No, it's not that they don't think there will be consequences for their country, they know full well the capabilities of Hezbollah, but in the style of all fascists, they think it is a worthy sacrifice that the population should be make for the greater good.

Soon after 7/10 Smotritch said something along the lines of how the hostages would need to be sacrificed for the greater good of ridding Gaza of Hamas.

many in the Israeli government are bad Israelis

we agree there is innocent good civilians in both sides. But if an Israeli does something wrong we should be able to say they’re a bad guy

Nobody is crying.
Hezbollah made the decision to open a support front after October 7th, knowing full well what the costs would be.

Israel and Lebanon have had border skirmishes for over 40 years.

There is (or was) an understanding on threat escalation:
A civilian for a civilian, a building for a building, a soldier for a soldier etc.
Since October Israel has fired 4 times the rockets and killed far more Lebanese.

The additional 1000+ dead Lebanese in the past week means that that escalation ladder has been broken.

There was no such understanding. Absoltuely not. Nasrallah may have wished there to be such an understanding but Israel never signed up to it. Israel signed up to Hezbollah disarming and moving north of the Litani if they withdrew. That's what they signed up for. Israel has always said, for the last 80 years, if you hit us, we hit back harder.

The fact that you call it a "support front" is so telling. What you mean to say is they attacked Israel. And they knew full well what the costs to the Lebanese would be but they didn't think that they should ask them if they wanted a war with Israel.

The "escalation ladder" was broken on October 8th by HEzbollah.

No, that’s exactly what they’re doing, while the rest of the world bleats away in the background.

Shocking and to feel embolden enough to say it live on air, really disturbing. How was he dealt with?

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's office says Israel is fighting with "full force" and has not responded to a call for ceasefire.
Now, Israel Katz, the country's foreign minister, says "there will be no ceasefire in the north".
Israel "will continue to fight against the terrorist organisation Hezbollah with all our might until victory and the safe return of the residents of the north to their homes," Katz adds on a statement on X.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has told Israel's military to keep fighting with "full force" and has not responded to last night's ceasefire call, his office says.
In response to the ceasefire proposal put forward by 12 international allies, Netanyahu's office says:
"The news about a ceasefire - not true. This is an American-French proposal, to which the prime minister did not even respond. The news about the supposed directive to moderate the fighting in the north is also the opposite of the truth.
"The prime minister instructed the IDF to continue the fighting with full force, and according to the plans presented to him. Also, the fighting in Gaza will continue until all the goals of the war are achieved."

Chilling. Netanyahu seems to be making it clear that he wants another Gaza situation. He's flicked the Vs at USA, so they need to cut off the supplies they've been giving him (they won't though). I think he's relying on Iran eventually getting directly involved so that he can suck the USA,UK and other Countries into a massive war.

He's the same as Putin in my mind, a narccistic maniac.

How stupid to support another terrorist organisation then knowing the result would be counter attack and loss of innocents. What good are hezbollah to the Lebanese. I can see why the Lebanese people are so angry being stuck with a terrorist organisation constantly putting them in danger.

There is a better way. Accept Israel as a state, as many others in the middle east have done. Stop terrorist attacks. No one would support the continuing conflict if terrorists laid down armband stopped attacks. Someone has to make the first move to peace. Israel accepts Gaza as a state and both stop attacks.

It's quite ridiculous really.

Bizarre.

Since hezbollah lobbed it's missiles after Oct 7th in support of Hamas therefore hezbollah are aggressors.

Its a bit silly to keep firing rockets at your neighbour then cry when then fire back. 🙄

You're right I misread.
So @EasterIssland pls do give me the middle eastern example of a thriving democracy you're thinking of? Or will Gaza be a first in the Arab world?

Sadly there is no model for this.

It would be a first. If hamas were gone then the people could rebuild and wouldn't it be great if a great democracy with no terrorist running the country. It feels unattainable though. Hamas will not go, neither will hezbollah. Both will keep their people down whilst they pursue their aims of eradication of Israel.

Apart from the unprovoked daily barrage of missiles fired at civilians in northen Israel for almost a year. It would have been even better to have had de-escalation in the northern border on October 8 after the first Hezbollah attacks.

Yep.
Some consistently miss this important detail.

Why the need to label good guys and bad guys? It's so childish this need to paint a complex situation as black and white.
Israelis are not "the bad guys" and neither are Palestinians. Neitehr are they the good guys either. They are people. The tragedy is that it's not bad versus good but just causes vs just causes. Or rather injustice vs injustice (to paraphrase Amos Oz)

Most Israelis do not support Smotrich. He's the most extreme element of Israeli society. Yes, it's shameful he's in government but all the Israelis I know (and I know many) think he's disgusting, even people who are to the right of the political spectrum.

I always find it funny how the classic divide and rule tactics popularised by the British Empire are still popular today.

The obsession by mostly non Muslim governments, think tanks and their supporters with sowing discord between Sunni and Shia Muslims is amazing to watch.

I wonder where the IDF falls on this spectrum seeing as it treated Al Nusra (Salafist Jihadi) terrorists during the Syrian War?

Let's not make Hamas and Hezbollah the good guys here please.....

Hamas was actually financed and supported by Israel when it served Israel’s purpose to put a wedge between the Palestinian Authority in the West Bank and Hamas in Gaza. Hezbollah was formed after the 1982 invasion of Lebanon by Israel, when it wanted to destroy the PLO as a political force and reclaim the West Bank. Israel are not the good guys in this either, and their past and continuing actions have inevitable consequences.Ultimately Israel wants the territories of Gaza and the West Bank ‘back’ (not the people, who are an inconvenience).

Totally. Let's not forget what happened the last time Lebanon was invaded.
