Conflict in the Middle East

I never said that supporting Palestinians is supporting Hamas please stop claiming otherwise.

There have mean multiple links on these boards to twitter accounts that are unashamedly pro-Hamas. The posts linked to might not themselves be pro-Hamas, but when you scroll a little you get posts praising thr October 7th attacks. So if people are going to complain about the DM not being a good source, I'd argue that pro-terrorist twitter is an even worse one.

I see your point- but even if these accounts are pro-Hamas - does not necessarily mean the photos originate from the accounts? There’s a lot of sharing of photos that originate from other sources. For example, people reposting photos of support for Palestinians around the world or photos from within Gaza.

Photos are also primary sources, and not a biased interpretation of events like a commentary piece in the DM.

Interesting that we are here comparing the DM with individual SM accounts. Shows the power of the former. This is also why the Israeli government is loosing the propaganda war- due entirely to its own actions. The victor no longer gets to write history.

I am very sorry to hear that @Humdingerydoo I absolutely believe what you tell me of your own feelings.

@Humdingerydoo how much clearer than this does it have to be?
Again you are making assumptions about posters and their thoughts.

Parkingt111 · 05/06/2024 22:47

@Humdingerydoo who is 'you guys' this isn't about us and them.
You don't know what I think about the marches, you just constantly make alot of assumptions about what posters are thinking.

stormy4319trevor · 05/06/2024 22:47

Sorry @TakeMe2Insanity I wanted to respond to @Humdingerydoo , who I am actually quite fond of, though I'm sure I'm a masssive irritation to them. But I didn't mean to derail and will not engage further. Thank you @Parkingt111 You always understand things and express them clearly.

Humdingerydoo · 05/06/2024 22:46

Parkingt111 · 05/06/2024 22:42

@Humdingerydoo are you even reading what stormy is saying?
It's clear from their posts that they are not denying that there are British Jews who feel unsafe due to the matches but they disagree that the marches taking place in Britain have a similar comparison to the Jerusalem march that took place today.

Yes, I saw their "I believe that you believe" bit. You guys are the ones not reading what I'm saying. Or listening to what Jews have been saying for 8 months.

It's clear that you guys will not accept that the only reason Jews aren't harmed on a weekly basis is because we stay away. We don't go where we will be at risk. A lot of people also don't go anywhere near the marches because they keep Shabbat and live far away, so they're also safe. We are safe because we (mostly) stay away, not because the marchers are peaceful.

Parkingt111 · 05/06/2024 22:45

@keenforhelp I am sure the Palestinians are terrified near Jerusalem today.

But Jewish people are scared on a daily basis.

Again do you think the Palestinians are having a fun picnic the rest of the days? 500 Palestinians have been killed in the occupied west bank alone since October 7th so if there's anyone who is minimising anything right now, it is you.

TakeMe2Insanity · 05/06/2024 22:44

And suddenly the thread about a right wing march led by a fanatic in Jerusalem is about how people in London feel! Wow.

keenforhelp · 05/06/2024 22:40

@stormy4319trevor - Jewish people in London feel TERRRIFIED ever Saturday in the UK and it's not one march there have been hundreds - not just in London but all over the UK. Suburbs and cities. Flares, masks, jihadist chants,anti-Semitic placards and chants.

EVERY WEEK.

Get it?

Not ONE march.

Hundreds.

Plus graffiti, death threats, stoning.

You don't get to minimise this, do you hear? Because this is what you are doing.

I am sure the Palestinians are terrified near Jerusalem today.

But Jewish people are scared on a daily basis.

And don't start on whataboutery...about Gaza.

This is about Jewish people and their fear in the UK.

Written in single lines to hope the message gets through and hopefully without whataboutery.

@Humdingerydoo You can make any judgements you like. That doesn't mean others should agree with them or think you are right. Personally I do not believe you can judge the fear of two different groups of people and tell me they are the same. Especially as you don't know most of them. I don't claim to know the feelings of all people anywhere, myself. I'm done with this, though. I think it's not the point of the thread.

Ok well as a Jew in London, I can assure you it's absolutely terrifying. Not that you seem to believe anything I say, but I guess there's been a long-running theme of that on this thread of people not believing what Jews are telling them.

Also not sure why you're accusing me of being dishonest.

Humdingerydoo · 05/06/2024 22:24

stormy4319trevor · 05/06/2024 22:21

@Humdingerydoo You have no way of knowing the level of fear of Palestinians in Jerusalem, therefore you can not judge it equal to the fear of Jewish people in London. You simply don't have the information. I have no idea if your statement is true or not, and if you are honest, nor do you.

There is literally no one in the world who will know how a Palestinian in Jerusalem and a Jew in London feels. No one. Not a single person. Yet you feel like you can make the judgement? Based on what? But I can't make that judgement? Why?

stormy4319trevor · 05/06/2024 22:03

@Humdingerydoo I said that Christians and Muslims in Jerusalem must be absolutely terrified, and you said they would be as terrified as Jewish people in London are by marches for a ceasefire. I have no idea if this is true, and I suppose you are speaking of Jewish people you know and have some way to measure their fear against the non-Jewish population in Jerusalem today. And you judge it equal.

I am not a person who marches, but I'm aware that:
a)They do not carry guns
b) They are not illegally occupying the UK
c) Jewish people in the UK do not live under occupation and have the full rights of citizens. This would include not having their children removed in the dead of night. Their position in the UK is reasonably protected by civil and human rights. This is not the case for Palestinians living under occupation.
d) Jewish people are not being evicted from their homes and replaced by pro-Palestinian marchers.

I'm sure there are other differences between pro-Palestinian marchers and Israeli settlers, but there's little point continuing. It seems obvious to me that the potential threat to Palestinians in Jerusalem is much greater, but I believe you believe that Jewish people are as terrified as those in Jerusalem.. They have every right to feel that way if they do. And?

Right, so you can only compare two things if they're exactly identical? What would then be the point in comparing? Seems like a highly flawed argument to be honest. But you keep at it if you so wish.

And for people who said no one is denying that Jews are scared because of the weekly protests, maybe look at the post I'm responding to. "I believe that you believe" ie it's not actually real.

Not sure I have seen any posts providing support for Hamas- they should be reported.

You may think supporting Palestinians is indirect support for Hamas, but surely that’s like saying wanting hostages to be released is support for Netanyahu’s right wing government. They are 2 different things.

Showing devastation IDF has inflicted in Gaza does play into Hamas’s hands- but that shouldn’t stop the posting of the photos. It means that the IDF and Netanyahu’s government should not have flattened Gaza.

Apologies @Humdingerydoo it is actually @keenforhelp who feels that your original statement was wrong. Perhaps she would like to report your post and have that deleted too?

@TakeMe2Insanity What???

What @Humdingerydoo said was perfectly fine and correct. You did not directly quote him/her as it would not have been deleted otherwise. Was his/her original statement deleted?

No.

I am not going to repeat what you wrote as your comment was deleted.

Take it up with MN - stop trying umpteen times to quote me and tag me.

Being aware of bias is important. Also differentiating between pro- Hamas and pro-Palestinian.
I find photos speak a thousand words. Difficult to misinterpret photos coming out of Gaza.
If IDF would stop killing journalists and let in independent ones, we wouldn’t only need to rely on Gazans posting.
Photos from 7/10 also tell a horrific story.

The poster has conflated a national day with ALL Jews. It is anti-Semitic to say this as it suggests ALL Jews and not the Israelis here.

@Humdingerydoo re this

I'm not sure what you want me to do or say? I obviously can't tell you what someone else meant. We're different people.

And with regards to your Lebanon post - Hezbollah started firing at Israel from Lebanon on October 8th. You surely must have already been aware of that? It's been constant ever since.

I'd be happy to have him locked up though, he's not exactly my favourite person in the world.

TakeMe2Insanity · 05/06/2024 21:10

I note Ben Gvir has added icing to his parade cake by suggesting the war in Gaza (aka collective punishment) extend to Lebanon. Can someone not lock him up?
