"Brilliant moment pro-Israel protesters get their own back on pro-Palestine mob"

Pro-Israel supporters have taken to the streets after a cinema was vandalised with graffiti for planning to show a film about the Nova festival massacre at the hands of Hamas terrorists.

Pro-Palestine activists sprayed the Phoenix Cinema in East Finchley, London, with the message "say no to artwashing". In response, members of the Jewish community and campaigners against anti-Semitism are holding a demonstration outside the picturehouse.
Music could be heard blaring, including Elton John's I'm Still Standing, as smiling pro-Israel supporters waved the Israeli flag in a show of defiance.
A tiny band of pro-Palestine protesters are on the scene, however they are vastly outnumbered.

The volunteer, who wished to remain anonymous, told The Telegraph: “It’s just an outrage. People who are survivors of this massacre are coming here and they could have been confronted with red graffiti that honestly looked like blood.
“One of the people here knows someone who survived the massacre and she was coming tonight. Imagine the trauma if she saw this. People from the community have gone together to clean it up.
“It claimed that the film was artwashing - but it’s not. It’s footage from the festival. It shows what happened. There’s no agenda.

Interesting figures...

Yes, very interesting results from the polls and the support amongst civilians in Gaza and West Bank for Hamas has been remarkably high.

There's also a high level of denialism from them that Hamas committed atrocities on 7th October 2023. IIRC, most of them haven't seen the footage Hamas took.

See below contrasting December 2023 attitudes with those in March 2024. Barely any over change in attitudes.

Indeed, it is perfectly legit for Palestinians combatants to fight security forces of Israel.

This in itself is not a warcrime.

SO when you hear the label "terrorist" know it is largely untrue when applied to such activity.

Except Hamas constantly and consistently violate IHL on various counts including hostage taking, targeting civilians, using civilians as human shields aka human sacrifice, abusing pritectedprotected status of hospitals which makes them a legitimate military targeting, perfidy and so on.

It IS true to say that Hamas is a terrorist organisation and NOT a "national liberation resistance" group as you attempt to claim. 🤦‍♂️

I, for one, am glad that the French resistance and other resistance groups in Europe used armed methods to fight the occupation forces. I don't think sit ins would have worked against the SS. I wonder what my great aunt, who was a resistant, was tortured and survived Auschwitz, would have made of your analysis.

Yes, I can’t imagine anyone has an issue with resistance groups using armed methods to fight occupation forces.

It’s the raping, torturing, mutilating and murdering children, women and the elderly that people have an issue with.

That certainly wasn’t happening in Europe amongst the resistance groups.

IDF does a fair amount of that too. In fact, there is a much greater quantum of rape victims by the IDF and not many prosecutions. Not too mention our own British girls who have been gang raped by Israelis in Cyprus.

For the record, it is legal for the any Palestinian force to attack IDF forces which occupy the West Bank and maintain a blockade on Gaza.

Did you mean to ask whether Hamas has a right to fight the IDF now, or prior to 7 October? Because Gaza hadn’t been occupied since 2005.

However, if Hamas had limited 7 October to IDF targets, and kept their penises to themselves whilst doing so, I can’t imagine there would have been such a response.

Hamas don’t really seem to want to fight the IDF, though. It would seem that they much prefer to mutilate babies and rape elderly women.

Edited

Yup Hamas would not dare take on a defence force - they are content with using their own people as shields and killing and raping innocents following an invasion.

The IDF is, for now, the occupation forces in Gaza. Does that mean Hamas has the right to fight them in Gaza?

Has everyone watched the film?
It is important to watch it, I think, in the context of posting in this thread.

So, Hamas is solely responsible for their members complying with IHL. And for their failure to do so.
Of course they are as much as the Israeli government is for the IDF.
Finally, resistance doesn't have to take the path of using weapons which is often a counterproductive way to achieve a particular goal. Other non-violent methods are available and can often work better in the long run.

Who is going to manage the security problem of Israel in Gaza then? And take over the Israeli mismanagement of the security threat that is caused by Hamas?

Probably nobody, not at least until all the fighting stops.

@tienne,@ConnieCounter@Scirocco since all of you have piled in on this - here is the image that shows that behoove is not the acceptable way to spell in the UK.
It is behove.

It makes it clear that the UK spelling is behove.

We don't write color, favorite, etc so this is the same.

So no, both spellings are not correct - only behove is.
Accuracy is important.

Edited

It's not a pile on. It's correcting someone for mocking another poster when they erroneously assumed they had spelt something wrong.

Scirocco · 01/06/2024 13:31

Both spellings are acceptable in the UK. Behove is more widely used, but behoove is fine too.

I'd also suggest that whatever spelling option someone chooses shouldn't lead to them being mocked for it.

In the post you quoted, there's a survey showing some interesting levels of support for Netanyahu. What are your thoughts on that? Previously, people have been insisting that Netanyahu and his approach to the war on Gaza has been unpopular and only a small number of people actually support him. However, this, plus the recent survey where 50% of respondents looked to be in favour of Israeli control over Gaza, paints a different picture...

keenforhelp · 01/06/2024 13:16

Scirocco · 31/05/2024 11:39

Behoove and behove are both accepted spellings in the UK.

And a little over 1 in 3 people responding to this survey said they would back Netanyahu over his main potential electoral rivals.

My apologies I thought you were saying the civilians deaths were low because 300 were soldiers. I am more than willing to apologise when wrong.

Thank you @Mummy2024

No, 300 soldiers out of 1200 killed altogether meant the far greater majority were civilians ( and as we know women, children, old men, festival goers, and many pro - peace people among them too.) Appalling slaughter.

ScrollingLeaves · 31/05/2024 19:16

@Mummy2024

You had written:
^The thousand people they killed were not IDF soldiers though. Some of them were kids, people were dragged from their homes. It’s terrorism plain and simple.*

The statistics about soldiers to civilians I quoted were to prove your point.

I had also quoted a known Palestinian (referred to in an article by an Israeli in an Israeli newspaper Haaretz) as saying about what Hamas had done,
"I, as a Palestinian, say to you in a loud voice: It is a disgrace. I am ashamed that they murdered and abducted people – children, women, old people. I am ashamed. That is not heroism. Absolutely not heroism."

Mummy2024 · 31/05/2024 19:15

ScrollingLeaves · 31/05/2024 19:08

I was not talking down the crime. My intention was the opposite. They killed many, many more civilians than soldiers. That’s what the statistics I quoted were showing.

Talking down the crime with numbers doesn't make it any better. Taking 1 innocent life is terrorism. They attacked a festival, they knew full well innocent people were going to die.

They are terrorists no excuses, and excusing the behaviour really doesn't help the palatinian cause if I'm honest. For me I'm with those woman and kids getting killed for someone else's crime but that doesn't come hand In hand with supporting terrorism. The two arnt mutually exclusive. You can do one without the other, if you choose to....

Mummy2024 · 31/05/2024 18:54

And when he says "some hamas fighters wanted their release" what he meant by that was those of them with a scrap of humanity left in them. They didn't get released so clearly the ones with none left won that argument. They killed kids, actual kids can you imagine the depravity required to look a child in the eye and kill them? I can't imagine stooping that low to be honest, even if that is what my enemy was doing to mine. Those children are completely innocent 100% innocent and should still be here.

The killing only ends when the most depraved of people want it to or when those with humanity demand it! We should not support this conflict. We should not support the leaders of either side.

The proportion of soldiers to civilians murdered by Hamas was relatively low.

Of the 1200 killed by Hamas on Oct 7
there were 318 service members:

*The most recent death toll from the military had 318 service members killed during the attack itself (37 more have been killed since the IDF launched its ground offensive in Gaza), with police citing another 59 dead. Such figures include armed fighters who tackled the terrorists head-on, but also unarmed service members in non-combat roles who were killed inside their bases, sometimes in their beds.^
https://www.timesofisrael.com/israel-revises-death-toll-from-oct-7-hamas-assault-dropping-it-from-1400-to-1200/

The number of soldiers as opposed to civilians taken captive by Hamas Oct 7 seems more difficult to find. Perhaps someone else knows.

I don’t know. Did the IDF consider them to be soldiers?
